      Viaduct, woods and the green rocky hills all inspired by the local area in Durham dales. Those old lines are now bike routes and I love cycling too, I try to model what I see whenI am out. Thanks for the nice comments 😊

      @HighFell loving the country side look, reminds me of my childhood when steam trains we're still working , and holidaying in highley on what's now the seven valley railway, haven't been there in years, but brings back wonderful memories. Thank you for sharing your post, it is inspiring for model builders.

      Metcalfe N is very close to TT:120 and I really enjoy making them. Excellent products. On the Farm area I used N tractors, implements and figures to create a forced perspective. I have 3 German locos, BR130 and V90 from Piko, brilliant and a Roco BR 108 not very brilliant. TT:120 being and internationally recognised scale helps loads. The premise on High Fell is that as some of the British diesel prototypes didn’t live up to expectations, BR trialed some German kit, technically the BR130 is Ukrainian 😁 Piko make very good value locos, reliable. Roco are living on a once great past, terrible quality and customer service. Can’t hold a candle to Hornby.

    The viaduct really adds to your layout, and with the addition of trees to the front and rear, it brings realisium to your model railway.
    Scenic3D sells many TT120 items as well as other gauges to create all those little scenes.

    • @HighFell
      @HighFell  7 місяців тому +1

      Thank you, the viaduct was always a key part of my plan, it’s a pair of Metcalfe N card kits end to end. Works great for TT:120, many of the viaducts in Durham Dales were built very well but ‘economically’ so not an excess of material not needed 😂. 3D printing has made extra detailing so easy, I have used a range of companies mainly West Hill Wagon Works, DAPR and SR3D designs so far and made bits and pieces myself, it’s certainly a growing industry 😊

      @@HighFell Yes, here's to an expansion in the product range. I'm a OO gauge DC Runner but it's great to see a step change like TT120, as the gauge and the scale are all correct, unlike what we call OO Scale. Many Thanks!

    • @HighFell
      @HighFell  7 місяців тому +1

      @@Flymochairman1I was brought up on OO both HD 3 rail and my later Hornby. There was some LoneStar non motorised in there and my Tri-ang Big Big train! The scale is unimportant but it’s about engaging in the hobby, too much negativity from some quarters on YT! The big thing with TT:120 is that models become international, more important with modern things like Eurostar, Vectron or class 66 where the next generation will probably start their journey in the hobby and that’s what it needs 😁

    Superb detailing of this gorgeous layout. Of its many highlights, the ones that grabbed my attention were the variety of tones in the ballast, the realism of the road/path colors, and your handling of the overall landscape. The mural is the perfect backdrop, too. Where did you get it? I could almost imagine Hercule Poirot and Captain Hastings alighting from a carriage into your miniature world. 😂 However, as a fly guy, the incorporation of a low level RAF training mission was icing on the cake. I’m eagerly looking forward to your future updates. Best wishes.

    • @HighFell
      @HighFell  7 місяців тому

      Thank you for the very kind words. The backscene was from Model Scenic Supplies and is their Hills and Dales Pack A and B, it’s in N gauge and works well with TT:120 scale. Ballast is different everywhere and I wanted it to have the look of newly laid track in places, sections of maintenance where modern light signals have been installed rather than a single uniform colour. Glad you like the jets, I remember almost every valley used to be a low flying practice area up in the North, or it seemed that way 😂 the next projects are underway and I will do a close up video of the docks in next couple of weeks

    I would love more information on n gauge buildings on a tt120 layout

    • @HighFell
      @HighFell  3 місяці тому

      On High Fell, the viaduct, disused tunnel, farm, church and the railway cottages that back onto the goods yard are all Metcalfe N Gauge. All the other buildings and structures are in TT:120 scale. Most of the Metcalfe N buildings are used slightly away from the main areas to give a slightly forced perspective. The farm has N gauge equipment and figures to try and reinforce that. Although Metcalfe N is not so far away from 1:120 as to cause many problems other than height for the railway parts. The Platforms are Metcalfe N slightly stacked up and work well. If you find the TT:120 section on the Hornby Forum, a lot of people have used N gauge buildings, some have changed doorways to work with TT:120 figures right next them. Remember British N is oversized for the track, like OO. Continental N buildings are smaller again.

    Hi High Fell, 😁 Great details and I’m happily stealing quite a few of them. 👍 Couple of questions…. What backscenes have you used on this, as I’m looking for something similar. Next, how you do the reverse loop? I bought a Lenz LK200 module which unfortunately wont work with HM7000 and the Hornby power supply! 😢 Apparently the Hornby power supply is 15V DC and the majority of RLM’s work on 15V AC (all a bit black magic to me?? 🤔🙄) so I’m still stumped with this. 😡 Any help or pointers hugely appreciated.
    Oh yeah, your graunching motors issue you posted, my Willy Whitelaw and the Night Hawk making some unpleasant noises now so any update on the supply or replacement options for carbon brush/ motors??
    Sorry for all the questions which are a bit off topic?? 😊

    • @HighFell
      @HighFell  11 днів тому +1

      You are welcome to use any ideas 😁
      The main loop backscenes are from ID, Dales and Moors in N. OO always looks oversize for TT:120. The quayside is a Gaugemaster Industrial one again in N but it would have been better if it was taller, like the ID one. Loads of choice but avoid the fancy glues, they don’t work. I prefer carpet tape now, some backscenes are ready self adhesive. Any wet glues will play havock with the printed backscene paper no mater how good it says they are. Wallpaper would be ideal!
      With RLM, the majority are configured to work with AC as per regular DCC track power. However it’s possible to make a DC RLM or if you can wait the new Hornby one will work both AC and DC but it’s still in development AFIK. Something to consider with RLM is if you are ‘double heading’ the current draw on the RLM may exceed what it can easily supply, I have just swapped out the Lenz unit for a Tam Valley ‘Frog Juicer’ that can be set up for both powering live point frogs or to act as a RLM, it has adjustable current settings. It will be a similar situation if you had an HST, both power cars having decoders, lights and sound, you will get a temporary stall and possibly drop in performance with the Lenz unit. If that’s not an issue, you could consider using a suitable AC power supply and the Lenz RLM will work with that fine.

    • @HighFell
      @HighFell  11 днів тому +1

      As to motors, Hornby will look after any customer with motor repairs but they are currently only fitting the same spec as OE. You can check the videos I have done on DIY fixes. You can replace the end cap with the same BE brushes from a motor available on EBay, easiest, swap to an end cap with carbon brushes again from a motor available on EBay a little harder as the end cap needs preparation. There is no 12v N20 carbon brush motor currently available for a direct swap.

    • @andywilliams4116
      @andywilliams4116 11 днів тому +2

      Hi High, 🤔😂 many thanks for your replies and info. I’ll look into the AC power supplies or maybe just wait for the Hornby RLM…… Still building at a leisurely pace. Benefits of retirement and “other” hobbies.😉🏍️ I’ll look to get some end caps for the motor issues when they become unbearable, but it’s a shame Hornby don’t currently offer any spare bits for us tinkerer’s to play with huh?
      Again, thank you much for your help and keep up the good work. TT120 is a lotta fun eh?
      Cheers

      @andywilliams4116 6 днів тому +1

      Hi High Feller (again), Thanks again for all your help, you stated that I could use a “suitable” AC power supply that would work with the LENZ unit? Please forgive my ignorance, but would the TT120 locomotives work with an AC supply? (If so what type/ rating?)
      They are DC and after a little look on the interweb I see that some say they will work if they have ‘series’ motors. Really don’t want to fry the whole set up before I get to grips with it. Still building slowly, but would like to resolve the loop issue before adding the detail & scenics.
      Cheers
      Andy
