Great video! Yes to this all, my family and I just m led from BC to Chestermere just outside main Calgary. Buying a home in or around Vancouver or even the island just isn’t realistic. Townhomes are over a million dollars it’s so sad. Having a young family meant we had to really lay our cards out on the table and we decided to make the move after visiting the beautiful Chestermere. We don’t have any family or friends here so it goes to show that the decision was hard but necessary. So far what we love: it’s actually really beautiful, the roads are so much better constructed and the Stoney Trail loop makes getting around the city a breeze. It’s so much more family oriented here and everyone is so friendly. Chestermere has a lame and it’s the perfect little town that ain’t far from downtown. Can’t wait to do some more exploring. Also some points to include: gas is cheaper and there’s no PST here! Downtown is also super clean which surprised me

@@ZachSchultzRealEstate absolutely nervous especially because we don’t know anyone here but everyone seems very friendly. I’ve made a few mom friends at the park and at the lake and the Facebook groups out here are also helpful. I’m impressed with how many events there are all over the city from farmers markets to seeing alpacas and the Albert farm days to music fests and even mini stampedes like in strathmore. Safe to say we’ve kept busy!

They are a cute little shop and also do Santa photos with the alpacas! Definitely make a day of it! We hit up strathmore on the way back and checked out the water park and farmers market, very nice! summary -
    1. Calgary is more affordable than Vancouver and Toronto in terms of rent and home prices.
    2. There are job opportunities and economic growth in Calgary
    3. The vibe in Calgary is slower-paced and values hobbies and family time, but each community has a different vibe.
    3. Inner-city communities in Calgary have older homes, but newer infills are available at a premium.
    4. Calgary is spread out, so a car is needed, but has good road systems.

Hi! While shooting this video, I noticed that everything is green. Was interested to know how many months on the year does it stay green vs being covered in snow??
Also, what are your thoughts on new (2020+) communities being built i.e. Alpine Park, Vermilion Hill etc. I want to visit later this year to check em out, but google maps satellitle view still shows that those communities are far from being built which is why I was a bit confused as to progress there. But as a Vancouverite, seeing brand new detached units for sub 1M is insane. Not to mention, being a condo city dweller for so long, I am really intrigued about the idea of moving to an actual community based suburb. Even if its 20-30 mins from DT.

    • @ZachSchultzRealEstate
      @ZachSchultzRealEstate  Рік тому +3

Thank you for the comment, that's a very valid question! In Calgary it can be green between late May-August. After August it gets a bit brown/golden and then after a couple weeks/months is when the snow comes. That will last about 5 months or so.
The newer communities have some very nice homes as you mentioned but you will be living on a construction site most likely for several more years. If you send me an email at zach@liveinnercity.com we can chat and I will send you the best newer communities that would be a good fit for you. In order to understand what a good community means to you I'd need to understand fully understand your situation.
If you are okay with the drive, you can get some pretty nice places. If you don't want to be in a neighbourhood with lots of construction, you may want to consider some communities that were developed around 2010-2015. These would be places like Nolan Hill, Walden, Copperfield, New Brighton, Sage Hill, etc.

Any tips for new comer like me?

    • @ZachSchultzRealEstate
      @ZachSchultzRealEstate  2 роки тому

That’s super exciting congrats!! A lot of the tips depend on your situation and what you’re trying to do. Are you looking to rent or buy?
Here are some tips I’d give to anyone moving to Calgary:
      1. Determine your primary reason for coming to Calgary and then figure out the communities that support that reason the most. Since it sounds like you’ll be going to u of c often I would recommend being in NW inner city area. You don’t want to be on a super busy street like crowchild or right in front of the train because there will be more noise and more random people walking by. Calgarys pretty safe but it’s always better to be on a quieter street.
      2. Take a look at homes before you come so you know what to expect. Not only will you know more about the real estate market but you can start figuring out what your deal breakers are. Is it better to be further away from u of c where your money can get you something more modern than an older home inner city?
      3. Figure out your transportation. Will you need a car? How long are you willing to commute?
In order to give you the right tips I need a bit more info but I’d just ask yourself a lot of questions prior.
Was this helpful? Did you want tips about specific things?

I used to live in Seattle when it was up and coming and affordable, then it boomed--Amazon, Costco, Microsoft boomed and brought people from around the country and world in, and the affordability and charm was done. Then came high as hell rents, crazy ass traffic, profuse homelessness and rampant transientism of the populace and a metro area that cant keep up with demand. Calgary is positioned the same like Seattle, with the big city, with the small town fee--until it isn't and the 'small town' grows up and inherits big city issues.

Thank you for sharing your opinion, I really appreciate it. It is true, rent has increased significantly since I filmed this video but compared to other major Canadian cities it is still very affordable

Are all Canadians gay or just 75%?

Really?? Thank you for sharing, I really appreciate it. Which part of it looks townish? We are the 3rd largest city in Canada which is why I'm shocked haha

    Calgary
    Lions stand guard
    Protect the bridge's past
As waters rush beneath my path
    Chinatown greets me
    As the bus speeds past
Art is everywhere if you look up
As the crowd look down alas
Oh Calgary, how you tease me
    With your complicated downtown
    I walk against the crowd
A mixture of pity and proud
    Name-dropping conversations
    and telephone sounds
    Smells of cologne and brisket
BarBQing where deals and meals meet
    Not far announcements
    Of the upcoming Stampede
    Security stands guard
    Darkened doors silent Marquis
    No one blinks an eye
    On this busy street
    Where secrets are spoken
    I have walked several miles
Yet ended up where I started
    As the bells announced
    the trains going past
    And I followed business
    clones all dressed in black
    Tailored uniforms
    of financial pasts
I sat down craving the beer
    Announced on every corner
Not taken over by oil Barron's
    long renown for their behavior
    Where bankers meet
    White summertime
    snow flows as the
    night emperor knows
And his jester pushes his cart
Bottles picked all over the park
To pay the devil what he owes
Keeps what it takes and both push
    For it's stakes are high
As they are prey to the
    Lord of another kind
Songs and the media don't mind
    Glamorizing the lifestyle
    So many addicts
in the pinpoint of an eye
    It's a cat and sewer rat's game
    While cops drive on by
    Not seeing the quick handshakes
    At the speed of rattlesnakes
    Just as their venomous bites
    Finds another one to die

      Not a fan of poetry?
Calgary has a problem with corruption, drug gangs, shootings, stabbings (I have had my vehicles shot at and 3 attempted break ins).
You must work for the department of tourism.
