  • Maybe I'm freaking out for nothing but for the cost of the machine having it fail so soon after purchase really bothers me. Harvest right is the best Freeze dryer on the market and best option for preserving food aside from canning.
    Let me know in the comments if I'm overreacting.

    Thank you for sharing your story. There are many people out here who are unhappy with Harvest Right. I used my HR freeze dryer with no problems for years until they sent out an email saying to update firmware. The firmware left my machine not functioning at all! There was nothing wrong with my machine before the update. Multiple calls and emails to "tech" and still no resolution. They would not admit that they caused the problem. Curiously, their website now has their repair fees posted so a tech can help you be your own repair person via telephone guidance. The other option is to ship your 200+ pound unit to the other side of the country at your expense for them to physically repair it for additional fees. There are no authorized repair people outside the state of Utah. It kind of feels like planned obsolescence in my opinion. I am currently working on my own review video this week. Most HR people are helpful and nice, but be careful of hateful trolls in the HR forums who gaslight you with comments that you misused the machine, did not maintain it or don't know what you are talking about. HR has problems. Check out the BBB for HR in Utah. You are not alone.

    Mine was just delivered this past Wednesday. I have to say, I had a terrible experience with customer service. We were on the 9th week of me waiting for my unit. I had been reading about people getting their unit within 3-6 weeks of ordering, and here I am 9 weeks in and nothing. I called twice to get an ETA and each time I was told “2 more weeks.” Well, I got pretty tired of hearing the same old story. So the third time I called I told them that I was not going to hang up until I had an answer as to what the problem was and why there was such a long delay. The customer service guy immediately transferred me to accounting, saying there is a problem with my account. Well my call went into voicemail so I wasn’t able to speak to anybody. So I called back and demanded an answer because I was tired of the run around. So the customer service guy actually looked at my account and discovered that I had a balance of $108.25 that I didn’t even know about. We figured out what happened. The account manager never charged me the extra hundred dollars that it cost for the stainless steel model. So my account was sitting there with a balance that I didn’t know of and nobody bothered to look the first two times that I called. So I immediately paid the balance and it was shipped out the very next business day, which was a Monday. After many instances with FedEx freight, I finally got my unit a week and a half after it was shipped. I had issues right off the bat with my unit. And of course tech-support sent the videos and I had to take my unit apart and try to troubleshoot it myself. I’m sorry, but with the price of these machines they should have service technicians all over the United States and wherever else they sell them. So after about two hours of sheer frustration, I emailed the technician and asked him to call me. He walked me through the troubleshooting and we finally got my unit to work. So right now I am going through the bread run, and my fingers are crossed that I don’t run into any more issues, because I’m about ready to throat punch someone at Harvest Right!

      I fix the real machines for a living and service for those is very expensive @ 165 buck an hour and I charge a minimum of 2 hours just to get there, now those machines are very simple overall, they only have a single compressor and use a very common refrigerant, R410A, simple metering device, any refrigeration technician should be able to work on it. The correct name for this kind of machine is lyophilizer. Good luck

    • @dumahh
      @dumahh Рік тому +1

      To be honest I don't have any experience with harvest right machines so I cannot tell you if they are reliable or not, I work in the biofarma industry and the old machines are very reliable but the new ones they fail out of the box, 2 weeks ago I was with a customer that bought a 1.5 million lyophilizer a year ago and they had a bunch of issues since day 1, that last time I spent 4 days fixing the machine working overtime and double time because the lyo failed in the middle of a run and the lyo was still under warranty but they don't work on weekends or after hours so I took care of that and the customer had to pay out of pocket that repair. So don't feel soo bad, and for what I read in the comments a lot of people is having a ton of multiple issues, they are the pioneers of the normal consumer market so I'm assuming they are not prepared for having that many issues but the beauty of those machines are that they are dead simple and any refrigeration guy can fix them as long is not a control issue. In my industry you have to be an engineer level to be able to work with lyophilizers.

    Thanks for sharing your experience. I can’t afford a freeze dryer and even if I could I don’t want the migraine headache that clearly occurs if you own one. What irks me more than anything are the homesteaders on UA-cam who have been given a freeze dryer by the manufacturer. Any time they have a segment in their video about freeze drying I fast forward it or if they have an entire video on freeze drying I won’t watch any of it. There is one homesteader that I know of on UA-cam - Heidi from Rain Country - who refused a freeze dryer from a manufacturer. Mass respect for her for not accepting their offer. Clearly the people who have been gifted a freeze dryer from the manufacturer are not in a position to give honest reviews.

    Yeah I feel for you Bud on this Harvest Right machine. I am just letting people know about the shotty company that Harvest Right is. We bought the large and with having the wiring put in buying a cart to put the Harvest Right on the whole shebang cost us over $4500. It worked for two years then shut down and Harvest Right has still not done anything to fix it. We even shipped it back to them to fix it they sent it back to us with the same problem and a new one on top of it. As of now August 2023 we are sailing into the 11th month of this thing not working and still not getting help from Harvest Right they’ve got big issues I would never recommend buying and Harvest Right.

    I bought the medium freeze dryer with oil free pump in 2020. Less than a year after purchasing it it started having problems. I didn't realize it until right after the warranty had ran out though. There is something wrong with the pump and the HR "tech" said that the manufacturer won't let them work on those pumps. So now I have to fix it or find someone locally to repair it. I am so pissed, after spending that much money, and wish I had never bought this thing! You're correct, with the price we pay for these freeze dryers they should last much longer before going out and having issues. 😡

After getting it hooked up it will not freeze. The compressor comes on for a sec and then goes off. I called their "Customer support" concerning this BRAND NEW unit and was asked to send log files so a tech could call me back NEXT WEEK! 2 you buy a brand new car and it leaks oil from the oil pan the manufacturer tells you to buy silicone rtv at autozone remove the oil pan clean up the old gasket material reapply the new stuff and reinstall the oil pan do you say that's normal or do you say how about you fix this issue or give me another car or my money back

      @Womp Daddy you call harvest right support amd they get you to pore 1 cup of water per tray and you freeze it in your machine. Then you take pictures and send it to harvest right. Then they determined the machine had a condenser problem or freeon leak. They told me to package up the unit they sent packing material. While we waited on that we was running candy mode and a few days later the screen quit working. So we decided to just get a refund. Because if these machines have this many problems we cant handle the hastle. When fedex picks up the machine you have to stay at your house between 1 and 5 waiting for them to pick up and vise versa when they send the unit back

      Although I am sure that not everyone is as smart as you, I do think that people understand that machines break. They refused to help me without payment up front, even though my part was still supposed to be covered. When they finally said they would cover it they wanted me to pay $378 in shipping to send it to them. That is not a warranty, that is bad business.
