Mike, great video, thanks. I just purchased a used but hardly used Benro 3xm. Trying to figure the balancing but that is off subject. I use my Sony for real estate photography and have been getting requests for videos. I am 80 and I know it will be a challange to learn video. I noticed my video settings had changed some settings for photography. WB. Focusing not sure what else yet. I did place my setting for video in S1. I subscribed to your channel some time ago and fouind them to be very usful and easy to understand.
Great video. I try to limit my 'trick' shots to just one per home, and it has to be a very special detail, like above head architecture, etc. Simple wins!
Great video with some very good points. My only negative is that your vertical walls are not straight, I know this is sometimes not possible particularly with crane style shots. I always make sure my camera is level on the gimbal before I start and I am constantly checking it throughout the shoot.
@@InsideRealEstatePhotography Fair enough we all have our styles but for me personally I never give agents still or videos with walls that aren't vertically straight as a sign of professionalism. As I said, it isn't always possible with video and if I am not happy I will straighten in post.
Excellent. Great tip about using the Manfrotto Quick Release Plate. I've just ordered one from Amazon in order to save time configuring the gimbal settings on site.

Hey Mike, great video! I'm using an older Canon for now. For the video resolution I have the option to choose either ALL-I (low compression) which apparently offers better image quality and is better for colour grading, but has much larger files. Whereas IPB (high compression) still offers good image quality but takes up 3 times less space, which would you recommend? Apparently for Sony users it's XAVCS = IPB, XAVCS-I = ALL-I Also for my resolution 1920x1080 only goes to 30fps, whereas 1280x720 goes to 60fps, which would you recommend here?
Can you do a video on how you set up all of your custom settings for a real estate shoot? I just got this camera and need to figure all this stuff out.
When changing from 16 to 35mm do you shoot the whole house at one focal length first and then come back around getting the details with the 35mm? Seems like that would be the best option so you're not having to rebalance the gimbal every time you change focal length. Or is that even an issue?
I think I have watched all your videos now, as you give such great advice 👍. I would appreciate a video on your gimbal settings. As you say, there are loads on balancing a gimbal, but not so many of best settings, especially for real estate. I am really having problems trying to mimic a slider shot with my Ronin S.
Yes In aperture priority mode you can only adjust aperture and shutter speed is adjusted automatically which is why it’s faster and more convenient. Shutter speed won’t matter as long as you are shooting on a tripod.
Amazing content, I starting at video making after 7 years of only photography, including lots of real estate photography. I think that in photography (as I seen in your photos) the parallels lines must be dead on instead it will look weird. In your video i see that you’re very forgiving in this regard. I think in video is more “forgiving” at that aspect but I really bothers me 😂 Thanks again for sharing! Subscribed!
If anyone knows of a great hard case for the Ronin SC where I can leave it adjusted/balanced for my camera. Right now I use a soft camera bag. It fits in so I can just pull it out and attach the camera quickly with only a balance check, then off to filming. But, it really has no protection this way which makes me wonder how long it will be before I accidentally drop or crush it.

Hey, I'm using the Sony a7iv with the zeis f4 16-35mm for video which works great, however I do find that the footage will be grainy in darker homes. Even when the ISO is as low as 500-800. Is this the lens and would you recommend shooting with a certain picture profile or anything to fix this?

Hi Mike, Your point about shooting with a wide lens but not too wide really stuck out to me. I shoot on Sony APS-C and wonder if you think a Sigma 16mm would be adequate before shelling out more cash on a Sony 10-18mm lens.

Great info... you give quick concise quality tips. I am using an older camera and my resolution/framerate options are 1080@ 30fps or 780@60fps. Given this info would you still opt for 60fps to slow down the footage in post? or would you shoot at 1080 for better resolution. I fell like 780 is the answer especially given that I am new and using a glidecam....I think I may need the help in smoothing out the shots in post. Anxious to hear your advice.

Hey! I’m not sure about that particular set up. If you look at the specs for the gimbal it should tell you what it’s payload can be up to. You should be able to find your lens and camera weight on line as well. Just make sure it’s well within the limit Of the gimbal payload. If it’s pushing it then I would say size up because it think these companies over estimate the payload capability if these gimbals. Better to be way under the limit then close to the max.
Do you have a recommended case for the Ronin-S, to keep it balanced? The case that comes with it requires adjustment, which defeats pre-balancing it before a shoot.

Excellent video! You are the GOAT! One question - how do you transport your Ronin S to the job site without dismantling? (I get the pre-mounted quick release plate but you still have to balance it if you pack the gimbal away and have to set it up) Any tips?
2 things id like to note. I tried the Ronin SC with the same camera and lens and it was too heavy for it. I switched to Weebill Lab S and it helped. The other thing I see that verticals aren't straight in quite a few shots. I was always under the impression that's not very professional. But what do I know I'm just starting out.
That’s true about the verticals in photos. When you’re shooting moving video with a handheld gimbal there’s no way you’re going to have straight verticals. I pay no mind to it for video.
In the options on my camera I can for example, set the video to be in 4k 60. What is the purpose of the frame rate dial in this case? Isn't it already in 60fps? Or does this dial become useless?
If you’re using an aperture that high for video inside then your iso would have to be extremely high which would result in a noisy, less quality image. You can do it for photos on tripod since you can have a really slow shutterspeed and it doesn’t matter.

C-Wick 314 thanks! Are you talking about flying it or carrying it through the house like a hand held gimbal? I definitely wouldn’t recommend flying it through the house!

I was thinking with the size, the blade guards, and having the ability to edit the drone video through the dji app. I'm new with real estate photography and drone photography so your videos have helped me with ideas but didn't know if you have or heard of someone using this drone for video walk through. thanks again for your response.
C-Wick 314 yeah even with the blade guards it’s a risky endeavor and the camera on that drone wouldn’t handle indoors very well with the lower light probably. I’ve seen people flying drones through the house but they are using a very tiny and maneuverable drone. Long story short, I would stick with a handheld option for walkthrough videos.
I'm just starting out in video and have a silly question I'm sure, in between shots are you pausing the camera and unpausing it to continue on to the next shot? Thanks, Mike!
I don’t concern myself with straight verticals when shooting video. It’s a whole different thing than photos as far as I’m concerned. When you’re walking around with a gimbal there’s no way you are going to keep it perfectly level anyway
Thomas Peeler I wouldn’t recommend it because what will happen is you’ll have white balance shifting in the middle of your shots and you’ll have a nightmare on your hands trying to correct that in post. For outdoor shots you’ll probably be fine with auto because the lighting is pretty consistent.
So I live in upstate NY. And I’m trying to get into real estate videos I’m a freelance videographer with some experience in shooting music videos. The agents in my area are old school and don’t really have social media. So what should bd my pitch when looking for agents to shoot videos for?
Most agents will go to their photographers for videos so it’s very difficult to only do real estate videos. Doing photos is your in. All agents need photos first and foremost and will add on videos if they need so my suggestion would be to get into the photo side of things as well and land clients that way. Don’t want to sound discouraging but unfortunately that’s nature of the business. I’m not really aware of anyone that solely does video for real estate.

I always face the problem of a small space, the rooms on the yachts are very small and especially the bathrooms. Really difficult to film them. Will it fit for filming GoPro 9? GoPro give wider panorama and good stabilization during yacht trips. Share please your professional opinion. Thank you.
Love this - can I ask where you get music for a real estate video shoot? I'm assuming you most own some kind of license for the songs you use if you're selling a video to a client. Do you purchase a few songs and reuse them or do you use a different song every time?

From what I’ve seen the footage isn’t too great from that camera. I would certainly test it out and make a video though if I can get my hands on one!

Just wondering if you ever find yourself needing any sort of video light to help balance the light or brighten up dark rooms?
For real estate videos like this that need to be shot quickly I solely rely on available light.
A full video just on camera settings would be nice. For some reason i can not change my schutterspeed and my aperture. I can only do that in M mode.

Yes as long as you’re using manual focus. I usually stand in the room and get my focus then walk out and record the shot as I enter.

It’s something to be aware of and keep your eye on for sure. That’s why I always have focus peaking on so I’m aware of what’s in focus.

You may find it a bit of a struggle with 16mm to get wide enough shots in some scenarios. It would definitely be a little difficult.

Hi! Thanks. If you are shooting in a log profile then I think a LUT can be very useful but if you are shooting in a more standard profile then no.

Thanks! I just take the handle off and put both sections in a backpack. Just put the handle back on when it’s time to shoot, no balancing necessary!

Hmm I’m not sure what you are referring to. Ive never seen a dial for frame rate. What camera are you using?
Should you not use an Aperture of F6 or more? Why is it at a 2.8 for a wide focus setting?
If you’re using an aperture that high for video inside then your iso would have to be extremely high which would result in a noisy, less quality image. You can do it for photos on tripod since you can have a really slow shutterspeed and it doesn’t matter.
@@InsideRealEstatePhotography oh yeah I understand that. But for video specifically why a 2.8 when your subject is so wide? Is the trick to focus on the wall and everything will come out looking focus?

Nice video! It was very helpful. I noticed that you don't get too bogged down with verticals being parallel like when shooting stills in real estate. Is that not as big of a deal in video?

From your video, I can see you use PP1 picture profile and the video quality is very good but the windows is a little bit overexpose. You said log is a better way but it cost much more time. Hey Mike, I have been wondering for a while now whether you shoot any exterior real estate videos using the gimbal and camera setup or do you usually shoot exteriors using a drone? Can't find any video on that having watched almost all of them.
I have the same equipment but my videos do not look like that. Why? It’s so clear and crisp and the colors pop. Mine is dark and no so crisp

I was thinking with the size, the blade guards, and having the ability to edit the drone video through the dji app. I'm new with real estate photography and drone photography so your videos have helped me with ideas but didn't know if you have or heard of someone using this drone for video walk through. thanks again for your response.
C-Wick 314 yeah even with the blade guards it’s a risky endeavor and the camera on that drone wouldn’t handle indoors very well with the lower light probably. I’ve seen people flying drones through the house but they are using a very tiny and maneuverable drone. Long story short, I would stick with a handheld option for walkthrough videos.
What do you think of the Tamron 17-28mm 2.8 for video and less $$?

Looks like the camera is tilted down slightly which causes the lines to not be straight in doorways etc. Is this intentional?
I don’t concern myself with straight verticals when shooting video. It’s a whole different thing than photos as far as I’m concerned. When you’re walking around with a gimbal there’s no way you are going to keep it perfectly level anyway
To save time on site, how do you feel about shooting auto white balance and editing it in post if there are inconsistencies?
Thomas Peeler I wouldn’t recommend it because what will happen is you’ll have white balance shifting in the middle of your shots and you’ll have a nightmare on your hands trying to correct that in post. For outdoor shots you’ll probably be fine with auto because the lighting is pretty consistent.
So I live in upstate NY. And I’m trying to get into real estate videos I’m a freelance videographer with some experience in shooting music videos. The agents in my area are old school and don’t really have social media. So what should bd my pitch when looking for agents to shoot videos for?
Most agents will go to their photographers for videos so it’s very difficult to only do real estate videos. Doing photos is your in. All agents need photos first and foremost and will add on videos if they need so my suggestion would be to get into the photo side of things as well and land clients that way. Don’t want to sound discouraging but unfortunately that’s nature of the business. I’m not really aware of anyone that solely does video for real estate.
Hello. Thank you very much for the video and the information you need. I work as a yacht sales representative. A beginner in photography and video filming. I always face the problem of a small space, the rooms on the yachts are very small and especially the bathrooms. Really difficult to film them. Will it fit for filming GoPro 9? GoPro give wider panorama and good stabilization during yacht trips. Share please your professional opinion. Thank you.
Love this - can I ask where you get music for a real estate video shoot? I'm assuming you most own some kind of license for the songs you use if you're selling a video to a client. Do you purchase a few songs and reuse them or do you use a different song every time?
