One of my break-throughs to avoid plant clutter: I stopped watching certain plant content creators. By reducing the “hauls” and such, I didn’t have the urge to go out and buy. I started watching people who showed their plants growing, which inspired me to appreciate the plants I already have. Figured I’d post here since people here are most likely also in-deep like me!
I find it soo difficult to get rid of plants. However, I have noticed that when I do get rid of one, I never miss it after having done so. I never regret it. And yet I always tend to hold onto plants much longer than I need to, hehe.
I keep most of my plants outside in the summer and declutter them every fall simply by bringing them in starting with my favorite, then my second favorite, etc. When all the available space inside is taken, I call a couple of plant friends to pick over what's left, then put any leftovers on the compost pile.
I’m decluttering like crazy!! I got rid of 100+ plants, duplicates, ones that don’t bring joy, and I finally feel like I can breath again with my collection.
Very helpful tips. While downsizing my collection, my epiphany was to stop trying to grow plants that don't fit in the environment I have in my home. I now only have plants that will thrive in the environment I have...voila! Stress gone!
I recently got rid of plants I didn’t care for as much due to space issues. Sad and freeing at the same time. They just weren’t aesthetically pleasing all crowded together and I needed to reclaim my space. Now I have like 25 maybe of larger or medium size plants
I downsized from 200 to 100 plants and it is great! My friends got new plants and i got some space and time back. The main reason was that i adopted 2 kittens and their mommy and i knew that it will be a struggle to keep them away. After a few weeks, they got used to them but i think i will try to stay around 100 , i am stressing less about plant chores 😅
I’ve moved all my plants in our living room that we never used. It’s now the most beautiful spot in the house because of my plants and the beautiful grow lights from Soltech and my husbands beautiful tables he created for me. Love that room now. This video is awesome great tips!
I am currently going through this. I downsized already in the last 2 years and next week I will probably sell many more. I still will have plants but more for the interior of my apartment instead of a huge collection. I started to get new hobbies, go out more and I cant manage to find the time to care for them for hours and I dont want to anymore if I am honest.
I've given a load of my plants away to friends and sold some. I've got rid of 13 out of 54. I chopped a hoya that had loads of mealy bugs and loved the space that was there.
My problem is plants that prop too easily, and then I end up with multiples, but have no space for them and nobody else wants them. I know I should toss them, but I have a hard time tossing something that's trying its best to just live.
I commiserate! This season, I made a concerted effort to sell off select plants from my Jade collection, gifted several specimens, and tossed duplicates that I couldn't sell or give away. I also hard-pruned many of my largest plants, namely the potted citrus that have to be overwintered indoors. Feels good going into Autumn, knowing that I will have window-space for all my best plants, and room to fit everything else into the greenhouse.
Me: * Having just thrown away two sick spider mite magnets and watching this video * sings "mama said that it way okay, mamma said that it was quite alright"😂
My current problem is, selling plants (eBay and Facebook) has become very difficult where I live (big city) even though I am pricing things quite low. I think most people here have grown out of the “hype” or have become lazy to go an extra 10-15min away from the city center or whatever. Until last year, plants were sold quite quickly. It’s not only me either: we have a Facebook group and the posts mostly go without offer.
I have gotten rid of plants this fall. Kept some in moss nearly all summer to help them regrow roots and they had done hardly anything so out they went. I had to get rid of some succulents that consistently had powdery mildew and no matter what i did it came back. Well i wasn't going to let them infect my others.
People when they get started want to collect them all and soon find out they no longer have space, can’t figure out the care, don’t have enough time, the amount of maintenance, pest management, and not growing like others. People won’t have the experience to care for their plants which leads to the plants dying, getting pest, or isn’t even worth the money. That’s why I don’t buy because it’s rare or expensive but if I like it and know how to care for it properly. So many times have I seen people on PS buying plants without knowing what they are or being beginners. Or simply collecting all color forms of the same plant.
Yes! Normalize throwing away plants! There is one in my garbage now. I’d also like to normalize not getting down on yourself if you kill a plant. We’ve all done it!
I didn’t expect to like this video cause I’m personally offended by being told to throw things away that don’t ✨sPaRk JoY✨ in the moment lol. But these methods are spot on! 👏 So realistic and like… human! I feel seen 😌❤️
Kaylee.... a very quick question. I'm new to the plant parent world and I'm slowly easing myself in and thoroughly enjoying it! I'm on the verge of buying a young established Monstera which I'm stoked for. I noticed that you don't have regular moss poles on yours.... are they coconut poles? Personally I think regular plastic moss poles look a bit poop, and your home setup looks way slicker. Are the coconut poles okay for aerial roots? Should I consider something else for it to climb up? Any input would be greatly valued.
Try giving them away to friends and family or selling 🙂 I can't throw plants away either unless they're dead, but recently I decluttered by just gifting the plants I'm not so crazy about to a couple of friends and my mom and it helped a lot!
I’ve not been here in a year (having kids stay at home mom now) I’m honestly baffled. I feel like there is literally no comments, small following, I went to the rareplantshop to get some fertilizer cuz I thought for sure in the US by now, everything is sold out and no, no fert. What have I missed? Rare plants are just out of trend?
I came across one of your videos from 2 years ago and I heard the F swear word twice, was that realy necceserry, am I expected to listen to that kind of language on other videos?
Glad to see another person who cares about civil language. Cussing is an epidemic nowadays. She is not the worst example, but yes, she needs to understand people notice and it's completely unnecessary. And still uncouth.

One of my favorites for this is HakunaLaPlanta :)

Great tips! For me, it was uninstalling Palmstreet :)
Great video. You showed me a different way to look at it than some other creators have who talked about the same topic.
These are actually solid tips that you don't find anywhere else

I am terrible for wanting them all but starting to find what I like most and edit my collection
another softer Kayle Ellen video, love them
Hey. Could you make a video/ collection of short videos on how to effectively use the nurture system range. Would find this super helpful. Thanks
I commiserate!

Thanks. I needed this from nz

Thank you! We need to hear this more...now I really need to get rid of some plants! 🤣
How did you know I needed this video 😂

Or they want them free or next to free

Omg I love the rib cage trellis! Anyone know where I can buy one??
My reduction in plant species ended up with increase in propagations. It's Crassula ovata house now.
Sadly, this is exactly the video I needed right now! 😂

I really needed to hear all of that. Thanks you so much!
This was very helpful, thank you!
Perfect timing! And solid advice, like for real practical suggestion, thx you!
Great tips! Lovely plants.
Thank you so much ❤

I can never throw away a plant

Ooooh wow, please….what‘s plant is on 4:04 in front of your head (green/white)…anthurium?.. this is so adorable❤
Me: “no I don’t want to downsize and declutter!”
Also me after accidentally domino-ing 6 plants at once: “UGH WHY AM I LIKE THIS?!” 😠🤣
I've binned a plant a hoya I'd had fir yrs and it was infested with mealy bugs (it infected other plants to)
Great tips 👍😀🇨🇦

🎉🎉🎉🎉 I throw them away no problem.
Sorry to be picky but that wasnt a monstera deliciosa its a monstera borsigiana
Im a horrible person who is uncomftable among other woman.(Im a straight woman)Somehow I like you more when you came out. I feel so stupid
I cannot throw them out, they are living beings 😢
Do I feel shop closing down? This brexit had to hit you hard ;/
I've been wondering that too. Maybe focusing more on the plant care side instead of plants
