    I appreciate your point about “immaculate” housing…the need to keep the cage clean never seems talked about. I am amazed at the number of YT videos posted by parrot lovers that show filthy cages…poop everywhere. If it were a dog or cat, that would be considered neglect. Aside from being unsanitary, it is very unnatural for parrots to live in their own filth.❤️

    Once again, this is an awesome video. I do have a couple questions about Sleep I am fully aware that my birds need 10 to 12 hours sleep but Dave mentioned that is not good to give your bird too much sleep. What is considered too much sleep? Sometimes my birds don’t make a peep until they’ve been in their sleep room for 13+ hours. Is that too much sleep? I think you can relate to the annoying noise that my bird makes. I have an INR that squawks on a daily basis. If I can talk him into talking words instead of squawking it’s much easier on the ears but lately that hasn’t been the case. He just squawks.I absolutely love the chemistry between you two. So cute.

    I love your rants about diet Jamie! It's not even just birds, heck even our diets are crap. Diet is the foundation of everything. You may enjoy what you eat but your body doesn't, just because you or they liked it doesn't mean it's good for them. Otherwise I could have red vines all the time and be happy XD

    just a note on diet. I follow your seasonal feeding system with my 2 year old Indian ringneck but when I first started I has a hard time storing it in small enough portions since he is my only bird. then I found a hack to freeze the chop in ice cube trays then once frozen I transfer them to a freezer bag and can thaw just one cube at a time. it really helps with the portion control and not having a bunch going bad in the fridge because I thawed to much.

    Actually, I’d love to see/hear the conures. 😁❤️My bird’s most annoying sound is this soft little chirp/chortle. The sound itself isn’t annoying. What’s annoying is that he only makes it when he’s doing/chewing something he shouldn’t. And It’s only annoying when I’m in the middle of something and I have to stop and distract him, because naturally he doesn’t want to be distracted. Typical child. 😆😜 Honestly, I’d love a ‘day in the life’ type video. I know everyday is different, but it would still be interesting. 😊

    1. I offer 10-12 hours in a dark room with black out curtains and I cover his cage too. 2. Cheekie the Conure eats Tops pellets and Harrison’s high potency since he’s only 11 weeks old. He gets daily chop that includes, kohlrabi, carrots, red bell peppers, sometimes corn, and cucumbers daily with chia seeds. Strawberries and walnuts on special occasions such as training. 3. I have my cage about 6-7 ft from the window, I don’t get direct sun but the sunlight still lights up the whole room, I leave the window open (screened) so UVB can come into the room. 4. I let him free room for 2, 2 hour sessions each day! 5. He’s barley 2.5 months old, but he loves to step up for me, mostly when I have millet… but still. 6. He gets weighed every morning (IN GRAMS!) He’s used to me doing it daily, I record these numbers in a journal and average his weekly weight to make sure he isn’t gaining/losing 10%. 7. He has several foraging toys and so many chew toys I can barley count. He’s obsessed with yucca yucca kabobs! 8. I have a huge variety of woods, textures and different materials that he can chew or play with. 9. I change his cage paper daily and change his water 2-3 times a day. He gets fresh chop each morning and pellet mix. Once a week I do a deep clean and wipe down the whole cage with poop-off and sweep all his seeds off the floor lol…..

    You two are adorable! Thanks for the hi-quality instructions. You have a fun & gentle way about addressing a very serious issue in this UA-cam Bird World...Like where you should NEVER “pet” your bird (hormone stim). This seems to be the most difficult thing for people to learn because they continue to do it. Then, the bird “ loves them”...Next thing you know, the bird is biting your face off as you go to smother him in kisses again. Birdie is scolded on the beak & locked in cage to “ learn a lesson”. And wonder why he starts to pluck; or bite. Please keep up the great work & point out the things you see in the vids that can help birdie & owner! 🦜😊 Oh, and PS: you have the best music!

    Thanks so much for sharing this. My cockatoo is finally eating your seasonal food mix (after several weeks of ‘sort-of’ eating it he now has it all over his beak. He likes it more when beets are in the mix as his favourite colour is red or any shade of red ♥️ He was leaving it more when i tried the autumn mix. Another good point was housing. I have had soooo many custom aviary builders cancel on me lately and want to build without doing a site visit. This concerns me as my bird’s current daytime aviary is rusting to the point I have to leave him inside when I’m not home. Mum and Dad have keys to my house when I am at work and they found he had climbed thru the water bowl area which he destroyed totally and unlocked the screw to climb out. Surprisingly all of my training worked as Dad asked him to station in the aviary whilst he repaired it before I got home from work. He really is an angel when he wants to be. New aviary arrived but was damaged majorly in transit and it took forever to get here!! So I am now hoping I can convince my Dad to learn these handyman building skills in his retirement but he said he can’t learn new tricks🤣 🙌 no wonder my bird loves him 🥰😍 seriously though the housing habit in this video is soooo important. I can’t let my bird outside atm without full supervision until this issue is sorted and cheap cages are just a Band-Aid solution. A custom built aviary is the best solution. To find the right builder is the most difficult task (in my area that is).

      Honestly this comment is underrated. It sounds like you really love your bird and that you have done so much training and I'm certain you've spent a BUTT-TONN of money for this bird. Sometimes cockatoo owners aren't cut out for it and I worry about a lot of cockatoos. Personally Idk if I could deal with one or handle it properly, yet it seems like you may actually legitimately be the perfect cockatoo owner!! I love when things work out like this for them! Hat's off to you! ❤️

    • @TW-iu7gb
      @TW-iu7gb 2 роки тому +1

      @@TaraAndFriends I worry about cockatoos being with unsuited owners too. Thanks for your kind words. I have only achieved a positive outcome recently with my cockatoo’s behaviour because I wasn’t afraid to seek professional help. We’ve still got a long way to go but the journey is the most rewarding. Don’t ever think you can’t handle what you don’t know yet. Sometimes animals choose you. And we don’t know how long any of us have in this lifetime. Remember with every species there are the softies and those with higher barriers and that doesn’t mean they can’t be softies too, it just takes time, understanding and behavioural training. I’m still learning every day ♥️

    I'm guessing I'm at least an average on the bird parent scale. But those were way to easy 7 out of 7. Although I will add one more thing I find helps with birds, well Eclectus Parrots as those are the birds I have been around during my young age of 20 (and the other 20 odd years) my Eclectus Parrots enjoy routine, regular bed times, regular meal times, regular independent time, things like that. They don't like pellets even though we have Eclectus breed specific pellets, but they eat amazing seasonal diets and have years of vet visits and blood tests to reassure my mind. I find it important to encourage independent time so I have less to worry about when I'm away for a few hours. Oh and save money on a home security system, my rescued boy 9yo has a built in home alarm lol 😊

    My birds' most annoying sound is a hormonal one. My female will do this constant, loud, high-pitched cheep when she's in the mood, and sometimes she will do it very consistently throughout the day and drive me nuts. Of course, the 3 boys all learned to imitate it so sometimes they will do it too. x_x It's not that bad, though. My birds are Bourkes and I love their vocalizations otherwise!

    I don’t mind my macaws “talking” kind of like what Comet was doing that you said was super annoying. The one thing that gets me is her full blown screaming for reasons unknown to me. I will be sitting right next to her and she will be contentedly doing something or just chilling and then all the sudden she starts screaming at the top of her lungs (but thankfully it only lasts for a few seconds). Still its nowhere near as annoying and frustrating as the out of the blue no warning biting that I think must be hormone related. I’m putting her in her cage more like you suggested and working with a behaviorist regularly but so far we haven’t made any real progress.

    He loves Chillies but the base of his diet is, Broccoli, Cauliflower, carrots, beans, and peas. I add whatever we have into the mix as well.
    The fruit he has tried are strawberries, apples, pears, and melon. I am slowly going through different fruit with him. He has one wooden toy that he is getting into.

    The most annoying sound I've heard coming from a bird was a tiny dwarf quail that was making this really loud call because his mate had died recently. He would do it morning till night and then also at night sometimes, meaning we lost a lot of sleep. My brother was literally raging at this bird and we had to get rid of him after like a week because my brother threatened to kill the bird. Unbearable, but I also feel sorry for the quail.

    Sunlight IS an issue when you have been stuck with bird flue going rampant these past 2 years...
    (Fowl etc. have been inside for two full years/ IF they stayed alive this long of course/ with only a 3-month break when we had fewer outbreaks, and we hoped it was dying down.) Turns out the only things dying are the birds, wild and domestic!
    So, get a UV-lamp... its not great, but better than losing your bird.

    I bought your pellets for my budgie . I grind it up in a food processor and sprinkle it over his seeds. I don’t think he is getting much though. He does like broccoli which y give him frequently but otherwise he pretty much eats seeds. I don’t know what to do?

    So cute😍. I have 3 Africa greys, 2 boys and a girl. The boys don't seem to get along at all as they fight for Mia's attention so I have to put the away from each other which breaks my heart. Jig and Mars are my sweethearts but they sometimes get into nasty fights that frightens me. I am seriously considering giving out for adoption. Any advice please.

    Hi
    Great video 😁
    But our bird always wants to attack or Bite me 😔 she loves my boyfriend a lot and he is the only person who can touch the bird.
    I am the person who give her food, make toys, clean the cage, and still she bite me. I tried to walk with her outside on a leash and she hurt me so bad. It's hard for me because my friend is working 12h a day and I am with her. Her life would be a lot nicer if she just accept me 😔

    My wife and I live in a 1 bedroom apartment. We've been watching your channel for several months and are considering a parakeet.. After watching this video I'm concerned that it would hard to give our bird 12 hours / day of quiet rest consistently. Can a cage cover be used in situations like this or should we wait until we have space which can be dedicated to the birds cage for rest?

    • @snakytaylor9072
      @snakytaylor9072 2 роки тому +3

      I'd wait
      Cage covers are an option and plenty of people use them but they have downsides the bird could chew on it and ingest the fibers they also can Cause hormonally behaviour as they are in a small dark nest like area

      if you have a travel cage you could put him in at night in a very low traffic area. That could work.

    • @livi6886
      @livi6886 2 роки тому +2

      If you don't have a quiet room to put your bird in at night, don't get a bird. A cover can work to keep light out (although it is not ideal) but it will not keep sound out, and your bird needs dark and quiet at night. My cockatiel sleeps in a small travel cage in my closet with a nightlight, air purifier, and ambient music to prevent night frights, so you may be able to manage this even with a small space but if not, don't get a bird.

    Hello! This may not be the best place to ask for help but I'm really struggling. I just got a lovebird (my first ever bird) 3 days ago. I know it takes time for birds to adjust, so I've given him some space trying to not stress him out. He likes to hide in the cage, so I try leaving the doors wide open while I continue to do my normal everyday thing. Day 2 he stayed on my back all day. From early morning to late night. I thought this was a good sign but I'm pretty sure he only did it to get away from his fear of hands. He's extremely stressed and I think has already begun plucking his feathers. He also hasn't eaten a single thing the 3 days I've had him, and barely ever speaks. When I put him back in his cage he always goes for the back corner and will not move until he is forced out of the spot. I don't know what to do, I've been doing research for years but never expected this. I would greatly appreciate some help because all I want is for him to be happy and comfortable.
    Thank you
    Edit: Hes eating his own poop. He's starved himself to the point where he's eating his poop, if I tell an adult their most likely going to brush it off. He came out of his cage today by himself and willingly came onto my back. Apon closer inspection I've noticed he has dried poop all over his beak and neck. I'm not sure how to help or what to do

      Do you have the same food for him the person you got him from was feeding him
      I wouldn't have him out all day he needs to be in the cage to get use to it part of the day and to rest. I would call the person you got him from for advice. Hope this helps. Any other bird people able to offer advice . Maybe put a small dish of food on the bottom of the cage near him hopefully he'd start picking at it. I even try offering food in my hand to get him to start eating. Was he hand raised is he a baby. Also offer the water dish to him if you haven't seen him drink anything.

    Great video! Only disagree with 2 points. 1st point Variety is key in diet for healthy birds. And second point your bird she never be in cage for huge amounts of time unless its a huge cage like aviary so they cage fly and explore. As a tiny cage for over 12 hours is cruel

    • @zannido3125

      I'm wondering how much you follow this channel....
      Have you seen their seasonal diet?
      They put so much in it that a feeding a day is a variety.
      With the training they get the treats and their pellets the nutrients.
      As for the cage I missed the small cage suggestion.
      Shrugs... the enclosures they have were huge.
      My macaw prefers his smaller cage to sleep in.
      If he isn't in the cage, door closed, lights oy he paces back and forth and starts yelling.
      He came with the cage. I have upgraded it and he stays around the bigger one all day, but night time he is ready for his sleep in his old smaller cage.
