    Great review, Thank you. I’m just starting out one again in the world of brass after many years of not playing and I was wanting a mute so not to upset the neighbours so much at this early stage of returning to play! And after watching your video I’ve just placed an order but they are as rare as hens teeth in the U.K. at the moment so many stores are sold out and some are on waiting lists up to four weeks but happy days I’ve secured one. They do cost a few beer tokens don’t they? but they do seem quality.

    Thank you for the great video. Do you think this mute will fit the bell-front baritone King 625? Greetings from Poland

      haha, Thanks! I was about to film that part and then realized I hadn't selected anything to play so I just played the first thing that came to mind.

      Really nice piece. I was going to play that for an audition, but my euphonium teacher and I agreed on andante by capuzzi instead.

      That is a great piece as well. I've never performed either but I have worked with so many students on both of them that I almost have them memorized haha.

    Hey Aaron, we met at bbcf. I wanted to ask about some comparisons between the denis wick and yamaha silent brass mutes:
    1) difference in weight
    2) better silencer
    3) air resistance
    Not sure if you've tried the yamaha, but thought I'd ask to get another euph player's input on the two mutes and their comparisons.
    Thank you for your videos, and hope to perform with you soon.
    (btw, I'm a huge fan of curnow's rhapsody too!)

      @AKCEuph  6 років тому

      Hey James,
      So this denis wick mute is much smaller and lighter than the silent brass. It is also a bit more resistant due to its compact size. both are similar in terms of soft.
      The mute in this review is really for travel, while the main purpose of the silent brass is to be able to wear headphones and listen back to the horn through those headphones.
      Hope this helps.

    I have the mute and I love it. I got it for the same reason as you (using it as a regular practice mute and to use it not to bother other people). Off topic question, where would you say the best place to find a good used professional euphonium is? I check ebay every so often and I check Tuba Exchange as well, but beyond that it's just hard to find a good marketplace where the prices are pretty decent. Thanks for reading.

      Hey Ethan,
      You're already doing the best things for finding a horn. You can also get some good deals from vendors at conferences if you have money in hand. Euphoniums are not cheap, and if they are they probably play that way as well.
      Dave Werden also has a Euphonium Facebook page as well where people may list if they are selling....facebook.com/groups/173045206052729/
      Happy hunting

    I’m assuming this mute won’t fit an oval euphonium. Do you have any suggestions for what would?

    Hey Aaron,
    does this mute fit into a Tenor-Horn?
    And if not are there any mutes you could recommend wich fit inside an Euphonium and a Tenor-Horn?

    • @AKCEuph
      @AKCEuph  5 років тому

      Robin Roch I haven’t personally tested that exact instrument but I have tried to put it into a British baritone and the mute was too large.
      Hope that helps

      I remember them starting to have their travel practice mutes for different instruments. For Trombone for sure. Perhaps they have already for Tenor horn.

    Does the pitch remain the same?

    • @AKCEuph
      @AKCEuph  4 місяці тому

      Pitches stay the same, it doesn't throw you into a new key suddenly like some mutes. However, the intonation does get a little squirrly.
      The larger black practice mute is an overall better experience, but the portability is just so good with the travel mute.

    Hello, great review! Just discovered your channel and am subscribing. I have a question for you, somewhat regarding this mute.
    I'm a casual player. I'd love to be more, but it's not in the cards for me. As such, I play a few times a year, mostly subbing when needed with the local municipal band for the weekly summer concerts (www.dekalbmunicipalband.com). I don't get to practice often, but when I get the call up, I need to shake the cobwebs off and here in lies the problem. I live in a townhouse with neighbors on both sides of my unit. I also have 2 younger kids. Optimal time for me to practice would be after they go to bed. This mute sounds like a great solution, but I'm cheap. I already own the dw5513 and for a casual player, owning two euphonium mutes sounds like a ridiculous concept.
    So now (finally) my question. Do you notice a considerable difference in the volume between the regular straight mute and the practice mute?
    I'm considering getting a sheet of foam to place around the mute I have in the meantime, just to see if it works or completely kills the intonation. Thanks for any guidance you can provide.

    • @AKCEuph
      @AKCEuph  7 років тому +1

      Hey! Yes a practice mute is WAY quieter than a normal straight mute. This particular mute is also perfect for apartment or close quarters living. I used a practice mute the whole time I lived in an apartment, and I use this mute now when my g/f is asleep while it's late/early but I still need to practice.
      Hope this helps! Thanks for subscribing.
