Is there a torque setting for the crank pulley ?
By a long way that is the most clear and comprehensive tutorial that I have ever seen on you tube for car maintenance, thanks very much.
👍 glad to hear it! thanks for the comment 😃
That’s so clear everything you doing thank you so much sir u are the best professional mechanic I have ever seen thanks a lot
I'm fairly handy with spanners , strictly amateur on my own cars but this is the best clearest video I've ever seen, brilliant work . Well done
Thanks 👍
What a great video.. Ill be watching through this just to make sure that I don't miss anything when doing mine. Cheers
👍👍
I've done my share of timing belts but it's always nice to get a preview of what I'm in store for when taking on a project.
Very professional presentation. Thanks so much.
Thanks 👍
You're the lad. Done vauxhalls and Hondas but never a diesel ford. Great help. Cheers
No problem 👍
Outstanding video, really clear to see whats involved and how to go about doing the job as a diy'er
Will definitely be referring to this when I do my belt and pump.
Thanks for taking the time and effort to put it together.
Glad it was helpful! thanks for the comment
One of the best DIY tutorials Video I have watched thank you. Now for me to crack on with it 👍💪
👍 glad it will help , good luck with it 👌
Done a good few timing belts on my own cars but it’s nice to see what is involved on different models of cars before starting on it it’s good people like you take the time to do tutorials. 💪💪👍
@@ericdanby8584 thanks comments always appreciated mate , glad it’s helping others 👍
Great video 👏.. very tempted to do my own timing belt on 2012 SMax as quoted €1,200 for the job with local Ford dealer ☹️
Very enjoyable, buddy.
I wish I had your skill, but more than that, your patience.
Thanks 👍
Love Your video buddy, watching right after I bought my first mondeo with this engine
Thanks 👍👍
great DIY vid I've got my timing belt to replace on my smax so this vid will be a great help thanks
Good luck! 👍👍
Excellent video. Good job. Thanks.
Like the home made crank pin I have one similar I made out of an old bonnet stay 👍
Haha good idea! Had to make it quick as couldn’t find ours , spotted an exhaust clamp kicking about and thought that’ll do!
Need an old bonnet stay.. Wish I knew what the gauge was...
That was Superb .
👍👍
Great video. Well described.
👍👍 thanks
another good presentation mate
Thanks John 👍👍
great video thank you
What a great video mate. Thank you. Just out of curiosity, are the locking pins 8mm? my kit has been delayed and I've already sorted to take it apart and could really do with the car being ready before next week. Could I use 2 8mm drill bits? Keep up the great work. Thank you
First of all. Thank you. I owe you a beer.
How long should the job take an experienced DIY mechanic please?
👍👍 around 3-4 hours
Is there any tutorial on replacing the tdci thermostat housing?
Thank you
You're welcome
Hi there im not sure i put flywheel wrong way. This engine to set up timimg bottom. Piston 1 on top ? Or all 4 in middle plz
also am i right in thinking its twice round on top sprocket to once round on flywheel ?
Thanks for sharing 🔧💥👍
Cheers mate!😁👍
Great job.
Thanks! 👍👌
Good stuff 👍🏼
Thanks 👍
Good job sir 👍👍
Thanks! 😁👍👍
Thanks for the video. I've got the same engine, injector number 2 over fueling. Tested with another spare injector but the same problem persists. Compression and wiring good. I'm leaning towards the ECU being faulty. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks.
That’s an odd one! I’m not sure without looking tbh mate
@@diydaly Odd indeed. Thanks for the feedback.
Merhaba , çalışmalarınızı gördüm ve sizi başarılı buldum, benimde bir sorunum var umarım yardımcı olursunuz , ben Türkiye'den yazıyorum 2006 model 2.0 tdci's-max aracım 2 ayda 2 kez krank kasnağı vidası gevşedi ve Ford yetkili servisinde kesin sorunu bulamadılar ve tahmini şu an kasnak setini değiştireceğiz korkum bunun sorunu nedir neden yapar , cevaplarsanız çok memnun olurum , sizlere hayırlı işler bol kazançlar dilerim .
hi fantastic video well made job done , very informative, I'm thinking of buying one of these cars, are the reliable thank you
No problem 👍 thanks for the comment, yeah there not bad tbf mate
Great video! Very easy to follow... How long this took to complete from start to finish please? Just so I can plan my day around it. I'll be buying the pins & kit via your link, I hope its an affiliate so you make a little bit. Thank you
Thanks! Allow around 4-5 hours if you’ve not done one before but on average it’s 3 hour job .. great thanks 😀 yes they are affiliate links, hopefully still live as some have expired! That job is on my list but it means going through every video description to check and edit them ha
Is it necessary to apply rubber grease to the sealing ring when installing the water pump?
Not absolutely necessary but I like to
having trouble undoing pully bolt .can i just put in gear (manual) instead of removing starter to lock flywheel .then in reverse at the end to torx the bolt up or is that asking for trouble ??
you can try putting it in 4th gear and pressing the brake hard down
Cool 🎉🎉🎉
👍 thanks
Hi great video i m a DIY mechanic in my case I m just concerned about the belt breaking so I just want to change that and the pulleys do you think it's necessary to change the water pump as there's not much that can go wrong with them as far as I can see .I know for a pro mechanic it's good practice to do both ,but in my case do you think just changing the belt and pulleys would be ok .thanks
Yeah it’s perfectly ok to just do the belt and pulleys .. I’d advise getting a pump incase .. so if you strip in down and find the pump had been weaping .. or has antifreeze staining around it then you’ll have to replace it 👍
I ll probably buy the the full kit anyway and see like you said if theres any leakage around the water pump area .I'm a fabby welder by trade but I ve also done some mechy fitting wouldn't call myself a mechanical fitter though just picked things up through the years I want to have a go at replacing the the clutch and flywheel at some point in the future do you think this is a job that could be done outside of a garage with out using overhead ramps etc . Thanks
@@thegoat949 👍 yeah sounds a good plan .. yeah I’d say say it’s quite easily so able on floor .. worst bit will be physically lifting the box in and out.. just get it jacked up fairly high on some axle stands
Yeh once I do the timing belt probably wait for the weather to get better first .then I'll plan on the clutch and flywheel don't want to do to much and end up in a mess lol .cheers for the reply
@@thegoat949 👍👍
We had a cam belt and kit water pump fitted less than 12 months ago the rac came out and said the cambelt had snapped took it back to the Garage which done the belt are saying its the cam shift snapped is this possible thanks
it is possible for the camshaft to break but not very common
alright bud,if the timing belt snapped and crank was totally out time to the flywheel will it be as simple just to line them both up and pin then , to be back in time
yes to try it but it will have most likely damaged something
Hi Gav. Where are you based? Great video. My 2010 S-Max needs a belt and service. Can you help me? Always want to support helpful Y Tubers like yourself. Please let me know.
Thanks Jem, replied to your email
What antifreeze did you use. Can you just add red one from eurocarparts?
yeah that'll be fine mate
Does the 2.0 tdci not have a wet belt to change also?
Not on this engine code
@@diydalyиодрте ли вы мне подсказать? У меня Ford S Max 2014 года, 2 литра дизель. 163 л/с. Этот двигатель ставиться и в Пэжо? Или только в Форд? Спасибо большое!
Bit snug that one,I have taken the scuttle panel off on some, let's some light in there : )
Haha yeah made it abit tricky to film! 🤣👍
Hi Would this be the same procedure for the 2.2 TDCi engine on the 2011 Smax? Thanks!
Have you got the reg and I will check mate
@@diydaly Sure, is there somewhere I can PM you?
@@royglennie You can send it to me email listed mate
@@diydaly sent you a website enquiry 👍thanks
@@royglennie 👍 just replied
Can you not torque up the crankshaft pulley against the locking pin?
No mate not advisable , it will bent the pin.. it can be done but I really wouldn’t advise it
@@diydaly yeah it would be just my luck to sheer off a piece of drill bit or bolt in there and end up having to take off the gearbox :). Ordered the Laser locking tool. Cheers
@@liampope1 nice one, no probs 👍👍
Hi good tutorial, can you tell me the diameter of the locking pin for the fly wheel?? Thanks
I can’t quite remember tbh mate , I’m fairly sure it’s 6mm
afaik 8
@@diydaly i agree the kit i bought included 8ml pin for flywheel but was to big for hole in block i used something that was 6ml
my crankshaft and camshaft don't meet at dead point can you help me, please
When you say they don’t meet , if you line the crank up how far out is the camshaft?
@@diydaly THANK YOU FOR YOU REPLY; CAMSHAFT WAS AT 10 AM ; WHILST CRANKSHAFT WAS ALIGN WITH FLYWHEEL
SORRY ABOUT THE SHOUTING HAVE PROBLEMS WITH KEYBOARD
THANKS
@@michaelblue2226 how many teeth would do say it’s out from the mark then?
@@michaelblue2226 Are you using the correct hole near the starter motor? I think there is another hole behind the starter motor but that's used for timing the fuel pump hence don't use that one. There will likely feel to be more than one locking hole on the flywheel. I would slowly rotate the crankshaft by hand as you lightly press the locking pin against the flywheel, when the camshaft locking hole is almost in position you will feel the flywheel locking pin slide in. If not, rotoate the crank again until the camshaft does one complete turn. You might find that when the flywheel pin is fit, the camshaft locking hole is off by 0.5 mm or so. Don't worry, its just belt stretch etc. When you slacken the timing belt tensioner the camshaft locking pin will slide in.
Where do you find the torque specs for each car?
I have access to techdata , it’s very similar to autodata
@@diydaly thank you

Wrong to be using red permanent thread lock on a water pump. The next time that water pump is removed the bolts will likely damage the threads or snap. It should be blue thread lock if anything needs to be removed again. To date, I have never used thread lock on water pump bolts and never had them leak or loosen.
Thanks for the info
I have no timing belt but the car still starts is that normal?
