To all you supposed avid cyclists that are criticizing Elis Ligtlee for her weight, you don't understand the physiological demand of track cycling sprinters, which are different from most other forms of competitive cycling. It is a power sport, not power to weight. She isn't a very fast runner, sure, but in her area of expertise, she is a champion, and so much faster than her road cycling counterparts in a flat 500m. Don't make the mistake of equating fitness with a specific body type, and don't be an insecure shaming prick just because she is heavier than a road cyclist.

Right and these are two women... top discus, shot-put and Javelin throwers, top Decathletes and Daphne Schippers aren't "lean". Athletes' bodies are a 'Form meets Function' equation and clearly her body/Form is perfect for what she does/Function.

For sure the long distance runner would win. I mean, if you put a 100/200mt sprinter vs a 10k or half-marathon, the long distance will still be fast in sprinting but the sprinter won't be fast at 10k. It is a much different effort than this comparison that's based on power, not power and endurance.

Some of you people out here need to get off your high horse before you continue to bash the abilities and figures of these two athletes. It’s not fair to criticize the other for not performing as well as a seasoned athlete in a discipline THEY AREN’T FAMILIAR WITH. Secondly, just because the cyclist has more body weight doesn’t mean she’s not as “fit” as the runner or athletes in general. The bodily characteristics that are found in different disciplines vary greatly, the societal standard of “thin=better athlete” is absurd. Let’s appreciate that these two women were kind enough to take the time to make this video, because I personally enjoy this series. Hopefully more people start to think before criticizing these two hard-working athletes. Much love❤️

@ I reckon the issue is simply that she isn't driving hard enough with her legs, ie she needs to run faster. When you run fast actually pulling the ground under you with your feet, even in normal shoes, you end up very much on your forefoot. The cyclist is both going really slow and has terrible technique / posture. She should be standing more upright, and her trailing femur should be going way beyond being in line with her torso. She barely even manages to extend her hip. She is more like doing a burglars tip toe. Like if she was trying to run without making a sound.

With track being the only sporting event I still watch, it was interesting watching the athletes learn techniques to help them excel in other sports and learn how challenging it was until they received guidance. I'm just an amateur at these sport, but I do know some techniques on being fast at running (e.g. breathing patterns, arm swing length, foot position, "drafting" behind another runner for long runs, etc.)

Track cyclist will not transfer well to sprinting due to that they are too big on the bottom. Track cyclist tend to have thighs around 60 cm in circumstance for the sprinters.
Plus during my track cycling days, I would have a 250m that is around 14 seconds with a steel track bike.

The video is nice but I'd like to see them to get a bit more used to both disciplines. The cyclist that's running still has poor technique (arms' movement is still bad and she's still hitting the ground with his whole foot and not with his forefoot. On the other side, the runner that's cycling is clearly limited by her fear to fall. Even with a far from perfect technique I am sure that she can be much faster than that.
