You did an amazing job capturing the beauty of my city!! Seeing it through the lens of a tourist has a way of bringing out things that I’ve taken for granted. Can’t wait for the Banff video to drop!
@@cdceltic9391just like every city, there are ugly spots, but you can't deny the beautiful spots are pretty freaking gorgeous. Go to a park. There are so many great ones: Prince's Island in the fall, north or south Glenmore parks, confederation, etc. Fish creek park and nose hill park are each among the largest natural parks in a major city
Visited Calgary late july these year and had an amazing visit, i was surprised how cheap it was compared to the other cities in Canada, in first hand i came to Calgary cause it was nearest place to get to Banff but giving the city 3 days i can't say that i regret, friendly people, good resturants and very safe, anyone who gets to Canada first time i highly recommend visit Calgary, special stephen collin avenue. Greetings from Sweden😃🤩💙
omg, what a beautifully produced and edited video. Also, so relaxing... from your tone of voice to the delicate soundtrack in the background. Never for a moment I felt the urge of fast-forwarding the video. It was quite the contrary: I was laid down here just enjoying the trip as if I was there with you. I didn’t know you and actually just stumbled across this video and I’m really glad I did it. Nice job! Thank you. Greetings from Brazil. :)
If you ever come back, I highly recommend coming in June/July when we actually have some foliage. Great showcase, but Calgary does look particularly barren that time of year (late winter/early spring).
wow, it really is something to see someone else experience the city you live in. As someone who has grown up in Calgary all my life, I feel I've lost my love and appreciation for the city. It's so nice to see it from an outside perspective and from your eyes. Your vlog is beautifully filmed and kept me intereged, I even learned a few things. I hope you enjoyed your stay, I cant wait for the Banff video!
Next time you go to calgary, I suggest going to Calaway park and maybe heritage park! They're pretty cool and Heritage park was my childhood. And Peter's was always a treat my parents would get us as we drove by, Black licorice being my favourite milkshake along with the onion rings.
Highly recommend: -Calgary Stampede (July) -Heritage park -Calaway Park -Calgary tower (If it's open, it's been closed a lot so I would check online first) -Winsport (Winter) -Prince's island park -Devonian Gardens -St. Patrick's Island and Eau Claire
It’s kind of comforting seeing someone look through Calgary other than myself and my family/relatives, and all the familiar places you went to as a newcomer XD
Really enjoyed the video. I've lived in the Calgary area for most of my life. It's funny to acknowledge how quiet our downtown is compared to most cities. But from my experience most people tend to live outside the city. With so many parks, trails, and campgrounds it's kinda hard not to shy away from the city.
I love watching your videos. I was born and raised here in Calgary I'm now turning 30 in a week. I have watched the transformation of everything being taking down to being built and for a time I've been feeling like our city was failing. You have made me appreciate the city I have grew up in again and to make me proud of everything the city has accomplished over the years. So thank you Daphne for visiting our city and hope you come back again.
Those walkways do detract from the amount of people on the streets downtown but that's good because It keeps them out of the way of traffic and makes it so you don't have to put all your winter gear on just to cross the street
Living in Calgary for 20 years and, interestingly, I rarely do any of these activities. As a local, the best part about living in Calgary is being able to earn a living while accessing Kananaskis mountain activities in less than 30 minutes! Within a 1-3 hour drive, it also has access to Canmore, Banff, Lake Louise, Kicking Horse Mountain (Golden), Fernie Alpine Resort and more!
Great video! I recently moved from vancity to Calgary. Some think there's not much here but it's Honesty not a bad city! Get out and do things and u can really enjoy it!
If you come to calgary again , think you would love Angel's drive in, in bowness! It's a 50's inspired diner and their burgers, milkshakes and vegtable fries are to die for 😋
You visited some good spots in impressed, it's funny you ended up at the Silver Inn, that's like 100ft from where I live, it's a small world. Right across the street from Peter's is Wai's aquarium, the best Coral and Saltwater Fish store in the city, the reason I live in the neighborhood.
As someone who visits Calgary regularly for months, I can see that Calgary downtown is never busy. It's sole focus really is on business, I suppose, which is logical. Nothing I'm used to here in Europe so it's odd to see.
@@alainouellet7794 There was a capex boom in the early mid 2000s to mid 2010s as the oil sands were built out. The extra 10s of billions of investment boosted jobs in the industry both in terms of numbers and compensation. Now there is a cashflow boom, but not a investment/jobs boom because markets are not rewarding growth, so the cash is used for buybacks, dividends and paying down debt. This is most easily visible in office vacancy rates...pre-2015 oil crash, downtown office vacancy was sitting just under 10%. Now its sitting 3 times higher around 34% (and only slightly from pre-covid levels around 28%)... that being said, things in the city are generally looking up, quite a bit more hustle and bustle around town.
Our city continues to create endless outward expansion of our city rather than building inwards. We will be connected to Okotoks and Airdrie in no-time. There is very little point in dealing with the constant and confusing downtown-construction(of course unless you work there), when they now build every neighborhood with almost everything you could need within 10kms. I stay away from downtown as much as possible, while quiet, the rampant drug use is becoming a much larger problem, and using transit is equally as uncomfortable.
The one thing you missed is having a Caesar cocktail at the Westin Hotel Bar, it's also the birthplace of this beverage. (1969 in what was called at the time The Calgary Inn)
Calgary is a great city. I lived there a couple of times briefly when I was much younger. Also, as you said, near the Rockies. Of course, likely the only reason people don't move there is because of the cold winters. Otherwise it would probably be ten times the size of both Toronto (where I'm from) and Vancouver, combined!
Great call getting the OG ginger beef. That restaurant used to be located just outside of Chinatown, but moved to its current spot back in 1978. Next time you’re back, make sure to swing by Lina’s or the Italian Supermarket in the same neighbourhood for some delicious Italian food!

We then went to Banff, Lake Louise and Moraine lake. Moraine Lake is far more pretty than Louise! Couldn't believe the rich tourists from all over the world taking pictures of Louise the most famous lake in the world.Yes, the Rockies are spectacular, but Whistler is better. Back when I travelled to Calgary regularly, my favourite spot was the "family park" (close to the C-train route) , with the artificial different levels and waterfalls. The statue by the pond (woman spinning a child in the air with other family members looking on) was also special. Don't see it as it was in Google maps anymore. Too bad, and sad.

Anyone visiting some of my favourite spots:
Trails and parks near Alberta ballet and the nunnery buildings downtown 🤍 spent so much time there as my mom was principal ballerina! You get an awesome view of the city from just a short trail
Ironwood Vietnamese resturaunt family owned BEST food ever, plant, and collectors gallery which my dads a part of! As well as record land and iron wood which is a part of my family (awesome live music)
Kensington record stores
Willow park Italian restaurant Chiantis family run as well as armadio by della a consignment store
17th Ave Jamison’s bar and restaurant, record stores, Analog coffee, steeling home fun unique store. Oasis is also a great spa downtown here
Any performances at jubilee, Jack singer, or saddle dome highly recommend!
Scootering downtown is also a lot of fun :) love Calgary so much and I’m excited to be attending UofC this fall :)
