    Mama: “do you want to tell everyone about flight training?!”
    Capri: “no 😊”
    It made me laugh so hard 😂
    I’m here because I have always wanted a bird and have never had one, and I want to make sure I know everything I can find out before I make that commitment (because it’s a long commitment 😅) ❤️

    Bird owner with auditory processing disorder here, this is super duper nosy but I grew up not knowing I had it and am seeing the signs here as your daughter struggles to follow your simple verbal instructions, not at all my business but I wish someone had told my mom to get me assessed when I was your dear daughter’s age so I figure it’s worth dropping a comment to suggest it, I apologize for the overstep as some person online, and maybe you already know, but I’d feel weird not saying something because I have the same issues she has with doing things following habit instead of the explicit instructions given and it caused a nightmare of low self esteem not knowing what was wrong. Sending love to all of you and big thanks for this video!

      I don't think she has that particular disorder. She's just being a young normal kid.

    • @siriuslyconfused1
      @siriuslyconfused1 2 роки тому +14

      @@carolineluckey1559 this is exactly why I didn’t get diagnosed until 25, this stuff can be normal and I’m certainly not diagnosing her, but parents aren’t medical providers and these diagnosis I’ve found such restoration in confidence for understanding didn’t even exist when my mom was young. I’d never diagnose someone online, but it can also never ever hurt to get a child evaluated if they’re struggling with something that comes easy to some kids. Often what we see as normal child and teen behavior and deficits are in fact symptoms, and just like when you don’t know if your child has a cold or allergies you still take them to the doctor, we should have the same standard of care for mental issues as well. Teddy Kennedy fought for “a check up from the neck up” that we still do not provide in America until symptoms become entirely overwhelming, and that included children, based on 1970’s research that has still not been refuted. It never hurts to get your kid checked by a doctor, just like it never hurts to take your bird to the vet if something is off. Children can hide pain well too, especially if they think that pain is just a normal part of growing up.

    • @siriuslyconfused1
      @siriuslyconfused1 2 роки тому +10

      Also just in case you’re about to say “kids are over medicated”, there is no medication for auditory processing disorder, it’s just a diagnosis that makes people feel less stupid for having a problem they’ve frequently been told males them stupid.

      I’m curious to know more about what you’re seeing. I have issues with too many audible inputs, but I wouldn’t call it a disorder. However, You’ve for my attention on this one… would love to hear more about your observations

    • @siriuslyconfused1
      @siriuslyconfused1 2 роки тому +13

      @@DaveWomach what I see here is that she heard what was said and understood it well enough to repeat it back, the words registered, but then when it came time to simultaneously manage preforming a task (the part that requires the words be processed) she kept struggling by remembering the very first set of instructions instead of the ones she repeated back. The request to have her spin and then wave was the first piece of instruction given, and when instructions changed there was a struggle to process and preform the new information. This can be normal for anyone of course, but when you’re REALLY TRYING and still finding yourself caught in the loop of old instructions or an old way of doing things even when you are focusing hard, it can be a sign you’re struggling to process the incoming data at the rate it’s coming to you. Which is basically the definition of a processing disorder. It could of course be a million other things, for example my auditory processing issues and ADHD can look very similar, but the general thing that makes me reccomend an assessment is just that I see someone putting in every effort and struggling on a task that at that age for a person with no disabilities would probably be fairly easy, and that’s essentially what made my own doctor look closer at my issues. If you’re trying your best and it’s not good enough for a task that is considered “basic” you probably have a disability related to that task area and just aren’t aware of it.

    I had visions of taking my galah flying locally but just to be safe I strung up garden netting on the front porch. Our second time sitting out there this huge owl came swooping at us. Bubba retreated through the front door into the house. I sat there amazed that this owl was after lunch! He either spotted the net or me and made a u turn. Glad I kept my precious boy safe!

    Your family is amazing. I’ve come to love your channel for all the free insight I could have never had 20 years ago when a blue and gold macaw was dumped on me when I was a teenager. Yes, long story but it happened. My first bird was a blue and gold macaw at the age of 15!! I still have ptsd about it .
    But, the more I watch the more I realize how great of parents you both are. it shows in your daughter. She is so intelligent and well minded. She has great parents. Much love. I’m still on the fence about getting another bird after so many years but your channel is pure gold. I watch it every day and currently don’t have a bird companion. 😂

    My green cheek and ringneck love to play who can get to me first. So I can't really train them together either but it made a huge motivation for my Ringneck when I was struggling with him. Although now I am trying to get them to wait until I call their name a and that is kind of fun for me!🤣 Blueberry is so funny, it's like she is saying 'I got this!'

    I can attest to the wind's affect on green cheeks. I take Kermie on my porch to chill in the hammock on nice days. When he spooks on me, he turns around and comes right back and on the hammock nothing spooks him.
    One day, though, when standing up from the hammock he spooked just a little and flew out in his classic return pattern, but he was further out because of the wind and as he turned back it picked him up just a little and sent him maybe 6 feet out further. He made it back just fine, but now I don't go out when the wind gusts would be too much for him.
    And when standing up I hold him.
    He's a very unique bird. Well, our bond is unique. I met him at the pet shop I work at, and we bonded after about a week.
    Given his enclosure was set up to Petco standards, he got all his entertainment from our interactions. I would take him out after hours and we would hang out while I did my closing duties.
    So I got him. At home he has a nice mid sized cage with tons of toys and foraging, but he isn't happy unless I'm nearby. I'm his happy spot and he prefers to be with me over anything.
    He will lie on his back in my hands, let me groom him literally anywhere, touch his toes etc.
    He is clipped still (not grown back yet) but he will fly to me from any room in the house. He maxes out at about 32 feet from the ceiling to the floor (tall kitchen perch is height of most of the ceilings)
    He loves chop, and we are looking for a good pellet so I'll have to order from you guys.
    We are working on flight training and recall. He picked up target training immediately, so things have been pretty easy. His favorite treat is pine nuts though and I haven't found any locally yet.
    Thought you'd appreciate the weird relationship we formed, joined at the hip for life.

    Love your video. So entertaining and relaxing. Olivia and Blue are absolutely adorable. I went to my local pet store to see a green cheek yesterday (I visit him/her whenever I am nearby). He was playing with me through his/her glass cage. I wish I could bring the cute one home. But we travel often and no one is hone to care for a cute birdie. :(. So I watch every BirdTricks video.

    Our bird's are Mexican / Indian ringneck lacewing their preferred foods are homemade corn tortillas and corn on the cob. They also like peanuts and sunflower seeds. Edit they where re-homed to us. We had them clipped, didn't appreciate them yanking the chandeliers wires and pooping on our dinner table... they where completely wild and angry.... we can now walk by without them screaming and going completely crazy.

Driving is not an option as he has motion sickness and would spit up if in a car for too long. But a lot of airlines changed their policies after COVID so now they either don’t allow parrots in the cabin or even in the cargo. my kid had our baby conure flying to her hand on his second day home (i think?). He was 3 months old. Now its spring time, he loves to cuddle into necks, and chew on neck/shoulder skin, and preen the scratches and any other imperfection. He can be a Velcro bird he is big energy, we dont want him biting, but we know hes not biting, he is being loving he is preening us and it hurts, he does not want to get off of me if he is perched on my shoulder. I made a scarf out of leather purse straps and walnuts and walnut shells. Is there a solutions for this shoulder preening? He is determined.

    Descent is harder? My bird plummets to the floor like he's made of bricks. He isn't willing to fly to me but he acts like he wants to fly to the stand where I feed him breakfast. I'm trying to work with what he's willing to give me, but if he does choose to fly he always just ends up on the floor. I think it must be frustrating for him also since he doesn't end up where he wants and then he chooses not to fly a lot so he isn't working on building up those muscles.

I have no idea if this is completely normal for her or maybe an indication of something else, such as body image concern (watching her appearance in the camera), an attentional or sensory processing issue where she is having trouble paying attention in this kind of setting, boredom with the content, some kind of social anxiety or stress about making mistakes/doing the wrong thing... or maybe it's just normal. Either way, it was particularly noticeable in this video that she looked distracted by the camera... please completely ignore my comment if you think this is not anything of concern. Thank you again for sharing your content and a bit of your life as a family. Apologies if this was intrusive/inappropriate to say.

    I think you should have given the treats to train the kid, instead of the bird. 🙂
