Workshop Series: Building a Fold Down Rolling Workbench

- For a work shop, a large workbench is essential but when there's limited room in the garage, you need something that can be stored away when not in use. I present a workbench that can be hung on the wall and folded flat when not in use, but still give plenty of space to support any project you can come up with.

I’ve seen this type of table in a lot of handyman magazines, thanks for sharing and looking forward to part 2
This is excellent! Well done. Basic materials and tools, all within easy reach for a DIY'er. This will work perfectly for my workshop!
Glad it was helpful!
Great job. Fantastic idea. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks! Appreciate it!
This design may be perfect for my workshop. I will check tomorrow and if it fits, I'm going to build this ASAP.
Keep in mind, you can adjust the dimensions to fit pretty much any space you have, and it should work perfectly!
Miata is always the answer. But the workbench is great too.
Good job.
A fellow lefty.
On Amazon there was a set of three left handed pens I thought I'd try.
They don't leave me with blue on my hand nor does the ink inexplicably stop coming out of them as I use them.
have seen a couple of this foldTable, I think I like this kind better with fixed wheels instead of the foldable ones
Love this idea. Great project. Going to be incredibly useful as my current ‘shop’ is a 28’ office trailer. I share this unfortunately tight space with 10LF of mechanic’s tool boxes, 3 welders, two compressors, my woodworking shop including a lathe, and drill press etc. My cast iron Delta tablesaw with router table unfortunately has to live covered up outside for now.
A permanent table would take up needed space.
14:23 MDF is awesome for a LOT things. Urethane on it makes for a great benchtop that glue won’t stick to, and all the mass for banging on stuff is great. I actually scratch-built the 70”x26” mechanics bottom chest with a welded steel frame, cast iron wheels , and baltic birch drawers and used MDF that I laminated to 2-1/4” - very heavy and dense top.
MDF is great for many things. Just don’t use it where plywood or lumber is more appropriate.
14:08 because what you need is to make or buy an adjustable fence for that router. I have a powerful multi base Bosch for a lot of stuff but the old Makita D-handle 1-1/2HP has the fence on it virtually 100% of the time.
Agree with the MDF, especially when you coat it, but for this installation it would have added another ~ 40 pounds if used instead of the plywood, and that would have made it a struggle to lift into position. If I make a bench that doesn't have to be lifted, MDF would be the material of choice. For the router fence, I just wasn't thinking! #LessonLearned
Cool design
Thanks Derek! Stay tuned for the follow-up video.
Amazing
Thanks Byron!
Exactly.
I wished I had purchased a long time ago.
Good 👍👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Can we get the dimensions please?
You bet! The table top is 31.5" x 72" (80 cm x 182.8 cm), and its height is 33.75" (85.7 cm). The wall mount takes up 67"x78", or 170 cm x 198 cm. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks more measures would help
I have a small garage and this would work great! How do I get plans?
Well, I don't have any plans for publishing, just some child-like sketches. If there's enough demand, I will learn a CAD app and put some together.
Love it! Got some add ons? Subscribing to see where you go from here! Looking forward to your next video
Thanks for dropping by! Yeah, I've got a video in the works with a few upgrades to the bench and hope to publish it soon...
You didn't use any hinges for the legs that lock.
That's true, I used lag bolts as the hinges to apply compression and used the cross beam at the bottom to keep the legs locked in place. There's still a bit of wobble in the setup so I have to circle back and make some improvements to the legs.
Is it me or does the sound-quality - seem to suffer; otherwise commendable single-handed production & design Sir ~ Hazzah!
Yup, that'll happen from time to time as an IT guy learns how to be a cinematographer and an editor. :)
Why mount it horizontally on the wall? Vertical mounting would save a good bit of wall space.
Access to the latches on the top for one, and the weight would make it pretty top-heavy.
😅now every "rudy" will have one by summer
where did you get the spring loaded locks you used to latch in the top when on the wall?
Got them at Amazon. Here's the link: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B081CT73PV?th=1
@@The_Master_Of_None thank you, and the table looks awesome. Making one this winter. Didn't even know i needed something like that until i saw your build
Thanks! Stay tuned for a follow-up video where I make some improvements to the table.
@@silviasteeve Took the words out of my mouth.
any plans or cut list available?
Nope, I haven't put any plans together. My thought was that everyone would want something custom to their space and needs. Plus, I haven't spent any time learning SketchUp or other CAD app . . . That's probably the biggest hindrance!
Sell the Plans?
I would like to disagree that you are “Master of None.” It is ok to say “Master of More than None, and Less than All. 😂
I think you may be laying it on a bit thick - but I'll take it!! :)
Nobody ever tells you the measurements.
One of the reasons I didn't provide the dimensions was that a workbench is - in my opinion - very unique to the builder and should be sized appropriately. What works for a tall person won't work for a short person, and vice versa. In my case, I also had to deal with a limited storage space on the wall.
@@The_Master_Of_None I probably go with something like this aswell. can agree with that , BUT, I also whant to hear the measurements, and IF I build "it" I can scale it a bit different if needed, but its good to have the "rough info" to start with :)
Hate these videos where they're sped up .
Well, I do have 11 hours and 9 minutes of raw footage that I could slap into a single video if you'd like, but that seems a bit too long :)
@The_Master_Of_None maybe you should watch the wood needs build. Funny how he did his and explained step by step with a lot of content.🤷🏾♂️
@@Dnice1967_ Not familiar with that channel and a quick search isn't helpful. Can you post the link?
Dude, the idea is to demonstrate and to communicate. We don’t want to watch a show.
Exactly what didn’t you get? Its pretty self explanatory. If you want instructions go buy an ikea book shelf
