- What a day!
Hard to believe that after detecting this field for 22 years it goes and gives up a gold coin for Pete today. I wonder how many times we’ve passed over it and missed it over the years.
Triple silver too and a new microphone system for my channel!
#metaldetecting #metaldetectinguk #xpdeus2 #thescottishdetectorist #xpdeusii #treasurehunting #detecting #metaldetectingscotland #goldcoin #goldtreasure
The new microphone has done a great job. Well done Pete.
Thanks Stephen.
I’m glad you notice the difference and hopefully this will improve the audio!!
In 1920 the silver content dropped to 50% so all coins before that date were 92.5 pure silver after that date they became 50%then in 1947 they all became cupronickle.great gold coin a moment that he won't ever forget.great channel and the new mic spot on bud 💪💪💪💪
Many thanks!! Always forget the dates!! Much appreciated
Definitely. I found several of these coins on the beach in Boulogne/Mer.
@@marinoceccotti9155 thanks Marino

Hi Jennifer. Yes, Pete was on fire! He’s really getting to grips with his XP DEUS II! Which is a shame as now there’s less for me to find 😂
Great finds today gold coin and silver what more could ask for fantastic days detecting that
lead piece with the letter R on it could well be a communion token I found one years ago
made of lead in a field where a church once stood , great video ☝
Glad you enjoyed Frank and you’re right, a communion token never occurred to me! Thanks I’ll look that one up!
Hi John, your new mic is the business! Cracking gold coin, a real Bobby Dazzler.
Thanks Stephen! Appreciate the feedback. Pete slept with the coin under his pillow last night 😂
Great video, the new mic is spot on. Congrats to Pete on his superb Gold Half Sovereign 👏👍

Also that silver you found was a good find!
Many thanks! A great days hunting!!
That mic is going to be the difference maker, especially with the winds of Scotland. Congratulations to Sneaky Pete too!
Many thanks James. Glad it seems I’ve finally got the technology
the day belongs to pete what a coin ,
Yes James. Petes been on steroids recently and is really getting to grips with his XP DEUS II!! I’m very happy for him as he had a spell of three or so months finding heehaw (nothing!) and then it all seemed to turn at Detectival in September and then boom 💥 find after find!
1920 for the last year if sterling silver. 50% up to 1947. Loving your channel
Many thanks!! See you on the next!
Congratulations to Sneaky Pete , he was on fire today .. with finding the toothbrush and that Victoria shield half sovereign looked to be in almost new condition... maybe lost shortly after it was minted...
You clearly have some good land to detect with ..
Thanks Chris.
An epic day and so happy for Pete! And reunited with my toothbrush 🪥 couldn’t be happier 😛
@@thescottishdetectorist I have to say , I watch quite a few detectorists on UA-cam , but you guys are the best for sure.. keep up the good work...
@@chrisb.h4605 much appreciated Chris!!
Great video.
Congratulations to Pete on his first gold find. Still waiting for my first gold find eight years in.
You need to get yourselves up to the gold fields of Perthshire Gary! 😆
@@thescottishdetectoristagreed. Is that an invitation? 😂👍
The new mic instantly dropped all wind and background noises out, 10x better 👍🏻👍🏻
Excellent! I love it when technology works!!
Congratulations on your Gold Button Top! 😆 that made me chuckle. Proper Congratulations to Pete for sneaking in that gold! Top mic that! I've got a tascam set up, i dont use it because the wire for my boya mic does my heed in lol
What a difference not having cables for the microphone…. I’m now hands free!! 🤩 thank god!
What does one say when a fellow metal detectorist hits the grand prize of this hobby! Congratulations to your detecting friend!!!!
Looks like a horse rosette back. They are usually lead filled. Way too go Pete. Sneaky and all!
Awesome
Wingsandbeaks~Kind sir, JOO-ell-ree. As in, I hope you find some Edwardian JOO-ell-ree. Congrats on the two silver pieces. The gold coin was beautiful. Good to see Lexi. Great day. Thanks for sharing.
Many thanks Mary. A great days hunting!!
Congrats on the gold coin find. Awesome
Thanks Michael
Well done Pete. First bit of gold must feel very special 🤩
He’s probably sleeping with it under his pillow tonight 😂
lovely half sovey well done
Many thanks…. That sneaky Pete …. He was over the moon!
Hi John, 2 thumbs up on the new microphone! I’m an audio engineer with a recording studio and can tell you it sounds very good! Especially if there was some wind today because you couldn’t really hear it. Great day on the fields, I think Pete is in for the long haul after today!
Thanks Greg! Glad you enjoyed. Here’s hoping the new mic works out!! Looking forward to a challenging days weather to put it really to the test!
That's pretty cool. 😎 Happy Hunting, from AMERICA!
Many thanks 😊
I woke the wife up laughing at Pete's toothbrush find. I won't repeat what she said when I told her the good news!
Haha. Ooops, sorry Jeff
Great voice quality. Sneaky Pete's not so sneaky no more
Many thanks Don. Appreciate you taking the time to give feedback. See you on the next!
Not a bad day out, at all.! Enjoyed that. Shout out to sneaky Pete, getting a first gold.! Bless up bro 👊
Thanks Nick. Yes a great day for Pete and a find he’ll never forget!
Congratulations Pete!
Really interesting that the half sovereign flips like our American coins do.
Great silvers and a happy toothbrush return for you today!
Ps- The new microphone sounds wonderful.
Try a piece of duct tape over the speaker on the “carrot” to quiet it down a bit. I didn’t like how loud it was and the tape helps keep the mud and water away as a bonus.
Cheers from Pennsylvania, USA (again)!
Thanks for the feedback Dennis! Glad you enjoyed. I’ll look out the duct tape!
John, This is what I use: Neewer Portable 56 inches/142 centimeters Aluminum Camera Tripod
Thanks Mr C. I’ve tracked it down on Amazon! Much appreciated
@@thescottishdetectorist I've given you a little boost on my community page
The Arrr could be Pirate treasure. 😆Well done sneaky Pete.
Haha 🏴☠️ 😛
Well done Pete on the gold 🤩 I reckon the R is a token for pirates 🤣 great video as always
Haha 😂 🏴☠️ one eyed willies treasure here we come….. arrrrrrrrrrr ☠️

Good job Pete on the gold. The brush found it's way back to you and a few other silvers. I say you couldn't have had a better day unless y'all found a hoard. Until the next Godbless you fellas
Many thanks James. So happy for Pete. He’s made me proud 🥲
Popping a Scotch/Wee Heavy Ale for sneaky Pete's 1st gold coin. Cheerz!
Any excuse! 😂 🎉 🕺 enjoy!! I’m sure Pete will be doing the same tonight
thanks for another great vid gold what a day
Pete is a very happy man. When he found it the scream and dancing around was epic. Didn’t know he had it in him 😂
Great half sovereign Pete 👍
My first video but the mic was perfect and I'm subbed 👍
Welcome aboard and I’m glad the sound was good. Glad I’ve hopefully finally got things sorted with decent audio!
The half sovereign gold coin young head Queen Victoria is nice to look upon and exciting. Beautiful coin and near impossible to detect and dig up
A beauty of a coin Jeffrey!! So happy for him… the Swine 😂
Always really enjoy your videos - brilliant! Do you mind sharing the settings you use with your Deus II as I’ve just bought one (Lite with WS6 module) and I’m looking for some help with settings to get me up and running! Many thanks Simon
Well done on the purchase Simon. It’s like a wand!!
I go with Programme 3 sensi FT most of the time and all I do is change to square tones and sometimes run sensitivity at 90. Air and ground balance and grab and off!!
Happy hunting
@@thescottishdetectorist great many thanks I’ll give that a try. Keep up the good work 🙂
Excellent finds
Many thanks Harold. See you on the next!
mic seems good. well done pete!
Many thanks, see you on the bext
New mic seems well worth it's money and I don't even know what you spent. Is it wireless to a Go Pro? I just bought a MOVO mic with Dead Cat after wind almost ruined one of my hunts! I had to do a voice over for part of mine it got so bad. Super huge congrats to Pete for the gold. I've yet to find anything gold. Would love to hunt a field that had items as old as the ones you found. New sub.
Welcome aboard!! I invested in a DJI wireless mic and I have to say it is fantastic so far!! Really really good quality piece of kit and has been a game changer for me
Brilliant gold from Pete. Could the thin, round lead piece, at 28mins, be part of a ''pot mend''?? Cheers, John.
Thanks John. Petes a happy man! The lead bit at 28m has a circle design on it which makes me think it’s fairly modern
Beautiful gold coin 😊
Many thanks! Pete is a happy man!!
The tinned strap you recovered, is the older version of what we here in America call a 'zip tie', used for all kinds of purposes, such as bundling electrical wire runs on farm machinery or automobiles. Cheers from Texas!
Many thanks for the info Mike. Know I’d seen it somewhere before
Well done Pete for the gold coin. I've been detecting 30 years and never had a gold coin. The round lead item could be a pot mend.
Thanks Simon…. Keep hunting for that gold!!
Well done Pete 😀 your a lucky lot 😊
Thanks Jane. Just shows you how much treasure is out there!!
I found a few examples of Pete's coin for sale on line, and they range from about $500 to $1000 U.S. depending on condition. Good on ya Sneaky Pete, me boy!!!!!!! And Lexie the LUCKY WONDER DOG!!!!!!!
Thanks Anthony. Yes, I think it’s a lot more available than the half sovereigns I found. Really good day!
Gold! Now another for you.
I live in hope 🤞
Love the videos mate ! I’m looking to upgrade my detector I’ve been detecting for five or six months now and want something a bit more up market but not stupidly complicated what would you recommend
Cheers mate
Many thanks.
Where abouts in the world are you detecting? What sort of land and what era of finds do you think would be around to find? Or at least hope to find?
I have to say having had the XP Goldmaxx power V4 and then the XP DEUS II they are great machines and fantastic at finding small targets and silver. Even better you can run with basic programmes on the XP DEUS II Orr tweet it until your hearts content!
I’ve had several detectors from Regton and they’ve always given really good advice so I’d say give them a shout.
Garrett also do good machines, but beyond that I don’t have much experience of other models thought the Minelab equinox seems very popular.
Happy hunting!! And don’t get something you need a computer degree to operate, I made that mistake once and never again!
I’m detecting on all different lane mainly pasture I’ve found coins dating back to George the 1st 1721 on my main permission if the deus isn’t to complicated I think I’m going to go for that!
Here's a story that you might find amusing.
I used to work as a relief mechanic on lifeboats, to cover for when people were sick or had family commitments.
At one station in Scotland a crew member had a couple of metal detectors so off we went to find our fortune. After about half an hour I started to get some beeps but it wasn't the detector, it was my pager! We had to run off the potato field and launch the lifeboat!
Luckily no one was harmed.
Oh no!! Well done!
Sounds great! And congratulations Pete!
Thanks Jake
What do you do with all your buttons? I have hundreds of them. Surely they should be given some sort of recognition. I’ve some belters
Nice 1 shilling coin. You know more than me but 1922 contained 50% silver as 1919 was final year of .925 silver content. Nice find and a nice designed coin
Thanks for the info Jeffrey!!
What a find for Pete, well done 👍 i wonder what that coin would have bought you in 1853? just got my first detector a vanquish 540, does anyone know of any clubs or meet ups in north west England or north wales? The local council say it’s illegal in parks and on beaches here which is a bit shit.
Hi Danny. As far as I was aware all beaches were detectible so not sure about that one. I’m sure there’ll be a club or regular dig in your area. Join a few Facebook detecting groups and I’m sure you’ll track them down
👍way to go sneaky Pete 👍
Aye, he couldn’t keep his excitement restrained this time though, he was practically cartwheeling 🤸♀️ across the field 😂
Lol
New Mic is great. Half sovereign is very interesting. In the US we had 1 dollar 3 dollar 10 dollar and 20 dollar gold coins. The half sovereign would be just a bit smaller than a $3 US gold coin. I didn't know that Scots could pronounce the "R" without rolling the tongue....hmmmm, Learn all kinds of stuff on your channel.
Many thanks Hans. See you on the next dig!!
Mic sounds fine!
The lead item at 26:00 minutes in is probably a Church Token from Redgorton Parish Church. Great find even better than the gold coin.
That would be great. Any ideas where I can see a similar looking one online Alistair?
@@thescottishdetectorist I have a few catalogues which display communion tokens. I have no idea how I can get them to you though.
Nice job Pete😁🤜🏻
Aye, he’s still smiling
You shouting out to (former friend) Pete: WTF?! Hey you! Yeah you!! Put that BACK!! This is my field!! My permit!!
I’ve warned you, only buttons and bag seals for you. You’re not allowed a gold coin for another nineteen years. 😜
Let me check your Deus. Yep you went to my settings again. That’s a no no and you know it!😉
Congratulations Peter and gold luck to you all.
The boys on steroids. I much preferred him when all he found was lead, iron and tinfoil!!
@@thescottishdetectorist Can’t have him picking your field clean oh master. 😉
I hope to grow up and get a gold coin as well someday…lol!
Haha …. Give it time!
Its 925 George V Silver Coin. It means that It contains 92,50% of silver, its quite 100% pure silver Coin. Great hit!
Just had a google it myself, 1920-46 silver coins contained only 50% purity. And before 1919 and before would have been sterling silver (92.5%)
Thanks Joe. I’m always forgetting!!
well done pete beer token on you haha
Thanks Alan. Yes he’s a happy man!
Puppies smelling Petes feet through his boots. Boy better wash those dogs. LOL. Congrats on the gold coin :)
😂 Lexi the lucky charm! 🍀 strikes again
The new microphone is working well!
Thanks Brian!! Glad to hear it!
Amount of silver and gold coins thrown
Away on schotties fields make me rethink
What i have learned in school! Isn't correct
That a Schot is cheap, theire has just lost
All their money in their fields 😵Hup.
New micro working well. A tripod depends
How you use it to be a good idea.😜🔝❤️
Thanks Toni. I’m amazed at the amount of coins we turn up but silver abounds and I’m beginning to think there’s a gold coin in every field in Perthshire!! I’m hoping next gold is a Roman!!
I wonder if Sneaky Pete is related to my workmate, Sad Pete, who men sometimes nickname Whiny Pete ?.
I’ve never seen Pete sad or whiny, but maybe a distant cousin!!
@@thescottishdetectorist First day back at work after Auckland's 5 week lock down. We were talking about what we could do now, wondering where we could go fish off a beach and stay within the rules, the absolutely horrible drinking problems we had all developed . . .
Pete : All my lettuce seedlings got eaten by snails.
First thing he had said to any of us for more than a month. Everyone stared to laugh and we couldn't stop. Even he smiled for a moment.
:)
Wasn't there a King Ralph recently? No? Sounds familiar, but...I don't know. Could that round piece of lead be a toy pocket watch? Or something to that effect? Did they have those back then for kids? Just a thought.
I think King Ralph was a movie starring the guy from Roseanne 😂 it could be a lead watch part, Marty got a lead kids watch in this field last week!
Well done Pete! For us Yanks, please explain what “half -crown” and “gold sovereign “ mean please.
Thanks Hammer! Pete still delighted.
It’s all a bit before my time as I’m a decimal child but back in the ‘older days’ one pound was 240 pence.
A half crown was two shillings and sixpence which was 2 x 12 pence plus 6 pence = 30 pence or an eighth of a pound.
A half sovereign was worth ten shillings which was 120 pence or half a pound - so 50 pence in modern standards or half a pound per- decimal….. a system that always confuses me 😂
yes a tripod will be nice, save me getting dizzy. but worth it to still watch your videos.
Thanks Roy! I’ll definitely be giving it a go!!
Mic seems to be working real fine so far. No wind noise at all.
They made 2 types on the 1853 half sovereign....type 1 has large date font type 2 small date font....type 1 is worth more in value...👍
Thanks for the info Scott. Any idea which this one is? Thanks
@@thescottishdetectorist it looks like.the large date mate yippee....🤣👍
@@scottwoolner4698 yipeeee 🥳 thanks
Well hello Mr. Meoff how you doing Jack??
R for me!
Rrrrrrr x
use have got more gold coins now than the royal mint 🤑
Funny you say that Alan because when the camera was off that’s exactly what we were discussing! Two half sovereigns off one field, a noble off another, a half sovereign off this one and a few years back I took a beginner out and he found a full sovereign on another field!
I’m beginning to think there’s a gold coin in almost every field in Perthshire 😂
I hope we are right 😆
Seems Britannarium means king of the British Territories
Thanks for that, kept meaning to google it!! But you’ve saved me the effort
@@thescottishdetectorist your very welcome :)
A shilling went from 12 Old Pence to 5 New Pence.
10 new pence for shilling
Thanks for the info
CURIOVS GEORIVS xD
Thanks Mike
I've not found gold in 45 years!
Well it’ll happen eventually I’m sure!
A shilling is 5pence not 10 mate
Look like a thing
Congratulations 1
Many thanks 😊
I found a trade token here in new zealand yesterday with prince albert on the back! "S Hague Smith Ironmongers" 1861-1864 😁
Well found!! Best wishes abs happy hunting Jake
