as a canon r5 owner, I can say that the r5 is truly an amazing camera, but do to the price of lenses, im actually selling my camera for a fujifilm xh2. the lenses are just more affordable for me at this time right now. plus i love the files and colors of the fuji more.

This is why many have switched. But just keep in mind that there are compromises, mostly in the AF speed/accuracy. Also, the larger sensor gives more latitude for editing. But those Fuji colors! They are the best.

We use Sony α1, Sony α7RV and Fuji X-H2. They are all good cameras. Sony AF is better; Fuji color is better. Some great choices compared to a few years ago. Focus breathing comp (α7RV only) a nice feature that should be on the α1. DR comp on Fuji actually not bad.

I moved to fuji not because a budget reason, but because I do love its natural colors (and their damn good film simulations), its aesthetic and lightweight. I enjoy way more shooting with Fuji than with Canon.

I think that when it comes to pros they can make any camera do a great job. And, with portraits/head shots, lighting skills could be more important than what the camera can do. As an amateur, cost is a much bigger factor than it is for a pro whose equipment will be paid for through client work. I researched the cost of lenses before choosing a camera and Fuji's performance for the money really made a difference there. At some point down the road I will probably want to upgrade my X-T3, but for now it's just fine. Hopefully, there will be some great used deals on the X-T5 some day! Have a great day Pete!

Both cameras, no doubt can do a wonderful job in the hands of a competent photographer. I invested heavily in the Fuji lens lineup, as Canon RF lenses became cost prohibitive for me. I still would like for Fuji to continue to improve their autofocus algorithms, particularly for sports/ action photography. Overall I have been satisfied with Fuji & although I loved shooting with Canon camera bodies & “L” lenses, I do not regret switching to the Fuji ecosystem. Nice job on this video, Pete. Best wishes for your channel.😊

PickmePete , hi from Uruguay :) I am and old user of Fujifilm and it took me a full year to make the decission, of throwing into the pool of the xh2. I have the xt4 which I used since it came out! I love my Fuji's, and I was on the verge of the Canon r5, finally and as I am very used to Fuji, have lenses etc, got that one. It came on Christmas!!! Thank you for the comparison! I love the colors of Fuji, and I get a lot more detail with another program, which is the old Silkypix, then I go with the Tiff or Dng to LR or PS. Thank you for your review!!!! I loved it, New sub here. Happy New Year!.

Hey Pete , great video bro. I have been making videos/ documentaries for the last 5 years with a Lumix S5 and BMPCC4K. I do a small amount of photography on a Classic canon 5D DSLR. So far all haS been good. But by the end of this year i can get plan to sell all my cameras and video gear🎉 and buy a Fuji XH2 with a collection of XF lenses. When I said atphotography in the past, Fuji were the only brand to inspire my creativity and while my S5 is a great FF camera for photo , i find that inspiration and creativity to be more important to me as an artist than having F.F or a few more pixels. But that just me and that's why I can wait to get the Fuji XH2 at the end of the year. BTW. Amazing portrait Pete truly inspiring .

I’ve pretty much shot everything. From Sony, Nikon, Fuji and most recently Canon.
I love Canon but the price of admission is just way too high. I found myself stretching my budget everytime. I got the R7 and was happy with it for a few months but that brings me back to the X-H2. Since I’m already at APSC, why not go with a much better ecosystem for cost.

    • @PeteCocoPhoto

Jesse I agree completely, and for the work I do, Fuji X Series does the job just as well as a Canon full frame.

  • @MichaelLaing71

Really impress with your work, great images. I am currently running 3 systems (It isn't worth me selling my Nikon D850 and lenses), with the X-H2, and GFX100s being my main systems and my assistant is using a Canon R5, so I know the camera well.
The reality is really there are no really bad mirrorless cameras now days, with the camera companies having a pretty good handle on all areas of design. The Canon R5, is a more practical camera, but the X-H2 is slightly smaller and I am a big fan of their f2 primes, which really make the Fujifilm X system portable.
What I don't like about the X-H2 are the front and back dials, which just don't feel as nice as the X-H1 dials. Personally, I also much prefer the LCD of the X-H1 but I understand, why Fujifilm put in a Flippy screen.
The Canon is very nice and whilst I am not a Canon fanboy, I do think they did an exceptional job with the camera.
So anyone wanting to buy should think about what they are going to be shooting and also realise that pixel peeping is a mugs game. People viewing the images are going to be happy with either companies images but the Canon will have a small advantage in low light and dynamic range.

    • @PeteCocoPhoto
      @PeteCocoPhoto  9 місяців тому

So true. It's funny how much photographers obsess about all of this stuff and very impractical. I am eventually going to go with a GFX system not for more pixels but for the increased dynamic range.

  • @MichaelFrederickPhoto

We have discussed the RF lens vs EF adapted cost to performance several times. What photographers vs clients see are not the same. My reasoning for adding the XH2 to my rig was really about the in-camera recipes that need little to no editing for PERSONAL use. The R6/105mm is my paid client portrait headshot go to when I am willing to spend the time to edit. For my personal work, I want to do as little post shoot work as possible. Later this year I am hoping to add an adapted Sigma 50-100 to the XH2 and see how that works for headshot work. For someone starting over 100% say due to theft/damage. Going to the more expensive full frame might not be the best option. That being said, I would LOVE a Nikon Z8 and Z70-200 but my bank acct says NO! :)

This is a great point, Mike! I find that the XH2 or XT5 are both great for my studio work and personal use. There's no comparison when taking a camera on the go though - Fuji colors just rock and the SOOC results can't be beat.

Thanks for the in depth review. As a portrait and family photographer, I need to deal with a lot of different skin tones, I found the raw out of camera color gamut and skin tones superior on the Fuji then any other systems & i used to own R5/R6 i also have colleagues that have loaned me to test on their Nikon D850s and Sony A7r4, but I still keep going back to my Xt4 or XH2, i never owned any RF glass but i did have the Sigma which were extremely sharp, even still i found the latest Fuji 33mm f1.4 wr, 56mm f1.2 wr and the 90mm f2 have the perfect rendering for skin tones a lot cheaper then most RF glass.

As far as I can tell, pros can spend the time correcting in post, which is why they choose FF with better low light, detail and autofocus. As an amateur I simply don’t have the time or the inclination to spend my life in post. I shot with Canon for many years but the colours were horrible and flat. In 2016 I switched to Fuji XT-1 and I loved it for its ergonomics, style and film sims. But it is getting old and today I’m buying an XH-2, it’s decided.

Ive had both .. The XH2 with the viltron pro 75 and 27 ... it really makes the image quality VERY close comparison. Is the R5 with the 85 1.2 pro probably higher image quality than the XH2 with a viltrox 75 ... probably- but ONLY if you zoom in and at 2-3x of the price. Handling is great on both. Video is better on the Fuji. Size and weight is better on the Fuji. Hey Pete. Prior to trading out my equipment to my current Fuji X-T5, I owned the Cannon R, which was a great camera. It was my first pro-quality camera set up and due to the insane cost of Cannon RF lenses, I chose to use an adapter and bought a few of the EF lenses (Canon 24-105 L Series, nifty 50, and a Sigma 18-35mm F1.8). While these lenses were less expensive than their RF counterparts, the extra length and overall weight of the rig was ridiculous for carry during hikes and events. Even in galleries museums etc viewing distance is important, in print people look at the whole photo not a tiny section zoomed into 300%
Value to me (as a professional) = Will it make me more money

Now im struggling with how to proceed...Sony Cameras are crazy expensive and i dont enjoy the Result NEARLY as much as what the X-T5 delivers. Wouldve never considered it bec. of Worms and low rez, but now with 40mp and no more Lightroom wormies their Colour palette is an absolute JOY to edit. And no, no matter if i edit an image for over 20minutes, i will NEVER get Sony Skintones to where Fuji is, nor their Rendition of Greens and blues, Fuji has that secret sauce...
BUT: I know, i will not proceed with Sony for Photography as Fuji save me HOURS of editing time, but i wonder, if Canon is the best of both worlds: Good Colors AND FF/High end...Problem is their Lens lineup is Dog-Shite compared to Fuji or ofc. Sony...

Previously, I owned the X-S10 and Fuji was claiming that the new autofocus is a lot better on the new cameras, so instead of changing system then and there like I planned, I gave fuji another chance. I'd say their claims and demo videos are very misleading and don't represent, what the camera is capable of. The tracking always seems to work great, but lots of images are still not in focus despite the box being on target and green, confirming focus. Of course, they never show the actual results, only the tracking.
For studio work and portraits, it may be great, for sports and wildlife, not so much, sadly.

I totally get it. For portraiture it doesn't make a noticeable difference as you mentioned. Personally, I have not had issues of the box being on target while the focus is off, but I have heard others mention it. The other thing is that it depends on which lens you are using. Some Fuji lenses struggle while others do a much better job. This really hurts them because I can use my 15 year old Canon lenses on the R5 and they do an amazing job with AF and quality.

@@PeteCocoPhoto I mainly do wildlife, used the XF 100-400 and the Tamron 150-500, and had these issues with both. I can usually get a couple of good shots in nearly every situation, but it seems like the focus is constantly going back and forth, even on static birds on a stick. And as I mentioned, as soon as there's any action, there's barely anything on focus. Considering I spent 2300€ on a high end APS-C camera, that just isn't good enough. Hope the Z8 won't let me down like that, until the new 180-600 starts shipping, I don't have any lens to try it out though. 🤣😅

@@cy9nvs I just got a Canon R8 & 100-400 for review and I did some birding yesterday. I must say that I'm incredibly impressed. The AF is amazing and there's no pulsing or anything. And this is a stripped down camera that costs $1500. I think you will be very happy with the performance of the Z8 from what I've heard. I tested the Tamron as well and it's a nice lens but it didn't blow me away.

@@cy9nvs Curious to hear how you've liked the Z8. I just listed all my Fuji gear and will either be going Z8 or A7R5. The Z8 batter life is a killer, and I like the Sony size and LCD layout. That said, I enjoy Nikon colors and ergos. Have you been happy with the switch, or do you miss your Fuji gear? Thanks!

    • @cy9nvs
      @cy9nvs 6 місяців тому

@@RazeTheWeak The battery life is great actually, about as good as that on my old X-H2, I'd say even a bit better. I really don't get the complaints there, I shoot wildlife and haven't once depleted a full battery while outside. I am super happy with the Z8 and the lenses Nikon offers for wildlife. Bought the 180-600 and the 800mm PF and haven't looked back to my old Fuji setup.
But, if you don't do wildlife or sports I'd say the a7rv also is a great choice, only downside is the slow readout speed and low burst rate, both not an issue unless you're capturing action.

i have a 5D Mark IV and a Fujifilm XH2s and comparing both the image quality of canon is better, more detail, it‘s just magical to look. I wanted a Fuji because the R system is too heavy (50mm 1.2 is 1kg!) and also way to expensive, i think the ef lineup was better.

I am a proud xt5 owner and used to have a Sony a74 and a7r3, frankly if I could afford the r5 and especially with a few of their premium RF lenses, I would definitely go their way, the R5 pretty much does it all; high res sensor for landscapes...check, 8k video, 120fps video...check, great dynamic range and low noise...check, superior ergonomics and build quality....check, superior AF system and user interface...check. Don't get me wrong, I do love my Fuji for its colors and manual SLR experience. it's truly a camera that makes you want to shoot and that is its most precious quality!

I’m going to be contrary to some other comments when it comes camera pricing. Others have stated their belief that pros can justify higher prices gear than amateurs. I think as pros we have a business obligation and typically need to justify every purchase against the promise of anticipated future income. Whereas the amateur can much more easily just say “I want that” with no justification other than desire. Of course both have to actually have the funds, and if you don’t then you will have to compromise, but in the end pros typically need a business case where amateurs do not.
