I really hate what they did to chaos emperor dragon with the awful errata. They really spit in the face of history of how it played a role in creating the banlist. I prefer seeing it stayed banned in the banlist for historical reasons than today which is now just a shadow of it's former self.
What really hurts more than anything else is that it's pretty much unplayable now because of the restriction they put on it's effect when they errata'd it. Chaos Emperor Dragon is sadly just not worth playing anymore, unfortunately
From a technical standpoint, a Yata-lock isn't necessarily game. It heavily depends on your life points and your opponents deck size. Definitely less of an issue in the modern era where special summons are plentiful, but if you can't get more monsters on the field a piddly 200 damage a turn could potentially lead to a deckout before being able to finish off your opponent. If your opponent has to risk letting you draw to get more damage in it could potentially allow you to make a comeback.
Yes. Impressively, even if you will deck out before they will lose all their life points from yata-garasu (say you have 3 cards left but they have 6000 LP left)
@Raidraptor_-_Ultimate_Falcon true, but the errata happened long after this card appeared in the anime. At the time of its appearance, it still had its broken effect that made it end up on the ban list. It isn't exactly fair to put it on this list because of how bad it is now due to Konami nerfing it into being unplayable.
I honestly feel like it should not be on here. Considering that it had a competetative history before being erratd it seems like a weird card to include
@@Masahane I would like to add... I think even nerved Chaos Emporer Dragon is still better than cards like Ring of Defense, Stop Defense, Cost Down or Hyozanryu. Its arguably even better than Blue-Eyes himself because it can Special Summon itself. Chaos Emporer Dragon really should not be on here.
@@wilkobadberg5272 Speaking of Ring of Defense, MANGA Kaiba had no need of it. Why? Because Ring of Destruction isn't mutually damaging in the manga. So for no cost you destroy an opponents monster AND deal them the full amount of their monsters attack points as damage. Like with Crush Card and Virus Cannon, Kaiba just has some of the most broken cards in all of Yugioh in terms of the shows power level.
@@oscareduardojuarez1588To be fair "Pot of Greed" could be many things.... just not as many things in a kids card game like Yu-Gi-Oh! I it could just be a greedy person who has a lot of Pot(s) or just a self smoker of the same...
Imagine if we had lore of boar soldier being a cowardly disgrace on a few cards followed by an entire archetype based on his potential journey to become the great and powerful soldier he set out from home to be. And whether he makes it or falls. Boar lore, let's go.
But he did include it in his deck (maybe to show off that he's the best regardless how many bricks he runs; or the tournament rules kind of demanded that your deck changes according to the opponents you defeat; it helped that the Masked Beast is not a Nomi in the manga).
Man, you got to love that old thing. Super simple self Special, two Tribute including one of two vanillas, and a wacky version of Dark Necrofear's thing.
I know Battle City is the first thing that comes to mind with Kaiba's strategies nowadays, but I feel like Konami's missing out on a massive opportunity not retraining some of his Duelist Kingdom cards. Saggi the Dark Clown, Swordstalker, Hitotsu-Me Giant... it can't just be me, right?
Minimum Saggi could get a retrain based on the "Eyes of Blue" archetype. Especially considering Saggi Even appeared in Dark Side of Dimensions to activate a Trap Card (Dark Sacrifice) Just make Saggi a trap searcher for traps that requires you to tribute a monster whose description is basically Saggi (Level 3 or lower DARK Spellcaster with 1500 or less DEF). MAYBE laso include Peten the Dark Clown in a way that it doesn't miss timing
A Top 10 Worst Joey's Cards is going to be a hard and easy list to make because he has *a lot* of crap cards to choose from. Insect Queen might not even be #1. Neat little thing about CED, is it's actually mentioned being banned, in-universe, in a early episode of GX. I think that's the only time in any of the animes that a card is explicitly stated to be banned.
Chaos End Ruler - Ruler of the Beginning and the End is mentioned in Zexal which banishes the opponent's hand, field and grave and doing 500x burn. I can't think of other examples though
To be fair, Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon is actually broken in the context of the movie because of Shining Diffusion and it can nuke anything Kaiba wants. It also had the power to destroy buff up monster Anubis so basically if Kaiba had it in Battle City, he probably could've have won LOL the show needed to give Kaiba Dragon's Mirror.
Most of this list is cards that were good at the time, had much better effects in the anime, or that Kaiba didn't even use. There are like maybe three of these cards that actually deserve to be on the list.
Agreed. I almost wanted to leave a comment saying how this video was pretty bad since almost all of the cards were broken/super op when used at the time/in the anine.
we need a retrain of pyramid of light with the effects being "When this card is activated destroy and banish all level 10 or higher monster on the field. If this card would be destroyed by a card effect negate and destroy that card (Then imply a once per turn or per duel text here). Once per turn you instead of drawing during your draw phase add a card that mention "Pyramid of Light" in its card text".
I like it, even though it would still be trash. Maybe skip the "destroy" and just banish, and make the search effect optional. Since the sphinxes are not even a meme deck, this card could come.out at any moment. Let's check if Konami decides to catter to pyramid of light's nostalgia...
@@spencerweiss6337 kaiba voice: you want to know the bad cards in wheelers pathetic deck? all of them *mic drops and scoots away on his blue eyes theme heeleys*
@@rainbowdragon168...im getting the feeling that yugioh players are insanely dense. dude said have kaiba narrate the joey video, kaiba hates joey, kaiba would say all of joeys cards are trash because he hates joey regardless of whether or not they actually were. kaiba also didnt have heeleys, why not comment about that next?
I feel like judging them in a modern setting is a little unfair. Well no duh cards from 20 years ago can't hold up in a modern game where you spend 10 minutes per turn summoning dozens of monsters then synchro, xyz, and pendulum summoning giant 6k attack monsters with a 2 paragraph effect
bingo. game went from strategy, tactics, deckbuilding to a paytowin roflstomp in 1-2 turns.... have Konami forgot what this game was all about?.... fuckers
It is kinda unfair. I mean for example, "Cloning" was made in a time when normal and flip summons were common, not during a time when you normal summon one monster, to special summon 20 more. A list of bad cards in the last 1 - 2 years or cards that were always bad, would be more interesting.
The problem with your Negate Attack argument is that those other traps don't actually stop the opponent from attacking you which means their monsters can still trigger on attack effects. Negate Attack not only negates the attack but ends the battle phase.
And since it's a quick-play trap card, the cards that can be chained to this are also limited to spell speed 3 cards. It's a solid defensive card in my opinion.
Jelly Cannon gets rid of any monster giving it a lot of versatility, and if you do target the attacking monster no effect can be activated as the attack didn't go through, and wall of disruption makes all of their monster lose the attack making it virtually ending the battle phase, and the atk debuff is permanent. Attack effects are extremely niche and straight up bad, that's not a good argument at all. There's barely any scenario where Negate Attack is any better than *any* battle trap.
@@joeysgamingcorner All trap cards are quick play, that's exactly what makes them different from other cards. That's called a counter trap and while yes it means it can't be negated, in today's reality that card is, just like any other battle trap, not staying on the field until battle phase. The only solid battle phase defensive cards are hand traps like Battle fader, swift scarecrow, Kiteroid in Duel Links or Gorz.
It seems like a stretch to put Masked Beast Des Gardius on the list since he never actually played the card. That's like having a Joey video and having Fortress Whale on it.
Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon also had the effect in the anime to destroy a card on the field by tributing it. But for a reason they have removed this effect in the transition to the real game. I just hope they will retrain this card.
It didn't destroy a card but banished it which why I believe Shining Dragon was the only way to beat the villan when the duel became real with real monsters and damage
The thing I would really change in these videos is referencing the modern game. I mean, all but 4-5 permabanned classic cards are terrible to ok in the modern game so if you look at pretty much any card used by a character in the DM anime, it's pretty much useless in the modern game. It would be better if the cards were just shown exclusively trough the lens of the the game at the time of their release and how long they remained relevant if they were useful then. At least during the TCG portion of the analysis. All this to say, aside from Pot of Greed/Confiscation/Graceful Charity...etc...does it need saying that cards from 20 years ago are bad in the modern game? And sometimes it's the main argument when calling a card bad in these videos. A lot of choices in these videos were pretty ok to good at the time. For example: Negate Attack was a solid card around 2003 when it was first released. Not meta, but ok. Perhaps it would have seen more play if it wasn't ultra rare promo release or if it didn't take 3 years until it got a wide release as common. Cloning on the other was way past any real usefulness when it was first printed in 2008. But had it been a 2002-03 card, it would have been at least ok since special-summoning wasn't that prevalent yet. Imagine simply copying an opponent's Mechanicalchaser or Summoned Skull during the beatdown years...
The cloning card is not exactly a good example because of its release date being during the Synchro era. Considering that many strategies were made to special summon to go into extra deck options, a trap card that only works on normal summons is not really good even back then. And even when you put that effect in the classic era, at best, it's a stalling strategy with a potential of getting a good effect.
*Thank you.* You’re like the first person pointing out the flaws with the premise of these videos instead of going for the low-hanging fruit “Do Joey Wheeler next, he runs a bunch of bad cards hur dur”.
Also, another thing to keep in mind is some of these cards functioned differently in the anime/manga but were nerfed/rebalanced when they came out in the OCG/TCG. Not to mention how asynchronous card releases between the OCG and TCG were back in the day. OCG players had Cloning since 2003, and while it wasn't the greatest card, sacrifice summons were still being used regularly at the time.
To be fair though, even when they were released these cards were pretty terrible. The one exception might be negate attack and even that was severely hindered by the fact that mirror force was already out there. As Duellogs points out, even among battle traps (a dead breed of cards in the modern era) there are a lot better options. While I do think it is a little unfair how he'll quickly bring up some far stronger modern cards, he does temper that by also comparing these cards to other much better old school cards (for instance, even back when everyone was using the strongest level 4 beatsticks available and many would even play cards with negative effects just because they had an attack greater or equal to 1800, no one played boar soldier, because as he noted you also had Goblin Attack Force and Jirai Gumo, not to mention Dark Elf, all cards that had negative effects that were at least manageable). Honestly, the only card I would really question putting on the list is Chaos Emperor Dragon, as it's only the retrain that was bad and the one Kaiba used by way before that, when it's effect actually broke the game.
Maybe a more appropriate title as to the content of this video is: “Top 10 Cards Used by Kaiba in the Anime That Was Nerfed/Rendered Unusable in the OCG/TCG”.
Thank you! not bashing the list off the anime effects is really weird due to how radically different they are when I saw virus canon in the thumbnail I was so confused as to how getting rid of all your opponent"s magic cards for free could be bad.
Didn't Kaiba also use Swordstalker? IIRC, it gained attack based off of how many monsters were in the graveyard or something like that. I thought this would have made the list or at least an honorable mention. I remember when I was new to YGO, playing other kids at the playground, and I tried to say that Swordstalker gets that effect because Kaiba did it, but I was quickly humbled by an older kid saying it's not an effect monster. I didn't know that effect monsters were a thing.
Funny enough in the game yugioh duelist of the rose swordstalker have an effect. When it face up on the field it gain attack points for each monster in your graveyard. Hopefully Konami make a retrain of swordstalker one day.
The guy who gave me some of my best tips for playing was a Kaiba cosplayer at a tournament I went to. He saw me playing casually with another kid and I guess he liked what he saw enough to sit with me for three hours showing me different and better ways to play. He was awesome and I’ve had a soft spot for the character ever since 😊
The Pyramid of Light sphinx strategy is really terrible, but a little legacy support with a field spell (or some continuous spell that can be Pyramid of Light) and some rank 10 support might be fun to play. The sphinxes would already be solid extenders.
Here’s a unique Idea: Top 10 Monster Fusions that aren’t Fusion monsters, Aka non-fusion monsters whose designs and/or effects are an amalgamation of 2 monsters put together.
18:56 what you need to do is play 1 copy of mesmeric control so one in 10,000 duels you can make a Karakuri or Morphtronic player reconsider their life choices.
I remember getting Boar Soldier in a Magic Ruler booster pack, and I friggin hated it! It was a low level monster with 2000 attack which was great, only to find out it sucked due to it's terrible effect. I try to normal summon it, it blows itself up. I special summon it and it's fine, unless your opponent has a monster on the field. Then it becomes weaker. Just like Nuvia the Wicked.
I’d love to see you put together top 10 lists for tribe/attribute support cards. Some would probably be easier than others, like “Top 10 Dragon support cards.” But it’s a huge list of possible videos and some would be super cool to see
0:25 It hurts my soul to see CED in a worst list (keep in mind that by the time of the GX anime, the pre-nerf CED was outright BANNED for the same reasons the real life version was)….
Regarding the "Negate Attack" portion, you forgot a key factor of the card, just like Chaos Emperor Dragon, NA suffered a crippling errata, old schoold NA was a non-targeting card that functioned like a faster, non-field wipe version of mirror force, so in the modern meta cards like Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon or Drytron Meteonis Quadrantids could've been stopped by pre-errata NA, but modern NA has to target first and the aforementioned example monsters can't be targeted by trap effects, thus the card is even worse than before. Also I could be wrong but I think NA is the only (if not, it's definitely one of the few) counter trap cards that (post-errata) has a targeting clause.
When I was a kid (like 10 or 11), I always played a scuffed Blue Eyes deck at locals. My goal was always to play Blue Eyes Shining Dragon and I remember very clearly the single time I was able to get it off. It felt awesome. I don't think I won that duel, but I won a moral victory instead.
The conditions will probably be like banish one blue eyes ultimate dragon or a fusion monster that requires 3 blue eyes monsters as material on the field, and one blue eyes monster in your hand then special summon this card from your extta deck. Counts as fusion summon properly.
@@dayvonlouis5187 how's that worse when you don't need the specif blue eyes shining dragon in your hand to summon it from the extra deck while paying homage to the original??? Smh yall just want to talk shit for no reason.
@@kookou13 I’m not talking shit and actually think about your suggestion, searching the Shining dragon isn’t the issue there’s at least 10 different dragon centric card that can and you know it nevermind your clause of having a blue eyes monster in the hand it’s having an ultimate dragon monster on the field to begin with all three ultimate dragon fusion currently exists with the requirement of using 3 blue eyes monster to summon them and the other 2 requires Black luster solider and the original ultimate dragon or the newest one needing still 3 blue eyes white dragon or a single ultimate dragon with specifically a black luster/chaos ritual the only thing making it an extra deck monster does is prevent it from being a dead draw in the main deck if your summon requirements were used for it
Thinking about the time I made a guy rage quit out of a tournament with the Sphinx cards when I was a kid. He was absolutely convinced that I couldn't get them out without Pyramid of Light and I just kinda sat there while he threw a fit. I lost the very next duel, but that was still one of the highlights of my day.
Saying Negate Attack is bad because it’s not as good as a few other cards that have the same effect is kind of invalid. Being outclassed doesn’t automatically make a card effect bad. And there are plenty of traps that can only be activated by attacks. Backrow removal is the weakness with any trap card. Plus the payoff of Negate Attack is fairly strong.
In addition to virus cannon’s anime effect putting ishzu’s spells in the gy another reason he nearly got his butt kicked by her was her magic necklace that allowed ishizu to see seto’s every move before the duel even started and knew he was planning not only to send all her best cards to the gy but tribute her monsters to summon obelisk the tormentor and if her little brother’s magic rod didn’t show seto the means to defeat her was blue eyes white dragon obelisk would’ve exploded and taken out seto’s LP you can’t beat who you can’t surprise and the only way to beat someone who can see one possible future is to see an alternate future before it’s set and have the willpower to oppose it
Kaiba using Sagi The Dark Clown is always hilarious. Sagi still doesn't have an archetype or support so it's just a vanilla weak monster. He coulda used any better monster to combo with Dark Energy or Crush Card
6:18 I need to watch the Pyramid of Light movie now because he got Ultimate Dragon out TURN ONE of his tag team dual with Yugi against Dartz in S4 of DM, so why the heck did it take so long to get out in this movie?!
Considering a majority of these cards were phased out due to power creep or errata, there were far worse cards Kaiba used. The very first card Kaiba ever played in the animé was a 1200 ATK vanilla monster (Hitotsu-Me Giant). Not to mention Negative Energy (which had its effect changed in even the animé), Stop Defense, Ancient Lamp (very situational as it required La Jinn to even use), Despell, Obligatory Summon, and a lot of very situational cards the animé used/invented just to move the plot.
I don't understand how these old cards like CED get banned but then they make something new with basically the same effects.. I literally just did a similar otk the other day with archfiend red eyes + secret barrel. Yes it's 2 cards instead of 1 but they aren't limited and it can happen on turn 1 if there's a red eyes fusion in hand. I find it hilarious how people table-flip from seeing 1 archfiend, yet I'm supposed to sit back and be fine with certain archetypes having complete immunity while they directly attack LP? I miss duels. Now we have solitaire.
Before ultimate dragon came out, me and my friends just said that you had to have three blue eyes white dragons on the field for three turns, then you could sacrifice those for the shiny dragon and yeah, that actually worked back in the day, but with all the crazy tuner monsters and shitthey wouldn’t work now, but it worked back then
Two things I'd like to point out. First is that Kaiba's decision to use "Masked Beast Des Gardias" in that "Four-way Duel" to be able to go first was smart, since he had no real way to use it. Second is that if it hadn't been for Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End existing AT ALL, the ban list wouldn't even be a thing since it was one of the most broken cards in the early days of the game.
I remember I bought one of those old Booster Boxes back in the day, Tactical Evolution, I think it was, and actually pulled Des Guardius and I still cannot even use the damned thing a decade later, not even in all the games!
22:05 Idea for a “Pyramid of Light” retrain that makes “Sphinx” cards a proper archetype: _Sphinx’s Pyramid_ Continuous Trap _This card’s name is always also treated as “Pyramid of Light”. Unaffected by card effects that do not target while you control a face-up “Sphinx” monster. If this card would be targeted for a card or effect while you control a face-up “Sphinx” monster: You can change the target to another correct target if possible. You can conduct additional normal summons of “Sphinx” monsters per turn without limit. You can only the following effect of “Sphinx’s Pyramid” once per turn. If you summon a “Sphinx” monster, or activate a “Sphinx” Spell/Trap card or effect: You can add to your hand (from your deck or GY) or send to your GY (from your hand or deck) 1 “Sphinx” card._
Against empty jar decks virus cannon can be good because all of your cards you need to use the jar are sent to the graveyard so you can only use its effect once and then your opponent can otk you on the crack back.
Oh, the pain of seeing Shining Dragon in a negative connotation. Like, I know it's a bad card, but I love that card, and only want to see it in a positive light. I'm just happy it wasn't too high on the list. 😅
before this channel, I woulda put Hitotsu-Me Giant on this list, not knowing it was the original lvl 4 benchmark of the first ocg pack. cause the way they put packs together in the tcg made it really weird to see a power-focused duelist play such a weak monster that's too strong for crush card virus
Saggi the dark clown should’ve been in the top 3 of this list. Kaiba used good combo cards around it but he could’ve used any weak dark monster instead of a weak vanilla.
My favorite was Swordstalker, a card that allegedly continued building power every time it destroyed something, when in reality, it was just a vanilla dude that had relatively bad stats.
Chaos emperor dragon does have a good effect of destroying cards at least. Shining Dragon’s hard requirement has to have ultimate dragon on the field but no doubt players can prevent that from happening.
15:16 I wanna try a batch of retrains for each of these three cards… _Melchid, The Fourfold Masked Beast_ (DARK) Level 4 Pendulum scales: 9 _You can apply 1 of the following effects of “Melchid, The Fourfold Masked Beast” per turn:_ ⚪️You can Shuffle 1 monster from your hand or field into your deck: Add 1 “Mask” card to hand from your GY. ⚪️You can shuffle 1 Spell/Trap from your hand or field into your deck: Add 1 “Mask” card to hand from your deck. ⚪️Increase or Decrease your LP by equal to the difference the pendulum scales of any 2 Pendulum monsters that are face-up on the field X500. ⚪️Increase or Decrease your the ATK and DEF of a monster on the field by equal to the difference the pendulum scales of any 2 Pendulum monsters that are face-up on the field X250. Fiend/Pendulum/Tuner/Effect _This card’s name is also treated as “Melchid the Four-Face Beast” while face-up on the field or in the GY. You can apply 1 of the following effects of “Melchid, The Fourfold Masked Beast” per turn:_ ⚪️Declare this card’s name: This card can attack 4 times in a row this turn. This card cannot attack your opponent directly the turn you apply this effect. ⚪️Reveal 1 monster from your hand: The next 4 times this card would be destroyed, it is not. ⚪️Reveal 1 Spell/Trap from your hand: The next 4 times this card would be Banished, it is not. ⚪️Tribute 1 card from your hand or field: Place 1 Level/rank 4 or lower Fiend Pendulum monster from your deck, monster zones or face-up from your extra deck into your pendulum zone. ATK/1500 DEF/1200 _Gyura, The Elder Masked Beast_ (DARK) Pendulum Scales: 0 _You can apply each of the following effects of “Gyura, The Elder Masked Beast” once per turn:_ ⚪️Tribute 1 monster from your hand or field: Activate 1 “Mask” spell/trap card from your hand or deck. ⚪️Tribute 1 Spell/Trap card from your hand or field: Special Summon 1 “Mask” monster from your hand, deck or Pendulum zones. Fiend/Pendulum/Tuner/Effect _This card’s name is also treated as “Grand Tiki Elder” while face-up on the field or in the GY. You can apply each of the following effects of “Gyura, The Elder Masked Beast” once per turn:_ ⚪️Target 2 cards on the field: Neither target cat target each other for attacks or card effects for the rest of the turn. ⚪️Target 1 monster on the field: That target losses 100 ATK/DEF at the end of every phase. If that target has 0 ATK or DEF at the end of a phase: Destroy it, then you can draw 1 card. ATK/1500 DEF/800 _Des Gardius, The Unbound Masked Beast_ (DARK) Level 4 Fiend/Effect _This card’s name is always also treated as "Masked Beast Des Gardius". Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned by its own effect. (Quick Effect) You can special summon this card you possess (That is banished or from your hand or GY) If you control 1 or more face-up “Gyura, The Elder Masked Beast” and “Melchid, The Fourfold Masked Beast” each on your field at once. If this card that was first summoned by it’s own effect leaves the field: Target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; equip 1 "The Mask of Remnants" from your Hand, Deck or GY to it._ ATK/3300 DEF/2500 So basically, as long as the 2 revamped level 4 monsters are face-up on the field in some capacity, Des Gardius would be able to repeatedly summon itself during either players turn, while still being able to invoke “The Mask of Remnants" over and over to potentially steal multiple of your opponent’s monsters. Meanwhile the level 4’s are now pendulum tuners with effects based off of their normal monster flavor texts, while them being pendulum allows them to more easily be on the field for “Des Gardius, The Unbound Masked Beast” to get out and stay out.
you could use cloning with super poly for summoning garura, after all, it shares type and attribute, but not name :P not the best combo, but it would allow you to pop off a monster that's on its own on the field or an boss monster that can't be easily destroyed.
Shining Dragon was a great card for overkill in early casual play. A BEWD deck would already have the summoning conditions within reach around the same times it'd have victory within reach. Sometimes fun to waste a turn or two for style while the other kid prays for a topdeck.
In other videos you have included cards solely for their historical background. In this case, I think that should have saved CED from getting a spot on this list. Yes, the errata made it terrible, but it has a legacy that few other cards have and you could have included something that has never been good like Rabid Horseman or Ring of Defense instead.
The funny thing about Negate Attack is that it's one of the better attack disruptors in the anime since a whole bunch of players have either attack negates that pay resources to block one attack unlike Negate Attack, which ends the entire Battle Phase, or worse versions of Negate Attack. Ex: Doodlebook - Uh uh uh! When a "Doodle" monster you control is targeted for an attack: Negate that attack. (Got buffed in TCG because this is unbelievably awful.) Compensation Exchange When a monster you control is targeted for an attack: Negate the attack, and take damage equal to that target's ATK. Amorphous Barrier Activate only while you control 3 or more monsters. Negate the attack of 1 opponent's monster and end the Battle Phase. When this card is sent to the Graveyard, you can Tribute 1 monster to return this card to the top of the Deck. Deep Current When an opponent's monster declares a direct attack: Negate the attack, and if you do, end the Battle Phase.
Cloning could have a really cool extra effect, like the clonned monster cannot activate its effect while the token remains on the field Knowing how many starters need the normal summon
Wicked Worm Beast is also pretty bad. It returns to the hand while not having the benefit of being part of the Spirit "type", so it can't benefit from the support for it. I don't think Cloning should be on the list when Wicked Worm Beast isn't, but I couldn't agree more with the number 1 slot.
Hi there! Always enjoy your videos, and your comments help me keep track of the changes still happening to the game... but, sorry, this time I don't agree with your list, not completely. Though I agree that some of Kaiba's cards were only good due to this or that trick that was anime exclusive (like your choice for number one, with which I agree), some of your choices for this list aren't fair. If you consider 'nowadays', then that's it. But having in mind the moment when Kaiba used most of these cards, then, nah. He was right to keep them, and they were not even close to being 'the worst'. And, yeah, I'm looking at your number 10... but not stopping there, no. Sorry, just had to take that out of my chest. Keep on with the good work, and trusting the Heart of the Cards ^_^
10:55 This gives me an idea for a Mystical Elf retrain that combines the effects of various related cards into it: _Blue-Eyes Mystical Elf_ (LIGHT) Level 4 Spellcaster/Tuner/Effect _You can change this card’s battle position immediately after it’s summon. Can be treated as 2 tributes for the summon of a “Blue-Eyes” monster. You can apply each of the following effects of “Blue-Eyes Mystical Elf” once per turn (Quick Effect):_ ⚪️Add 2 cards from your hand to your opponent's hand, then draw 2 cards. ⚪️Increase your Life Points by 300 for each card on the field. ⚪️During a turn in which a monster on the field is destroyed, target 1 level/rank/link 8 monster you control: During the next turn it declares an attack, it can attack twice. ATK/800 DEF/2000
13:10 Idea for an improved version: _Perfected Cloning_ Trap Card _You can pay half your LP to activate this card from your hand. If your opponent Summons a monster: Target that face-up monster; Special Summon 1 "Clone Token", with the same original Type, Attribute, Level/Rank/Link, ATK, and DEF as that target. When that target is leaves the field, destroy this Token._
Help me understand something. "Also makes it virtually impossible for you to search for CED, set up your GY for its summon, or do anything else if you want to use its effect." Are you saying that if you want to summon or use any of the effects you basically have to already have your GY set up and CED in hand? Basically a long term set up before using it? Cause the way the effect is worded seems that you just can't activate pther effects if you use CED's effect. Which there are plenty of strong monsters with a restriction like that.
I like the fact also that Kaiba in the movie wants to use return from the different dimension to summon yugis godcards, return doesnt really work that way right? maybe it has a different effect in the anime, I dunno
Masked Beast Des Guardius shouldnt count since Kaiba never actually used it. He just put it in his deck, so he could take it out to go first in the battle royale. His whole plan was to never use it.
Chaos Emperor Dragon should have gotten an errata in order to exit the banlist, but that kind of nefr is terrible. If it was me, the changes would be: A) The monsters you banish in order to summon him must be Dragons. B) You can only control one copy (or even better, it should be up to one). C) You can only Summon only one, pur turn. If you would Summon it and your opponent would return it to the hand, you would be able to do it again that turn. D) His effect would be a hard once-per-turn.
5:31 Idea for a shining dragon retrain: _Blue-Eyes Iridescent Dragon_ (LIGHT) Level 10 _Dragon/Effect_ _Cannot be normal summoned/set. Must be special summoned by it’s own effect. You can tribute 1 “Blue-Eyes” extra deck monster you control (Quick Effect): Special summon this card from your hand or GY. Gains 300 ATK/DEF for every card in the GY. When a card or effect is activated that targets any number of “Blue-Eyes” cards from your hand, field or GY (Quick Effect): You can negate that effect._ ATK/3000 DEF/2800
Literally over 90% of the cards on this list are not applicable to the cards depicted in the anime, as they are either changed/nerfed upon being imported to the TCG/OCG.
11:43 Just for clarity's sake, Kaiba did NOT threaten to jump from the castle walls if Yugi didn't let him win. Rather, Kaiba strongly implied that if Yugi went through with his attack that it just MIGHT blow him off the wall and to his death.
Kaiba was just so petty he added a healing trap to his deck just to negate the minimal damage Yugi could inflict to him after he established his virus.
A Blue Eyes Shining Dragon would be nice. I like the protection and attack gain, and the pop would be a nice, but I admit it needs a boost. 1. The summon requirement needs to change. I want to leave it as a main deck monster, so no funny borders. Maybe something like, "Tribute a level 9 or higher Blue Eyes monster to special summon this monster from your hand or deck." From the deck may be overkill, butane effect can be nerfed before release. Also means that is can be special summoned or normal summoned. 2. "Gain 300 attack for each dragon in each player's GY." Because your opponent should be punished for every dead dragon. 3. "Negate and destroy an opponents card that affects this card." Remove targeting. 4. "Tribute this card, Destroy one card on the field and deal 3000 damage to your opponent." Pop and burn. Could banish as well, but almost certainly needs a once per turn limit. I don't think a soft limit will work. The burn can also be reduced. Name Blue Eyes Shining Burst Dragon?
Opponent card that affects this card? I have never heard of a card with such protection. They all either negate targeting or are unaffected. Negating effects that affect it means it would be able to negate almost any opponent non targeting card. Stuff like Raigeki or anything that affects all monsters on one side or the entire field even would be negated. Leaving this without an OPT would make Shining the strongest negate in the game. And since you also gave it a bigger ATK boost, you also removed any possibility to beat by battle. The only way left is to tribute it.
@@roncerjani9063 Be for I say anything else, thank you for your time. So how would your rewrite the negate effect? I wrote it with a few design goals in mind and it over preformed. My design goals were It cannot be unaffected by card effects. It must protect against non-targeting and targeting effects. It must be able to respond multiple times a turn. It must negate. It must be weak to spell speed 4. I agree that being able to protect the entire board from wipes is a bit much. How bad is opening the attack gain to your opponent's graveyard? That is a condition based on your opponent's deck is normally unreliable for deck buildings unless built around. Not trying to talk down to anyone, I honestly want to know. I want to learn more about design. Again thank you for your time, and helping me.
@@gmradio2436 I honestly don't like negates much, but I'd say that he should have a similar thing to the new BEWD+BLS Fusion. This is my idea for a Special yet daunting Bewd Shining. Gains 300 ATK for each Dragon in hand and GY. This card can attack a number of times each Battle Phase up to the number of the following effects that were not activated this turn. You can only use each of these effects once per turn. 1. (Quick) This card becomes unaffected by other card effects 2. Negate the activation of a card 3. Destroy 1 card on the field. 3 good effects, but using all 3 makes this card unable to attack. If you don't need to use any, you can attack 3 times. Fun isn't it?
@@roncerjani9063 Those are good effects. Not going to lie. That is a good way to boost the attack, but doesn't it run into an issue of secrets information and the ability to check information? I don't think I have seen a card that gave a boost like that without revealing the hand. I will be honest, 1 and 2 are good, but I don't want them on Shining. Just being unaffected is something I want to avoid, and a generic 'NO' is something I don't want to add. My only issue with 3 is it doesn't tribute itself. The supposed ace move of Shining. I am trying to stay on theme for Shining, and Shining was kind of a solo monster. It normally does not care what your opponent does unless they touch it, or it blew itself up. Thoughts on the summon conditions? Effect still sounds awesome. Blue Eyes Raging Burst Dragon maybe? Make it its own ace monster. Again, thank you for the reply.
@@gmradio2436 Then my only suggestion is to banish a Dragon from hand or GY to negate an effect. You can use it multiple times, but need to be careful not to make him lose too much ATK. Also you can Tribute it to nuke the field, and then Summon from GY during End Phase alla Stardust Dragon.
CED spot would have been taken by any Normal monster used by Kaiba, since even with its nerfed effect, it is 3k special summonable beatstick. On the other hand cards like Gadget Sodier, Sword Stalker could be dead draws if there is no monsters to tribute for their summon. One can also argue that Ring of Defense is also a useless card unless paired with Ring of Destruction, so it could deserve a spot in this list
Why does Cloning have the specification that the cloned monster has to have a Level? Only Xyz and Link monsters don't have a level, but those can only be Special Summoned anyways.
I dont understand the yata lock technique. If you play chaos emperor dragon, all cards in the hands and field are destroyed, so then how do you get yata out after this effect is triggered to attack your opponent directly?
I really hate what they did to chaos emperor dragon with the awful errata. They really spit in the face of history of how it played a role in creating the banlist. I prefer seeing it stayed banned in the banlist for historical reasons than today which is now just a shadow of it's former self.
What really hurts more than anything else is that it's pretty much unplayable now because of the restriction they put on it's effect when they errata'd it. Chaos Emperor Dragon is sadly just not worth playing anymore, unfortunately
I remember winning 2v1s solely because CED was just that powerful
Erratas are better than having more cards that are essentially a waste of paper because they can't be played.
@@ratman262Erm, no?
This could be fixed by giving the card another errata make it so you can’t use card effects AFTER you use CED effect
Fun fact: in at least some of the older video games, the AI is programmed to surrender if you manage to pull off the Yata Lock.
In current games like legacy of the duelist the duel will automatically end due to it.
Yes it's a special winning condition in the Tag Force series.
Nightmare Troubadour, World Championship 2007 and 2008, and GX: Spirit Caller (all DS games) are some examples.

Kaiba would never waste his time with Masked Beast Des Gardius. He would just put it in his breifcase and forget about it.
But he did include it in his deck (maybe to show off that he's the best regardless how many bricks he runs; or the tournament rules kind of demanded that your deck changes according to the opponents you defeat; it helped that the Masked Beast is not a Nomi in the manga).

Surprised Saggi the Dark Clown didn't make the list. He still uses that card even in Dark Side of Dimensions.
It was a low stat low level monster that was pretty reliable for him and in game at one point before the legend of blue eyes pack it was ok
He usually used it in combination with a spell or trap card that it was perfect for
It was funny seeing Kaiba lose against Pegasus, only bringing back Saggi due to the virus wiping out every powerful monster in his deck.
The existence of rescue rabbit makes all low-level normal monsters more useful than any other card in this list.
If DuelLogs didn't include Beaver Warrior or Horn Imp for Yugi, he shouldn't include Saggi. That's all there is to it.
Definitely! And Judgeman
i think so too, all those card could become an interesting archetype just like the Seiyaryu and the Starry Dragon

Minimum Saggi could get a retrain based on the "Eyes of Blue" archetype.
Especially considering Saggi Even appeared in Dark Side of Dimensions to activate a Trap Card (Dark Sacrifice)
Just make Saggi a trap searcher for traps that requires you to tribute a monster whose description is basically Saggi (Level 3 or lower DARK Spellcaster with 1500 or less DEF).

It says a lot that even a video about Kaiba’s worst cards shows how much of a tactical genius he was. GOAT.
Anime Shining can be revived from the grave so Kaiba didn't even need Ultimate to summon it, this list is dumb.
Yeah, they're applying modern standards to 20 year old cards. When the game has power crept hard.
I like how chaos emperor dragon in the last turn crashed into his Opponent card just for his blue eyes to get the dub
we need a retrain of pyramid of light with the effects being "When this card is activated destroy and banish all level 10 or higher monster on the field.
I really wish Pyramid of Light/Sphinx decks were a thing. I think it'd be a really cool archetype retrain.

It is kinda unfair. I mean for example, "Cloning" was made in a time when normal and flip summons were common, not during a time when you normal summon one monster, to special summon 20 more. A list of bad cards in the last 1 - 2 years or cards that were always bad, would be more interesting.

@@youtube-kit9450 good job at speaking while your head is shoulders deep in your nethers assvlown.
I mean, Seto did use the card for a duel. Just not by playing it.
LK Atem: "hey, joey, guess what?"
Joey: "what?"
LK Atem: "watapon"
For example:
Negate Attack was a solid card around 2003 when it was first released.
@@skin_rg I did write "it was past any real usefulness when it was first printed in 2008."
Honestly, the only card I would really question putting on the list is Chaos Emperor Dragon, as it's only the retrain that was bad and the one Kaiba used by way before that, when it's effect actually broke the game.
i seriously wish that shinning dragon will get a retrain, to actually make it the strongest blue-eyes monster
I'd like to think the terrible cards Kaiba keeps in his deck are to remind him of Mokuba

The Pyramid of Light sphinx strategy is really terrible, but a little legacy support with a field spell (or some continuous spell that can be Pyramid of Light) and some rank 10 support might be fun to play. The sphinxes would already be solid extenders.

0:25 It hurts my soul to see CED in a worst list (keep in mind that by the time of the GX anime, the pre-nerf CED was outright BANNED for the same reasons the real life version was)….
I feel like having CED to the list was just to make it feel "unique". Kaiba had some pretty bad cards even for the time they were out.
I wish that Shining dragon gets a comeback now with the new fusion support
A retrain that uses any Blue eyes monster as a tribute would be nice pretty much anything that removes its status as a Nomi would be great

Boar Soldier's best use is normal summoning it while you have a Meklord Emperor in your hand.
Not fair for Chaos Emperor Dragon to be considered bad, because of the errata, event Kaiba couldn't predict that F
22:05 Idea for a “Pyramid of Light” retrain that makes “Sphinx” cards a proper archetype:
_Sphinx’s Pyramid_
Continuous Trap
_This card’s name is always also treated as “Pyramid of Light”.
I'll give you a hint for the CED: It works great with spatial collapse. (I'm still more bummed out by the spell of pain errata)
15:16
I wanna try a batch of retrains for each of these three cards…
_Melchid, The Fourfold Masked Beast_ (DARK)
Level 4
Pendulum scales: 9
_You can apply 1 of the following effects of “Melchid, The Fourfold Masked Beast” per turn:_
⚪️You can Shuffle 1 monster from your hand or field into your deck: Add 1 “Mask” card to hand from your GY.
Fiend/Pendulum/Tuner/Effect
_This card’s name is also treated as “Melchid the Four-Face Beast” while face-up on the field or in the GY. You can apply 1 of the following effects of “Melchid, The Fourfold Masked Beast” per turn:_
⚪️Declare this card’s name: This card can attack 4 times in a row this turn.
ATK/1500 DEF/1200
_Gyura, The Elder Masked Beast_ (DARK)
Pendulum Scales: 0
_You can apply each of the following effects of “Gyura, The Elder Masked Beast” once per turn:_
⚪️Tribute 1 monster from your hand or field: Activate 1 “Mask” spell/trap card from your hand or deck.
⚪️Tribute 1 Spell/Trap card from your hand or field: Special Summon 1 “Mask” monster from your hand, deck or Pendulum zones.
Fiend/Pendulum/Tuner/Effect
_This card’s name is also treated as “Grand Tiki Elder” while face-up on the field or in the GY. You can apply each of the following effects of “Gyura, The Elder Masked Beast” once per turn:_
⚪️Target 2 cards on the field: Neither target cat target each other for attacks or card effects for the rest of the turn.
⚪️Target 1 monster on the field: That target losses 100 ATK/DEF at the end of every phase. If that target has 0 ATK or DEF at the end of a phase: Destroy it, then you can draw 1 card.
ATK/1500 DEF/800
_Des Gardius, The Unbound Masked Beast_ (DARK)
Level 4
Fiend/Effect
_This card’s name is always also treated as "Masked Beast Des Gardius". If this card that was first summoned by it’s own effect leaves the field: Target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; equip 1 "The Mask of Remnants" from your Hand, Deck or GY to it._
ATK/3300 DEF/2500
So basically, as long as the 2 revamped level 4 monsters are face-up on the field in some capacity, Des Gardius would be able to repeatedly summon itself during either players turn, while still being able to invoke “The Mask of Remnants" over and over to potentially steal multiple of your opponent’s monsters. Meanwhile the level 4’s are now pendulum tuners with effects based off of their normal monster flavor texts, while them being pendulum allows them to more easily be on the field for “Des Gardius, The Unbound Masked Beast” to get out and stay out.
Des Gardius can be summoned in a rabbit deck. That's kinda cool, just a neat little gimmick
Can you do a top ten powerful cards that came from awful sets?
you could use cloning with super poly for summoning garura, after all, it shares type and attribute, but not name :P not the best combo, but it would allow you to pop off a monster that's on its own on the field or an boss monster that can't be easily destroyed.
Ex:
Doodlebook - Uh uh uh!
When a "Doodle" monster you control is targeted for an attack: Negate that attack.
(Got buffed in TCG because this is unbelievably awful.)
Compensation Exchange
When a monster you control is targeted for an attack: Negate the attack, and take damage equal to that target's ATK.
Amorphous Barrier
Activate only while you control 3 or more monsters. Negate the attack of 1 opponent's monster and end the Battle Phase. When this card is sent to the Graveyard, you can Tribute 1 monster to return this card to the top of the Deck.
Deep Current
When an opponent's monster declares a direct attack: Negate the attack, and if you do, end the Battle Phase.
Cloning could have a really cool extra effect, like the clonned monster cannot activate its effect while the token remains on the field
Knowing how many starters need the normal summon
10:55 This gives me an idea for a Mystical Elf retrain that combines the effects of various related cards into it:
_Blue-Eyes Mystical Elf_ (LIGHT)
Level 4
Spellcaster/Tuner/Effect
_You can change this card’s battle position immediately after it’s summon. Can be treated as 2 tributes for the summon of a “Blue-Eyes” monster. You can apply each of the following effects of “Blue-Eyes Mystical Elf” once per turn (Quick Effect):_
⚪️Add 2 cards from your hand to your opponent's hand, then draw 2 cards.
⚪️Increase your Life Points by 300 for each card on the field.
⚪️During a turn in which a monster on the field is destroyed, target 1 level/rank/link 8 monster you control: During the next turn it declares an attack, it can attack twice.
ATK/800 DEF/2000
I remember pulling Boar Soldier out of a pack back in the day, reading it, and saying, “WTF is this piece of crap?”
For Virus Cannon when Kaiba used it against Ishiuz, it was Destroy 10 Spell cards!
13:10 Idea for an improved version:
_Perfected Cloning_
Trap Card
_You can pay half your LP to activate this card from your hand. If your opponent Summons a monster: Target that face-up monster; Special Summon 1 "Clone Token", with the same original Type, Attribute, Level/Rank/Link, ATK, and DEF as that target. When that target is leaves the field, destroy this Token._
Help me understand something.
"Also makes it virtually impossible for you to search for CED, set up your GY for its summon, or do anything else if you want to use its effect."
Are you saying that if you want to summon or use any of the effects you basically have to already have your GY set up and CED in hand?
If it was me, the changes would be:
A) The monsters you banish in order to summon him must be Dragons.
B) You can only control one copy (or even better, it should be up to one).
C) You can only Summon only one, pur turn. If you would Summon it and your opponent would return it to the hand, you would be able to do it again that turn.
D) His effect would be a hard once-per-turn.
I use CED in my Blue-Eyes deck as a quick additional tribute for Odd-Eyes Advance Dragon.
5:31 Idea for a shining dragon retrain:
_Blue-Eyes Iridescent Dragon_ (LIGHT)
Level 10
_Dragon/Effect_
_Cannot be normal summoned/set. Must be special summoned by it’s own effect. You can tribute 1 “Blue-Eyes” extra deck monster you control (Quick Effect): Special summon this card from your hand or GY. Gains 300 ATK/DEF for every card in the GY. When a card or effect is activated that targets any number of “Blue-Eyes” cards from your hand, field or GY (Quick Effect): You can negate that effect._
ATK/3000 DEF/2800
Going back into the Lab and being a true Kaiba player again. I wont be STOPPED!
Thats the dub saying that. Not the original show or manga.
Kaiba was just so petty he added a healing trap to his deck just to negate the minimal damage Yugi could inflict to him after he established his virus.
I honestly hope we get a retrain of Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon at some point.
My design goals were
It cannot be unaffected by card effects.
1. (Quick) This card becomes unaffected by other card effects
2. Negate the activation of a card
My favorite thing about Duel Logs is you'll be like "Alright let's start Kaiba's top 10 WORST cards with number 10, the game's first tier-0 card!"
6:14 just use cyber-stein (with witch sungan or tomato) and distention capsule if you don't draw them to get it out in 2 turns.
Why does Cloning have the specification that the cloned monster has to have a Level? Only Xyz and Link monsters don't have a level, but those can only be Special Summoned anyways.
You should do the best and worst cards for Yusei Fudo.
I dont understand the yata lock technique. If you play chaos emperor dragon, all cards in the hands and field are destroyed, so then how do you get yata out after this effect is triggered to attack your opponent directly?
14:53 I mean, Kaiba was playing a pretty different YGO that wasn't as heavily extra deck focused.
