      I have had one for about a year now, and it does smell, depending on how long you let it sit. I keep a vinegar/water spray bottle to spray it down after using it, and that helps clean it and keep the smell down, but after a while, if you don't dump it often, it will definitely have a strong smell to it. (Also has a lot to do with temperature. It's hotter out=more smell)

      True. No smell at all and no leakage when you throw it in your garden.
      In the back bucket I put a fermé drops of lemon or grapefruit essential oil and it's all I can smell when I use them.
      You never see anything disgusting Esther!
      The work of conception is worth the price.
      I don't regret my purchase.

    Good effort, but this type of toilet isa not composter. I agree it is waterless, since you are separating the urine. Composting usually takes quite a long time and generally is an aerobic process, so lots of turning or churning of the contents is required. Rarely would you retain poo from an RV that long. A 5 gal bucket with seat and liner , and maybe some type of material to absorb the liquid is just as effective and less expensive, etc., with almost no parts to break. A bucket is easier to clean in case of an accident. I have used the bucket system for 20 years with no problems.

    • @woowoowaterlesstoilets
      @woowoowaterlesstoilets  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, it has a similar (but slightly smaller) fan to the Villa and works in the same way. There's no need to add coir or any other material unless you are finding the solids container is getting liquids in. Separett make an 'Absorb' pad which can help absorb any excess liquid - the problem with adding coir is that you are reducing the overall capacity, so unless you have to, don't. The fan does two main jobs, first is removing any odours and second is helping to regulate the moisture content.

      You could do, although anything absorbent would be mainly beneficial as a soak in case any urine got in. The actual container of poo isn't in there long enough for it to become an issue. The exception might be if you have very loose stools.

    The moveable parts look frail and easily breakable. Nice features, though I prefer Sun-Mar's GTG. It's sturdier, simpler, and cheaper. Actually, I might make my own using a $50 portable toilet and rigging my own diverting and fan system.

      As you'd expect from a major manufacturer like Separett, the product has undergone extensive repetitive use and destruction testing and they are confident enough to offer a 5-year warranty.
      There are many other toilets out there and people can choose according to their requirements. Our customer feedback so far is excellent in terms of build quality and sturdiness. People seem to appreciate the unique features such as the automatic concealing flap, the urine level indicator and simple, clear method of emptying.
      Making your own is a great way to start understanding waterless toilets, but many people want something that is stylish, convenient and off-the-shelf. That's the Separett Tiny.

    How well does the seat cover seal the smell? What if you have the MAX fan, which is more powerful than the 12V fan, running in a camper VAN?
    Maybe if they have a very well sealed seat cover plus a fan driven air pipe, with a small diameter, to draw air from outside and blow on the solid. It will help to dry the solid and prevent the smell escape in a negative pressure environment.

    • @woowoowaterlesstoilets
      @woowoowaterlesstoilets  2 роки тому

      The seat and the view screen/flap don't play a big part in odour reduction, in fact, the gaps around the seat will help air get in for subsequent extraction. Whether your other fan will overpower the toilet depends on how powerful it is, although it's probably unlikely.

      @Umi-imU-We-Are-One 3 роки тому +11

      @@survivaltrotter-com It has been installed for two weeks now and so far, it is a great waterless toilet option. The pros are that it is completely orderless, although we do use coconut fibre in the compost bag that lines the solids tank, the seat is very comfy and it was very easy to install. We chose to run the vent pipe through the ceiling of our fifth wheel as our bathroom is on the same side of our RV as our awning, so we did not want to take a chance that any order would be detected while we are outside. The fan sound is barely detectable. We have had heavy rains lately and no water has gotten in through the piping with the rain cap. The biggest con, which is really just a design flaw, is the plastic claw that holds the blue enzyme tablet that the urine drains through should have a clamshell-type of cage over the top of it that can snap over the tablet to keep it in place, because every time that you go to empty the liquid container and lift the seat, the blue tablet goes flying unless you take it out before lifting the liquid container out to dump it. This is very unhygienic to have to do. It is gross, to be honest. People have pee’d over that blue tablet and so you have to use gloves to lift it out and then you have to set it somewhere (a piece of tissue) while you empty the liquid container and then put it back in its plastic claw. They could have designed something that snaps over the top holding the tablet in place while still allowing liquids to flow over it. It seems to me that a woman was not a part of designing this toilet. I’ll be back with a six-month review after we see how it holds up.

      @@nickclifford8531 No smells at all! The fan draws them up the pipe and out through the roof. Again, we do use coconut fibre in the solids tank that the compost bags line. We have never used just the bags alone, so I can not attest to whether or not the coconut makes a difference. When you pee the solids shield does open but we have not experienced any order. Also, Even though the blue pee tabs are a pain because they have to be removed each time you empty the urine container, I do highly recommend them as they keep all urine smells away as well. So far we are very pleased with this composting toilet. We especially Love the red light that always comes on to let you know that the liquid needs to be removed and dumped! No more nasty overflow or splashing of pee everywhere.

    Hello. I am on a boat and currently have a pump out toilet with blackwater tank which I am intending to replace with a separating toilet. The blackwater tank has a vent which uses a 15mm pipe exiting to the hull (above the waterline obviously before anyone asks🤣). Would it be feasible to step down the 2 inch vent pipe on this toilet to 15mm without having an adverse effect on the fan or the efficiency of the venting system in general? Cheers!

    • @woowoowaterlesstoilets
      @woowoowaterlesstoilets  2 роки тому

      We're doubtful that stepping down from 50mm to 15mm would work. In order to get the same air extraction rate, the airspeed would have to increase, which *might* present a noise issue.

      It depends on the amount of use, but typically you will get one to two weeks use from the solids container before it needs emptying. Obviously, the more people using it, the faster it will fill, and the amount of toilet paper you use will also have a bearing on the capacity. Because you are not mixing urine/faeces the odour potential is greatly reduced, and the ventilation system removes any remaining odours completely.

      This is a compost toilet as opposed to a composting toilet, so composting doesn't take place inside the toilet. The manufacturer understands that not everyone wants or needs those features and can make do with a simpler toilet, which is entirely your choice, but some people DO want those features. Also worth noting that Separett have done extensive testing on the parts and mechanisms to ensure that they'll continue to provide reliable service for many years to come. Ultimately, it's your choice and if you prefer a simpler solution (albeit without the 'features') then that's your choice to make.

      Simple 'bucket' toilets can work but not everybody wants that basic approach or has the time and space to manage a system like that. The Separett Tiny provides a waterless toilet option for people who prefer a good design and simple to manage system (urine separation) that would look good in houses, boats, camper vans etc.

    It’s a ventilated shit bag, and you have to guide your shit so it doesn’t end up in the urine container

    very well. but why is this thing costs $1500 ? this is basically a glorified plastic bucket. the reasonable price for this product should be between 100 to 400 USD, with plenty of profit margin. anything beyond that is gauging.

      Hi Ron. You should direct the question to the manufacturer - we're just a distributor! I guess the R&D costs, manufacturing, distribution, marketing and so on, all have to be factored in. If you look at competitive products (Air Head, Natures Head etc) they are either similar or more expensive.

    Nah this just doesn't add up, bucket method isnt as good as composting. Yeah there might not be enough time for the solids to fully compost but id rather that then basically just crap into an open bag. Terrible smells, terrible clean up, flap closes when you stand so how you meant to dispose of toilet paper. Too many flaws, ill be going with compost

      It's not and doesn't pretend to be a composting toilet, (it is part of a composting system) but it can be installed in places you cannot have a full-composting toilet (ie where space is a premium). By separating, and with the vent system, you don't get smells (as users will testify - it's based on the Separett Villa which has been in production over 20 years) and you can either wipe and deposit used paper as you sit, or put pressure on the seat to open, or bin used loo paper elsewhere. Full composting toilets are great and have a place, but this is an alternative that works for many people.
