Mama: “do you want to tell everyone about flight training?!” Capri: “no 😊” It made me laugh so hard 😂 I’m here because I have always wanted a bird and have never had one, and I want to make sure I know everything I can find out before I make that commitment (because it’s a long commitment 😅) ❤️
Bird owner with auditory processing disorder here, this is super duper nosy but I grew up not knowing I had it and am seeing the signs here as your daughter struggles to follow your simple verbal instructions, not at all my business but I wish someone had told my mom to get me assessed when I was your dear daughter’s age so I figure it’s worth dropping a comment to suggest it, I apologize for the overstep as some person online, and maybe you already know, but I’d feel weird not saying something because I have the same issues she has with doing things following habit instead of the explicit instructions given and it caused a nightmare of low self esteem not knowing what was wrong. Sending love to all of you and big thanks for this video!
@@carolineluckey1559 this is exactly why I didn’t get diagnosed until 25, this stuff can be normal and I’m certainly not diagnosing her, but parents aren’t medical providers and these diagnosis I’ve found such restoration in confidence for understanding didn’t even exist when my mom was young. I’d never diagnose someone online, but it can also never ever hurt to get a child evaluated if they’re struggling with something that comes easy to some kids. Often what we see as normal child and teen behavior and deficits are in fact symptoms, and just like when you don’t know if your child has a cold or allergies you still take them to the doctor, we should have the same standard of care for mental issues as well. Teddy Kennedy fought for “a check up from the neck up” that we still do not provide in America until symptoms become entirely overwhelming, and that included children, based on 1970’s research that has still not been refuted. It never hurts to get your kid checked by a doctor, just like it never hurts to take your bird to the vet if something is off. Children can hide pain well too, especially if they think that pain is just a normal part of growing up.
Also just in case you’re about to say “kids are over medicated”, there is no medication for auditory processing disorder, it’s just a diagnosis that makes people feel less stupid for having a problem they’ve frequently been told males them stupid.
I’m curious to know more about what you’re seeing. I have issues with too many audible inputs, but I wouldn’t call it a disorder. However, You’ve for my attention on this one… would love to hear more about your observations
@@DaveWomach what I see here is that she heard what was said and understood it well enough to repeat it back, the words registered, but then when it came time to simultaneously manage preforming a task (the part that requires the words be processed) she kept struggling by remembering the very first set of instructions instead of the ones she repeated back. The request to have her spin and then wave was the first piece of instruction given, and when instructions changed there was a struggle to process and preform the new information. This can be normal for anyone of course, but when you’re REALLY TRYING and still finding yourself caught in the loop of old instructions or an old way of doing things even when you are focusing hard, it can be a sign you’re struggling to process the incoming data at the rate it’s coming to you. Which is basically the definition of a processing disorder. It could of course be a million other things, for example my auditory processing issues and ADHD can look very similar, but the general thing that makes me reccomend an assessment is just that I see someone putting in every effort and struggling on a task that at that age for a person with no disabilities would probably be fairly easy, and that’s essentially what made my own doctor look closer at my issues. If you’re trying your best and it’s not good enough for a task that is considered “basic” you probably have a disability related to that task area and just aren’t aware of it.
I had visions of taking my galah flying locally but just to be safe I strung up garden netting on the front porch. Our second time sitting out there this huge owl came swooping at us. Bubba retreated through the front door into the house. I sat there amazed that this owl was after lunch! He either spotted the net or me and made a u turn. Glad I kept my precious boy safe!
Olivia is super friendly. I understand why you say Blueberry was interfering with Olivia's training, but she's nevertheless a great addition and demonstrator to this video 😄
Your family is amazing. I’ve come to love your channel for all the free insight I could have never had 20 years ago when a blue and gold macaw was dumped on me when I was a teenager. Yes, long story but it happened. My first bird was a blue and gold macaw at the age of 15!! I still have ptsd about it . But, the more I watch the more I realize how great of parents you both are. it shows in your daughter. She is so intelligent and well minded. She has great parents. Much love. I’m still on the fence about getting another bird after so many years but your channel is pure gold. I watch it every day and currently don’t have a bird companion. 😂
My green cheek and ringneck love to play who can get to me first. So I can't really train them together either but it made a huge motivation for my Ringneck when I was struggling with him. Although now I am trying to get them to wait until I call their name a and that is kind of fun for me!🤣 Blueberry is so funny, it's like she is saying 'I got this!'
Olivia is so adorable! She has such a kind personality. 💚-And Berry....is Berry.....lol 💙, she does get into everything! Her interruptions are so cute though! 😊
I can attest to the wind's affect on green cheeks. I take Kermie on my porch to chill in the hammock on nice days. When he spooks on me, he turns around and comes right back and on the hammock nothing spooks him. One day, though, when standing up from the hammock he spooked just a little and flew out in his classic return pattern, but he was further out because of the wind and as he turned back it picked him up just a little and sent him maybe 6 feet out further. He made it back just fine, but now I don't go out when the wind gusts would be too much for him. And when standing up I hold him. He's a very unique bird. Well, our bond is unique. I met him at the pet shop I work at, and we bonded after about a week. Given his enclosure was set up to Petco standards, he got all his entertainment from our interactions. I would take him out after hours and we would hang out while I did my closing duties. So I got him. At home he has a nice mid sized cage with tons of toys and foraging, but he isn't happy unless I'm nearby. I'm his happy spot and he prefers to be with me over anything. He will lie on his back in my hands, let me groom him literally anywhere, touch his toes etc. He is clipped still (not grown back yet) but he will fly to me from any room in the house. He maxes out at about 32 feet from the ceiling to the floor (tall kitchen perch is height of most of the ceilings) He loves chop, and we are looking for a good pellet so I'll have to order from you guys. We are working on flight training and recall. He picked up target training immediately, so things have been pretty easy. His favorite treat is pine nuts though and I haven't found any locally yet. Thought you'd appreciate the weird relationship we formed, joined at the hip for life.
Very informative, good job Olivia!😁and of course Blueberry, Capri, you're awsome Jamie, ive learned over a couple years, how to train my green cheek, Jake!! Thanx
I enjoy your videos. You have got a way to training that makes sense. I've learned so much from you and Dave and I appreciate the hard work and dedication y'all give to the birds. Keep up the good work.
This video was certainly well timed. I loved seeing you work through Olivia's hesitation. It reinforces your advice from this weekend about my Hahn's macaw,Oscar's, recall training. 😀😍
We’re getting our first conure on Friday and we couldn’t be more excited!! We lost a bird recently are we are truly heartbroken over Marley’s loss but we are excited to grow another amazing bond with a new bird. Thank you for your family’s amazing videos as they are always so helpful. I wanted to ask where or how to get something like the tree you guys have in your living room for your birds to play on and fly to. I know they’re expensive but we would love to find something like this for our home to have our new baby play on! 🦜❤️😊
My birds favorite treat is almonds. All the way. I get the almond chunks unsalted from the grocery store and he could be totally uninterested in me until I grab that back of almonds. He likes safflower seeds enough to do some training but he knows its serious when he gets an almond lol.
Love your video. So entertaining and relaxing. Olivia and Blue are absolutely adorable. I went to my local pet store to see a green cheek yesterday (I visit him/her whenever I am nearby). He was playing with me through his/her glass cage. I wish I could bring the cute one home. But we travel often and no one is hone to care for a cute birdie. :(. So I watch every BirdTricks video.
My boy, pictured, would rather fly to me, and I'm happy with that, today he flew 4 times to me, we talked for a bit and flew back to his love, cage, 😅 back out, flew to me missed me and landed on my head 🤣
This was good to know. Having a lot of trouble getting lovebird to step up. We do a lot of target training and spins but ready to move to flight. She will step on my forearm and up to shoulder but hands are preventing us from making progress
My budgie intentionally interferes with my cockatiels training. 😂. He will make noises in his cage if he's not out and when he is out he'll have to join in. An my cockatiel is not a fan. Usually have to get my hubby to train with one and I the other. They're such bossy little birds but that's why we love them.

my kid had our baby conure flying to her hand on his second day home (i think?). He was 3 months old. Now its spring time, he loves to cuddle into necks, and chew on neck/shoulder skin, and preen the scratches and any other imperfection. He can be a Velcro bird he is big energy, we dont want him biting, but we know hes not biting, he is being loving he is preening us and it hurts, he does not want to get off of me if he is perched on my shoulder. I made a scarf out of leather purse straps and walnuts and walnut shells. Is there a solutions for this shoulder preening? He is determined.
Hi, Bird Tricks I was wondering if you could help me out I’m 11 years old and I have a GCC. He can spin,he’s fully recalled including outside he has gotten outside many times and I just recall him back but the one thing I can get him to do is wave it seems to scare him when I move my hand away, can you please suggest what I should do?.
My cockatiel is sitting with me now and someday, he will fly OUTSIDE! He can't wait! Actually, he has to finish growing out his flight feathers, so he will have to wait.
Bird owner here and have had my birds cockatiels for now two months. She will come to me with commands but she’s extremely grouchy and screeches at me when i reset her to the perch. 😢any advice 😅😢I have been trying different treats of course they love sunflower and millet. Tried rotations of them. The other bird popeye he refuses to even leave the cage 😮
I just got a green cheek and he is very lovable but still young and his explore bitting on my hand is sometimes too hard. How do I get him to not bite so hard when he’s explore bitting. He also likes to be on my shoulder but when he’s on my shoulder he’s bitting my ear but again it’s just sometimes too hard. How do I get him to understand that he’s hurting me and I want him to stop.
My green cheek flies naturally to my shoulder... as curious and playful as he is... he doesn't seem to enjoy target training but I'll get him there. He certainly hates the flight harness though loo
I have two budgies and they belonged to another owner. It's been four months now and one of them is very very receptive to training but they would never fly to me! They just fly around the room sitting on the different perches I've set up and they don't respond to the target stick either. Welp!
Descent is harder? My bird plummets to the floor like he's made of bricks. He isn't willing to fly to me but he acts like he wants to fly to the stand where I feed him breakfast. I'm trying to work with what he's willing to give me, but if he does choose to fly he always just ends up on the floor. I think it must be frustrating for him also since he doesn't end up where he wants and then he chooses not to fly a lot so he isn't working on building up those muscles.
Hi, I'm a longtime channel watcher, and I love your content. I've noticed this for some years and haven't said anything... apologies if I'm overstepping here. I have noticed that Capri often seems to get distracted watching herself in the camera preview while filming. I have no idea if this is completely normal for her or maybe an indication of something else, such as body image concern (watching her appearance in the camera), an attentional or sensory processing issue where she is having trouble paying attention in this kind of setting, boredom with the content, some kind of social anxiety or stress about making mistakes/doing the wrong thing... or maybe it's just normal. Either way, it was particularly noticeable in this video that she looked distracted by the camera... please completely ignore my comment if you think this is not anything of concern. Thank you again for sharing your content and a bit of your life as a family. Apologies if this was intrusive/inappropriate to say.

What is the general minimal size for Free Flight? I plan to get an Alexandrine Ringneck Parakeet, is that large enough?
I do live in a wooded area that has hawks, owls, foxes, and the occasional eagle. I could find other locations, but New England has a very healthy ecosystem & these creatures are in many areas.

I’ve got a silly question- is Berry litter box trained, since she flies around the house, or does she just drop little splats as she flies?
She usually poops when she is on one of her trees, but accidents can and do happen. Baby wipes are useful for a quick cleanup. :)

My green cheek flies naturally to my shoulder... as curious and playful as he is... he doesn't seem to enjoy target training but I'll get him there. He certainly hates the flight harness though loo
Nice video
Good morning
It's a behind the scenes of a behind the scenes lol!
How we can teach budgie

I have 3. They are amazing flyers. But I will never free flight a small bird.
We should be weighing everyday? Why is that? Seems a bit excessive. I’ve never heard of that. But if I’m missing something please let me know ❤

I think you should have given the treats to train the kid, instead of the bird. 🙂
Keep silly, judgmental comments to yourself!
I trained both my gcc for freeflight but they startle too much 🥲
I only take my Patagonian conure outside
