Here's what I like about these videos..they don't inundate us with tips. Sure there are a ton of things you could do to improve a swing, but I love how they pick a couple things to focus on and really drive them home to us. Too much info and people won't absorb any of it.
I tee off in 47 minutes. Just watched Dave's excellent hybrid/fairway wood video and I will be using his advice on the course momentarily. I will definitely widen my stance in regards to hybrid and fairway wood play... Thank you, Dave!
I use to hate using my 3 wood till i picked up a Ping 400 model. Life is good now, and i depend on my 3 wood now. Very ez to hit club and I just love it !
You have done it again. I was very reluctant to use my woods off the fairway as they had a mind of their own and this cost me shots. Simple alignment, ball position with a good steady swing is all it took. Thanks for tip and today tried it. Holy moely! 3 wood straight from the deck 4 times! never in my chuff have I achieved that. Thanks Dave my hero.
Yes, yes, yes. Best tip yet. Got a new 4 hybrid and 3 wood on the way, cannot wait. Both new additions in my bag to cover some gaps, so this tip is perfect timing.
I did the exact same thing, Andrew! Brand new 3 wood and 4 hybrid jumped into my bag this year... but I do top them sometimes, so I will try Dave's tips on the course today! Cheers, Andrew!
New subscriber!! I struggle so much hitting my hybrids, and I'm told they're so easy to hit. The wider stance, ball position, and paying close attention the "killer move" at 5:09 should make life so much easier. Thank-you!!
My favourite occurrence in the GM videos is the "boy-ing" sound when Mr B hits a duffer followed closely by Joe cheering in the distance when Mr B hits a good shot. Keep it up Joe!
I am a disabled golfer that has been playing for 50 years, but lately been struggling with woods and hybrids off the fairway. Watched this and although still mishit one or two I have started hitting greens from up to 170 yards, you may scoff at this but is great for me as I only hit my driver 150 on average. Thankyou, my handicap has dropped 6 in 4 weeks.
I'm a little late to the show here but I tried these tips my last two rounds and I was hitting my fairway way wood better than I had for a couple of months. Thanks for the great tips Dave.
Thank you so much. I was on the course today and did exactly what you said with my 3 and 5 wood never topped one shot. I even shared it with my friends. Just a little side note for women: If you don’t have a logo on your blouse or vest line your ball up with your left boob if your a right handed golfer. Good luck out there ladies.
Excellent! Thank you. Just recently I have begun to widen my stance beginning with my driver, and have had very promising results. I always tended to fall away from the backswing and get exactly as illustrated here. I’ve been getting the same positive results with my three wood by widening and it naturally steadies my stance. I dreaded the three to the extent that it stayed in the bag, now I’m getting sweet yardage with it. These sessions are great, thanks for posting.
The best thing I saw was how he gripped up to his right hand. Lay the club square, then grip up the right hand, next the left. So that at impact, your arms are neutral and not at tension.
Thank you Simon. Great lesson. When you see it on video it all comes together. I will have to get to the golf range and work hard on this lesson. Totally golden information. 🫶
Thank you thank you! I finally can hit my 3 wood and 4 Hybrid nearly every time since watching this video. Just widening my stance by 6" made a world of difference!
After many years of loving my spoon, I slowly started to loathe it. What worked for me was going from a 70 g S shaft to a 50 R. At 69 I’m not carrying 240 anymore but give me 200 carry rolling out to 220 and I’m lovin’ it again.
I tried those tips out today with my hybrid and 3 wood. I topped the first hybrid but I felt I wasn’t full committed and was trying too hard. The next 3 wood was probably a career best. Lovely ball flight as well. Same for the hybrid. I actually think this is one lesson that’s done the job for me. Thanks Dave! 👍
Best video on hybrid or Fw clubs. How to shallow the club with wider stance instead of dropping your club pulling, jumping and tearing your body apart. Dave's way is the best and it works.
Dave excellent video, with everything so clearly explained. I will practice positioning with the rescue club opposite my shirt logo and with the 3 wood opposite my arm pit. I often struggle with the correct position in my stance. Looking forward to next weeks video.
Watched the video earlier and went straight to the range and it worked can’t thank Dave enough as I’ve been struggling with a shank for the last 18 months with my woods off the tee and have been using a 4 iron to tee off with. Hopefully with a bit more practice at the range following Dave’s tips I’ll get my driving back 😊👍🏻
Some of my best scores have come when I’ve not been striking the ball well but my scrambling has been spot on. Golf is 18 small games within one big game. You can lose a few small games and still score well.
A great lesson I have recorded these lessons and I can use them whenever I can and it is Great to remind yourself and there are some really good tips thank you Dave for All you bring to golf
I've been having trouble hitting my 3 wood latterly, so much so I wouldn't practice at the range. Today I was going out to play and realised I would be needing my 3 wood, watched this this morning before I played. Wow wow wow I smashed it, I hit it pure every time, thank you x
Just went outside and hit 2 f'ways, a hybrid iron and a hybrid widening my stance made a very positive outcome. Will be using this next time out. Very good video and direct easy to understand explanations. Thanks!
What a tip! I don't think I've ever been told about the wider stance before, it makes so much sense. Definitely trying this next time out. Thanks Dave 🏌️🏌️
Finally, straight-forward lesson on how to hit these clubs. Makes sense on how to avoid the disappointing topped shot - going to the range now to practice these tips. Dave’s lessons are always practical and easy to understand!
Love it big Dave I’ve been hiding from hitting these exact clubs since buying them as I top the life out of them on the fairways or the tee box .. as Omp said to Liam if you don’t hit them you’re never gonna feel confident with them .. this video is invaluable to a novice / high handicapper like myself 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Hey Dave great information. I love my hybrids and fairway wood. I think an important thought here is remember to let the club do the work and don’t try to kill it. Thanks buddy!
I just went out in my backyard and did exactly what you said. Never topped my 3 or 5 one time. I was totally amazed. Now to see how I do tomorrow on the course. Thank you. Been topping both of these clubs and could not figure out why.
Dave & Liam, thanks so much for these tips. I hit 3 hybrid decently, but as Dave mentions I top 3 wood off fairway 1/2 the time. Would love to be more effective as 20+ extra yards can come in handy. Will try!
I replaced my 3 wood with a 3 hybrid far easier to hit, like you said Dave I found the 3 wood a bit all over the place!! I play it slightly up from centre of stance and play it like an iron balance neutral and weight into left leg! Great video! Wedge play would be a great help for me
Great tips Dave, the 3W & hybrids are a strength for me but I'm probably in the minority and as a senior player I use them quite often. I carry a 3 hybrid thru 6 hybrid to eliminate the longer & mid irons and I think many senior benefit from my type bag arrangement.
CG, good point, I used to love longer irons, but as I've gotten older I carry a 3, 5, 7, 9 Wood and don't carry an iron longer than a 6. Has helped my game as I've gotten closer to the big 60...
@@ace5590 yes, it's so much easlier to get woods & hybrids in the air and carry bunkering sround the green and still stop the ball quickly. I'm 71 and I really changed my bag and the tee position (5500 +/- yds) two years ago and I'm really enjoying my golf much more. I had a hole-in-one & shot my age last year (granted from forward tees). As we age if we are willing to make appropriate adjustments we can enjoy our golf many additional years.
No doubt the most challenging clubs to hit but as Dave said there's only one way to gain the confidence and skill to benefit from them, "you've got to use these clubs a lot". Keep in mind, when you strike these well, what a great feeling! Grate lesson Dave - Thanks!
Another great video. The widening of the stance is new to me and I shall certainly give it a go., I hope Dave will soon show us oldies some tips for senior golfers to help improve our game within our capabilities. Thanks Dave.
Good information. I love my three wood and hybrids and I hit them well, so well I just added a six hybrid to my bag. When you widen your stance it looked to me like you opened your body up and flared your back foot which is what I do. I try to always remember don’t over swing your club let it do the work.. thanks
You still are Dave McKinnon. Brilliant video. I have 1 3 5 & 4hybrid in my bag. However the FW are both adjustable and are closer to 4 & 6 wood. All work for me and when my swing is going good they are excellent clubs 4me!
Dave , I play at WOOLLEY PARK golf club. My way of hitting 3w rogue is I move my rear foot back , why !! well every time I hit a great shot for me it tails off to the right , so by doing this I find for me it's a bullet high and down centre . paul
I stopped using my 3-wood for a year until I stumbled on Phil Michelson's tip (for a 5-wood out of the rough) to put all the weight on the front foot. It did wonders for me, at least, so the 3-wood instantly went from being my least used club to become my most used one (except for the putter and 56 degree).
Thanks for the tip Dave - played some of the best fairway wood shots today by listening for the ‘thud’ in my practice swing. Can you possibly share some tips to hit iron shots lower and higher?
Dave your a pro but I agree with what someone else said for me it’s a little bit more centre maybe if you have long arms your tip is good I’m 5ft 6ins and 60 I hit the 3 wood 200 yards it’s good enough for me.

I agree! I'm really liking this channel. They simplify the game of golf.
Also when they show the flight of the ball 😂
I tee off in 47 minutes. Just watched Dave's excellent hybrid/fairway wood video and I will be using his advice on the course momentarily. I will definitely widen my stance in regards to hybrid and fairway wood play... Thank you, Dave!

I have hit 1 bad fairway wood in 10 since watching your video. Widening my stance just a little seems to have helped the most.

I have better control with my hybrids. That's why I like my hybrids.
My favourite occurrence in the GM videos is the "boy-ing" sound when Mr B hits a duffer followed closely by Joe cheering in the distance when Mr B hits a good shot. Keep it up Joe!

Once again, no frills, logical tips. Thanks Dave!
Great as ever Dave, never thought about slightly wider stance to level the attack. 👍
went to the driving range this morning, You solved my problem..Thank you. alan
Thank you
Thank you Dave for validating my choice of clubs for my bag. A driver, 4 hybrid, 5 wood, and 7 wood.
