Just fyi, You put the terra-cotta pots on your stakes so that when you cover your bed with protection netting, the stakes don’t go through the netting.

9:10 Dahlia Blue Boy, if you look at the card, they have adjusted the contrast to make it look blue. Always look at the color of the leaves to check if the color is fake. On the card, they are lime green.

Guess I’ll have to think about deer proofing my dahlias next year. Another person did comment that Monty Don uses those terra cotta pots as toppers on stakes to keep the netting from falling on what’s below. Worth a watch.

Amazing Dahlias!! You have some of my favs that I have as well. Tie between penhill watermelon & labyrinth but penhill lasts over a week in a vase so edges out. RIP City is outstanding you should try it for deep dark color, Linda's baby is great...I wasn't able to get Cafe but will next season and now wrote down a couple of yours I want to try. When will you be lifting the tubers? I'm planning on next weekend. Anyway as usual thanks for sharing your gorgeous flowers with us😊

We planted just one city light lavender pink dahlia from a nursery pot in early April in North Carolina. After the 4 blooms died off, the plant grew wider and wider with no new blooms but lots of green leaves. Filling up the spaces in our butterfly garden. Don't know if we should trim back some of the green leaves or wait and see what happens. It is now early summer and temperatures have reached 85-90 degrees on some days. What do you think we should do? We are fearful it might take up too much space. Thanks

When did you plant your tubers? I am also in 6b (lower Hudson Valley). We just missed a frost last week but now the temps have warmed so I hope we have a bit of a reprieve. I have deer but I think the groundhogs were responsible for mowing down one of my dahlia borders. I used wire cages to protect the others and will provide more protection next year. It's always something.... Thanks for the video.

Noticed several varieties displayed weak stems and necks causing the flower heads to droop down. Do you think that was due to growing conditions or varietal genetics? If you are growing for cut flowers, this might be an important consideration.

    • @HookedandRooted

Hi there, My vegetable garden where I have them planted, has been losing sunlight over the last few years due to some growing trees casting more shade. I do believe that its possible that they aren't getting as much sun as they should be. Also, we had a very hot dry summer, and they could have used more water. I just grow them for myself, and gift some flowers as bouquets. I agree, it could be an important consideration if I was selling them. Thank you.

Hello! The terracotta pots are decorative, but also, can be used when gardeners drape insect netting over the plants, it helps the netting or fabric not rip on the stakes. You would hang the fabric over the pots.
