can you tell me how I can add a minus 1.7 exposure to each shot WITHOUT the camera adjusting the shutter to compensate or "fix" the under exposure? Every time I try to set the exposure adjustment, it changes the setting. Im stuck!
Have you made a video yet on using an slog picture profile while filming with the A7Siii? As I feel having a wider dynamic range on sunny days to be extremely important.
HELP!!! Will you do a video on custom buttons for Sony flash settings and bracketing ambient. I just bought the a74 and I’m coming from canon and this is all so overwhelming to me. The custom buttons are very different and I can’t figure out how to set the flash to go off in a custom button. I have my silent shutter mode off, that was my first problem. But setting the customs has kept me from taking my camera out in the field and I am so excited to use the Sony. Canon you didn’t have to switch between bracketing ambient and flash settings on custom buttons, all I had to do was turn the receiver of my AD200 off.
Mike, In focusing for HDR , would things go faster if after you auto-focused for the first shot, you switched to manual so that the next 4 don’t have to try to autofocus or is the difference in time so negligible as to not worth doing? ? Thanks.
Hey Stephen! The camera only focuses once for the first shot and then fires off the 5 brackets automatically if you are in continuous bracket shooting mode.
Hey! Thanks for the video. I use Canon and i cant use my external monitor to shoot because my on camera level does not show up on my external monitor. I can use it only without external monitor. Is that the case with Sony cameras also?
Yes, f8 for photos in order to have a wide depth of field (everything in focus). Shutter speed will compensate to let the appropriate amount of light in. Even if shutter speed is slow it doesn’t matter since we are shooting on a tripod.
Hi Mike, thanks for the for the video! Question in regards to the setting, specifically ISO @ 400. Does that apply for exterior shots as well? Using the A7iii
Thanks for the comment on ISO, I've always been using 100 on my a7ii. Just upgraded to A7iv and I know that has much better ISO performance then a7ii and was wondering if I could up my ISO to 400 to speed up the process. Especially for evening shots.
Hi Mike , great video thank you. Quick question is there a option to change the size of the picture size because when I tried to merge in my computer to HRD it took so long and I’m not sure why is that and if the because of the size of the pictures. I’m using A7r4 with 14 MM rokinon f2.8 AF
Hey! Yes, the A7R4 has massive file sizes so that is probably the reason. You can change the size of the files if you are shooting jpeg but if you are shooting RAW then its just the one size.
Great video as always Mike. Super informative and helpful for us small businesses out there. I'm curious to know the difference between shooting 2.0 Ev vs 3.0 Ev and how it effects image quality/brightness.
2.0 Ev is more than enough dynamic range with doing 5 brackets. 3.0 Ev 5 brackets would be overboard. When I hand blend a lot of time I don't even use all the brackets. If I were to do 3.0 Ev then I would only shoot 3 brackets and that would probably suffice.

Great video! Lots of questions though... What camera body do you have there? I was shooting using full frame setup but got so sick of trapsing the body around that I tried some of the APSC sony stuff and settled on a a6400 however, it has issues. I contacted sony years ago to see if they'd implement some new controls... not sure if they did it. Specifically I wanted to lock shutter angle aka stop bleepn camera from shooting video at 1/30s w/ 30fps. I also wanted higher frame rate on APSC setup like you are talking about, even 2.7k 60fps if possible. I'd LOVE to see if I could shoot full manual but have auto exposure through varying the ISO (maybe it does that now? idk I gave up shooting video with my Sony body cause it was a ROYAL PITA). Oh also second question, what aperature do you use for gimbal shots? I have two issues there (1) auto focus seeks at higher aperture - so I turn off auto focus which works reasonably well (2) if too low an aperture you cannot control easily where it focuses / get it to focus consistently... maybe you've found a better configuration for video? When I turn up aperature then ISO shoots up and or shutter speed drops... It's been tricky. I've honestly, completely ditched these cameras for video. I went to a GoPro but noise grain leaves a little to be desired there. However, I don't have to worry about all the issues setting the camera up and getting focus and exposure glitches all the time.
Hi Mike, thanks for your hard work.. Curious why you have a Ninja V attached. don't you record video to it..? Also what is your starting shutter speed for bracketing, or does setting A take care of that?
Yes, aperture priority takes care of shutter speed automatically. The ninja V is recording my camera screen so I can show the menu and all for the video.
Hey mike , Do you need a Cf Express type A card to record 120 fps 4k? or a standard V90 sd card? have you ever tried s cinetone as a pic profile as well? I have my a7siii ordered and waiting for it!
I use a 2 second timer to take my bracketed photos. All I have to do is push the shutter button once and it will take all of my bracketed photos back to back without me having to push the shutter button again. Is this method okay rather than using a remote?
Sure is! I do that as well. Remote definitely comes in handy though for when you need to get out of the room or out of the way and still be able to trigger the camera.
I’m still having problems. I’ve gone through everything setting that I have. Unless the room is well lighted all 5 photos aren’t taking. What am I doing wrong?
Are you using a remote or pressing shutter button on the camera? If your pressing the shutter button you’ll have to hold it down until all brackets have completed shooting. To avoid that you can set a 2 sec timer.
Hi Mike. Love your videos. I set up my Sony A7 S3 exactly how you showed for HDR photography but can't get sharp photos. The focus is always focusing on the closest object to the camera. The green squares are bouncing on the screen, what am I doing wrong please? Many thanks.

I think either option is viable. I’ve actually even been doing 5 brackets 1 stop apart the past couple weeks and it’s been working out well. I think there are multiple ways you can go with bracket settings and have good results.
Really enjoyed. How do you choose what situations call for flambient and what is better shooting HDR? Also when using a flash do you ever use a remote app., perhaps with an iPad, to view results? I would really like to utilize Sony's Edge remote app with my A7R111 but it's so unreliable. Thanks.
Hi mike, great vid. I did the same settings you did for HDR interior and had some questions. I assumed that I would just press the shutter once and it would take 5 photos, but it seems i have to hold it down. Second, the majority of the photos seem very under exposed, is that normal? And third, I imagine using a tripod for this stuff is super necessary. True?
Yes definitely a tripod is necessary. You can set the timer to 2 seconds so when you press the shutter it beep for 2 seconds then fire off all the shots consecutively
Just got my a7iv out of the box. Getting a bit cross. I set "2 sec. 3 Img." Press shutter once. 2 sec beeps then 3 images but all the same EV? If I choose the next option eg "BRK C 1.0EV 3 Image" then I can get the auto bracket I was looking for, but I have to hold my fat wobbly finger on the shutter until is all 3 shots are fired. Is this right? If so then is a remote shutter button my only solution?
Mike .. have you ever used your external monitor specifically for composing your shot for stills ? I have such a hard time view the back screen on my A7iii vs my Shinobi … it would a crazy set up with a flash trigger but that large screen makes a huge difference

12MP is definitely enough for real estate photography, I assure you of that! A7IV is definitely a good camera. As you said, some drawbacks in the video department but still great. A7iii is still a great camera as well.

Hi Mike, I am really enjoying your videos. One question, do you use the Sony in camera lens compensation to correct any lens distortion when doing wide angle video recording? Thanks, David
Hey mike great video man! Quick question if you wouldn't mind answering. I currently have the A6600 (which I use for UA-cam and so forth) and I'm starting a RE company. I'm kind of torn on if I should upgrade to the A7IV with the Tamron 17-28mm or if I should just pick up the Tamron 11-20mm for my A6600. Both lenses cost the same so ultimately I would be spending extra for the A7IV. Trying to decide if my A6600 would be good enough for both RE photography and videography. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Hi, have you done any tests to compare the 4:2:2 10bit vs 4:2:0 8bit? Is there any significant difference, can you get better, quality results with 10bit? I mean is there any difference that can be visible in the final product. I don't care about technical specs, I'm not a pixel peeper, I just wanna know if my client will really see the difference in the quality.. mainly I'm interested in the dynamic range. Can you really retrieve more details in post? My current video camera shoots 4:2:0 8bit internally and I wonder is it really worth it to upgrade to a better camera that shoots 4:2:2 10bit or to buy external recorder which would cost me around $1K. Cheers!
I don’t know that it’s worth it to spend a bunch of money on. There is a difference but will your client notice? No. I notice a significant difference when I’m doing some color grading. I notice I can push the 10 bit footage more.
@@InsideRealEstatePhotographyThank you. I've noticed that when I try to push my 8bit footage it falls apart quickly. Maybe you could do a video about it, show the difference :)
FYI for sony 6400 users, ISO in these cameras have 2 base ISO's. ISO 100 and ISO 400 are the base ISO settings and will produce the cleanest images. ISO 400 works very well, and has virtually no quality difference vs using ISO 100 in Aperture priority.
Thank you Mike! For the video setting of 4K 120FPS at 10bit...how do you edit? The A7 Siii won't allow proxies for 120FPS. My laptop is pretty powerful but can't handle that. Do you have Premiere create proxies?
My new 16” MacBook Pro actually handles them just fine which is incredible but yes, before I got this computer a few months ago I had to make proxies in premiere. I made a video on that as well: ua-cam.com/video/MZMSTJil2iE/v-deo.html
@@InsideRealEstatePhotography Thank you! I use proxies out of the A7Siii now....I'll try your method with the higher frame rate and have premiere make the proxies. Your videos are smooth as butter...so I'm excited to get out of the 60FPS 8bit. Thank you.
Hi Mike! Thanks for this video, is super helpful! Is it possible to set up the camera to shoot hdr with 2 sec self-time drive mode? I don’t have the remote control yet. Also, do you recommend compressed or not comp raw files? Thanks a lot
Hey! Yes, you can do a 2 sec delayed timer (at least if you’re using one of the Sony cameras). It’s in the shooting menu I just can’t recall where it is off the top of my head. Compressed raw is definitely good!
In that basics video I was demonstrating the most efficient and straightforward way to shoot and process images which included auto merging HDRs. If you are auto merging and doing light editing on the images as shown in that video then jpegs will hold up just fine. That's what I did when I first started out and it worked well for me in those days which is why I suggested it as a great way to get going in RE photography. Nowadays I hand blend everything and do much heavier editing so I require the additional flexibility that RAW offers.
@15:53 He starts telling you HOW to set "custom slots" for shots THEN at 16:54 he says WHY you want to do that. Would have made more sense to me to start with WHY then HOW. Almost quit watching because I knew nothing about "slots". T-G I continued watching.
Why would you focus for your ambient shot, then refocus for your flash shot? I don't know. Also, it would be great if you explained why you adjust to f/7.1 for flash down from f/8 for ambient. Seems like you have a lot of methodology that you got from somewhere, but you don't explain what your reasoning is. Also, if you tend to always meter at 0, why not use aperture priority? Seems like you're going to be touching the camera a LOT by changing your settings so much every time. You could just have M1 for your HDR brackets at f/8 5x2 stops, and M2 as your flash shots at f/7.1, single shot. Then you're only touching the camera one time between ambient and flash. Also, I notice your AWB is very warm. Seems like you're getting hit with the dreaded Godox WB issue. I've taped up my Godox Sony trigger pins and that's fixed it. Thanks!

Awesome video ! I’m so on the fence of my next camera… I definitely want high quality video IE A7siii but my boss thinks 12 MP isn’t enough for stills … Have you heard any thing good about the a74 for real estate? I know it shoot 4K @60fps but crops in 1.5x unfortunately
12MP is definitely enough for real estate photography, I assure you of that! A7IV is definitely a good camera. As you said, some drawbacks in the video department but still great. A7iii is still a great camera as well.
@@InsideRealEstatePhotography This answered my question above.
Great video...
Thank you !
Hey Mike ... I currently shoot on the a7iii... I just started shooting Real estate and definitely video as well... Do you ever use your a7iii for stills and have the a7siii set up o the gimbal ready to go??
Nope, use my a7siii for everything!
My gimbal is always ready to go, just have to slap camera on it
@@InsideRealEstatePhotography Ok 👌 what is your most used focal length on the Gimbal ? I’m asking because I might have to With a74 which is 1.5x crop at slow mo 60fps in 4K unfortunately… I want the A7siii but he wants no less then 24 megapixels … and I need 4k slow mo
@@alansarpy most used is 16mm
Putting my order For my A7siii tomorrow! Probably be a month before it comes lol
Should I be setting my ISO maximum to 400?
I typically leave mine set to 400. I wouldn’t venture any higher than that really.
@@InsideRealEstatePhotography it only takes one photo when I have it set that low. What am I doing wrong?
@@InsideRealEstatePhotography it only happens when I’m in low lighting. Could it be because I’m using a 190mbs memory card
Hi Mike, I am really enjoying your videos. One question, do you use the Sony in camera lens compensation to correct any lens distortion when doing wide angle video recording? Thanks, David
So good
Hey mike great video man!
Thanks!
Hey! Thanks. Yeah, I think the a6600 will do you just fine!
@@InsideRealEstatePhotography thanks a ton for replying so quickly! It’s been an incredibly hard decision so I really appreciate this reply! I just don’t want to drop $850 on the 11-20mm then have to upgrade to the Sony A7IV down the line when/if I get into higher end houses.
Thanks again and have a great night!
@@LehmonMedia yeah, I hear you but you will always be able to sell the lens when you need to.
@@InsideRealEstatePhotography that’s actually a great point lol. Thanks a ton man

How old do you have to be to get into real estate photography (I’m 14)
FYI for sony 6400 users, ISO in these cameras have 2 base ISO's. ISO 100 and ISO 400 are the base ISO settings and will produce the cleanest images. ISO 400 works very well, and has virtually no quality difference vs using ISO 100 in Aperture priority.
10/10 👏
Don’t you want things more in focus ? If you have the aperture open won’t that make things out of focus?
Thank you!!!
In your old video on camera settings on the A7III you used JPEG....have you stopped doing that and now shoot in RAW?
In that basics video I was demonstrating the most efficient and straightforward way to shoot and process images which included auto merging HDRs. If you are auto merging and doing light editing on the images as shown in that video then jpegs will hold up just fine. That's what I did when I first started out and it worked well for me in those days which is why I suggested it as a great way to get going in RE photography. Nowadays I hand blend everything and do much heavier editing so I require the additional flexibility that RAW offers.
@@InsideRealEstatePhotography Thanks for clarifying!
Thanks for the info! …Slowww downnn. And kind of confusing with the contradiction.
@15:53 He starts telling you HOW to set "custom slots" for shots THEN at 16:54 he says WHY you want to do that. Would have made more sense to me to start with WHY then HOW. Almost quit watching because I knew nothing about "slots". T-G I continued watching.
@@billb13 that’s a good point, sorry for the confusion!
Thanks!
Buy the time you by a Sony camera your outdated next month...its the Gatcha game with sony.
