I don’t know how you get so many ants. There is an ortho product that you can spray around the foundation of the house and around doors and windows to help keep bugs out. I think it’s ortho defense. You should try it so you don’t have to freak out at ants. Btw, they won’t hurt you. lol 😂
My husband puts it around the house but I have no idea why they come in so easily. I think the EFN's were dripping onto the floor so they sensed the sugar scent possibly? haha
@@plantsbymelissa Aside from Ortho get a exterminator to find the ant hill/base outside where they are coming in from and they can completely get rid of it.
Uuugh I’m sad watching this…..I got so tired of my pink princess I threw her away. It had beautiful marble variagation but I got so tired of the stuck leaves etc. I also have those pots and they’re are way to shallow I agree
I found some green stakes that are three feet long. Plastic coated metal. Sturdy. I’m ordering some from Amazon. The biggest acrylic I could find was the 16 inches. I suspect they grow less sturdy if they were taller.
My Hoya heuschki(whatever) grows like a freaking WEED. I’ve propped it a few times and it has filled out like crazy! In just 1 year! Also…my linearis has done insanely well since putting it in pon! (Even a peduncle!!!)
Ugh, I chopped my Aurea monstera about 9 months ago, and I had a panic because I couldn’t find the ax bud either 😂 I eventually used a scalpel to very carefully carve away at the place where the petiole comes off of the stem, and the bud was buried fairly deeply behind it. It still hasn’t grown a new leaf, but the bud is activated and sloooowly growing lol. Wild how long it’s taken 🥲
I got the same hoya hushkeliana from green escape a little before you did and mine is a super slow grower as well! Like maybe has only grown 5 leaves. I think maybe it’s just the specimen because other growers say they grow fast???
My hoya heuschkeliana from the green escape took soooooo many months to grow. It’s just now put out some new leaves. I guess it’s a slow grower. It’s very pretty. I think I’m gonna put my hoya new guinea ghost in pon. Mine is so thirsty 🤷🏻♂️
Melissa has a really really nice system. Why wouldn’t you put it back in a pretty planter instead of putting it back into a plastic pot? I am new with this so thank you for helping out.
The ppp is the same with me. I root it ,put it in soil and it rots evey time. I finally got smart enough to put into pon this time and its finally growing. Now i just need to stop trying to help the leaves. Because eveytime i do i break it. Thats a bitch plant . I got that for my daughter, if it wasn't for that i would have tossed it a long time ago
These are all the chores I need to do too! I feel philos are so difficult to get on a pole, they poke out in all the wrong directions. Do you use pon and moss poles together?
I purchased my Heurschkeliana Variegata from The Green Escape in July of 23. It’s was a small 3 leaf plug. It has grown very little. Even smaller than yours.
Love to see your Hoyas! What kind of chunky pearlite do you use? I've bought 2 kinds from Amazon and it's really small. I thought I was buying large chunks.
I used to buy the Mother Earth brand perlite. They have grades 3 & 4 and it's pretty coarse. For the prop mix it's a fine perlite though. For my aroid mix I just use pumice now and not perlite. It's roughly 3/8" to 1/2" in size.
Definitely give it a go. Some people sell small amounts if you only want to try it out. The bigger bags can get kinda expensive. I use the Fernwood New Zealand tree fern.

All my Hoya that I had in Pon responded immediately well with growth, but the overall long-term the roots eventually died so I am in the process of transferring all of my Hoya back to soil.
aw no sorry to hear that 🥲 I'm curious how the ones I have in pon will do long term then. I would say they have only been in it for maybe 2-3 months now. For some reason I feel like they like soil lol
@@plantsbymelissa I have one that I don’t have a reservoir and I just water through when the pon is dry and that seems to do really well. I keep waiting for videos to pop up of other people with their Hoya in Pon and if anyone else is having trouble.
Last time I got that terrible smell my Colocassia was in water with gravel in it. Basically it suffocated the roots and sadly there was no recovery for it. I hope your PP is going to be okay. Sending prayers for your safety with the upcoming hurricane.
Thank you Sherri! Sorry about the colocasia 🥲 we’re in a tropical storm warning right now here in Savannah but expecting a lot of rain and possible tornado warnings later today and through tomorrow as it moves north.

Thank you so much! 💕 I'm always running low with my DIY pon since I sell it so I'm trying to save it for the shop. I sell 5 pounds now so it uses a lot of it. Some weeks I sell more so then I have to buy more and there's a period where I'm out of stock for a bit until my new supply comes in so I'm trying to be better about that. I bought a couple bags of lechuza a few months ago so I might as well use them up :D
It depends! For hoyas specifically for the shop they root up so well in the tree fern and perlite mix and then they are already in their shipping media.
There’s another UA-camr who just did an experiment with cutting green sticks at different points and see which ones grew faster. What he found if you cut an equidistant between two nodes that’s the one that grew fastest by weeks. The ones with stem in front or or behind the node were exceedingly slow to grow.
