      I'm really satisfied with mine. I've used it extensively over the last 12 months.
      My only complaint is that the textured body covering has started letting go around the grip (making it feel kind of loose and squishy).
      Despite having an X-T5 as a backup/personal camera, I really don't want to lose the use of the X-H2 sending it in for service just to have the grip re-glued (guess that's a sign that I like using it!)
      edit... I use the format shortcut on X-H2 instinctively now. I'm a bit infuriated that the shortcut doesn't work on the X-T5 and I have to go into the menus. (Hoping that the X-T5 gets the format shortcut in an update).
      & glad you mentioned Lexar cards & fuji (I was going to buy some lexar cards... currently using Angelbird CF expressB and Sandisk SD without freezing)

      I'm really happy with my X-H2, as a landscape photographer I don't need anything better as a body, I wish for multiple reasons the zoom lenses will be updated in the near future.
      The sensor is amazing, the colors are incredible.

      Thank you for this video. I just got my X-H2 yesterday and watched your LT review. I'm worried about the miss rate on autofocus. You'd think that with a camera like this it will be pretty good and with the technology they would be at least on par with Canon.

    I've had my H2 since its launch, I've used it every day since then, there's not a sign of wear, scratches or internal dust. and I've already taken some rain with a Fujinon 18-135 lens and I didn't have any problems. Your review is fantastic.

    I am a Canon R5 shooter that's contemplating adding Fuji as a second camera system. This is such a valuable perspective. The Lexar card info is "gold". I will probably rent an XH2 and a lens or two for a test drive this spring.

    • @KevinDeal
      @KevinDeal  10 місяців тому +2

      Glad I could help. The summary. R5 has better autofocus and body. XH2 colors look nicer and give me a much closer look to what I picture as my final image.
      I am shooting on the XH2 much more for personal work and the R5 more for paid work.
      Fuji is the perfect second system if you're looking for a change of pace.

    Unlike some other reviews something very important happened to me with yours. First of all, while watching the intro I am not thinking about the camera or lens. I am really appreciating your images, which is something we tend to forget. I have this camera and I didn´ like it at the very beginning because I was coming from a more "traditional" Fuji X-T4 and missed the dials and some other minor stuff, still I got used to this X-H2 really quickly and now I do see it as an extremely capable tool. It has a very clean IQ and it's really impressive not only on paper but in real life scenarios. It's a workhorse for me today.

    Thanks for doing a long term review, they're the most worthwhile.
    Autofocus. I haven't used my X-H2 anywhere as much as I should (shameful) but from experience with the X-T3, I find the autofocus for some reason becomes less "confused" with back button focus. A recent realisation for me which I have to prove more in practice, is to put the camera in manual focus mode, and use the back button for autofocus. This has the great advantage that you can see clearly what subject is really in focus with MF Assist e.g. with focus peak highlight. Focus, then recompose, and the shutter button will do exposure correctly (when e.g. ISO/etc is in auto) with the recomposed frame. More shots can be fired off quicker too without the camera analysing focus in each shot. A different approach to try. Also cool when the focus and exposure points don't coincide in certain creative frames.
    Lexar cards. I've never had the misfortune of Lexar cards playing up in Fujifilm, as before I bought any MILC, *every* Lexar card in my phones would have one or more corrupt area. SanDisk, never. So now way would I use a Lexar card in anything. For the X-H2, I only bought cards that is on the validation list link on the X-H2 Compatibility Chart webpage. Fully reliable.
    With respect to your viewfinder problems, I haven't had problems. Maybe I suggest you could map the "PREVIEW EXP./WB IN MANUAL MODE" to the down D button, and the "NATURAL LIVE VIEW" to the right D button, so these viewing modes can be immediately changed without a disrupting screen ... at least until you've figure what the actual issue is.
    And noise at a bit higher ISO, a life saver is DxO DeepPRIME (reliable) or DeepPRIME XD (even cleaner! but may process natural texture that look like noise in some shots.) But I think you said you like shooting direct to JPGs, which DeepPRIME doesn't process.

    • @KevinDeal
      @KevinDeal  11 місяців тому +2

      I’ve tried the viewfinder suggestions you’ve given with no success. Need to try your AF suggestion.
      Noise doesn’t really bother me that badly to be honest.
      Love your insights. Thank you for taking the time to write them!

      So, have you never had your X-H2 freeze up? I used one for six months, and the number of freezes was quite disturbing. And recalling my days with Canon, there was never ever a single freeze, while every single Fuji camera I owned have had freezes.

  • @GrayGhostDog1

    I own both the X-H2 and X-H2s… they’ve been doing just fine for my use cases. I acquired 2 Delkin Black CFexpress cards on sale and they are performing flawlessly! I moved to Sony for a couple years, but I ultimately ended up going back to Fujifilm for several reasons… one being that I just prefer the images out of their X-Trans sensors.

    • @KevinDeal

      I will always take the look of Fuji over Sony. They nail on the sensors.

  • @SkumleRafte

    I see your positives and negatives are pretty much the same as mine. Also, how the H2 slots in below a GFX line is about the same for me. I did ditch the FF completely though. A combo of H2/H2s does prove to be good enough on speed for me.
    I don't really find the H2s to be better in lowlight unless its autofocus you refer to? in terms of Image quality, I find the 40mp to superior to the 26mp in every case. an oversampled H2 image is better than the 26mp in my opinion.
    I stopped using SD cards in the H2 series altogether, I simply had too many freezes, Sandisk, Sony.. made no difference. Since only using CFexpress I have had no freezes, I lose the redundancy though.
    My biggest wishes for an update are:
    Dual CFexpress (they aren't that expensive anymore)
    Durability on par with D850 or 5D kinda cameras.. honestly H2 is not quite there.
    External ISO dial in one way or another. I had the cameras since release. And I still find it super annoying to toggle the ISO button (at least they could have made it press and hold like Nikon/Canon)

    • @KevinDeal
      @KevinDeal  11 місяців тому +4

      Great list. It's spot on. I would only add Fuji going all in on getting their AF up to par with other systems. If Fuji made their AF on par with Canon and Sony and made their bodies as nice, that could push me over the edge to sell of my entire Canon system.
      I might need to try to ditch the SD and see how my stability changes.
      In reference to my comment about the XH2S being better in low light, I was referring to the benefits of a stacked sensor.
      Thanks for the kind words.

    I’m a Canon R5 shooter and am highly invested in Canon lenses. The reliability and output is outstanding, but I just don’t like carrying it around for casual shooting and post processing is time consuming. I was intrigued by Fuji and picked up an X-S20 for street and casual photos. I got a promotional deal on the body and the 27mm pancake lens. I’ve since picked up a few used lenses as well. It is FUN to shoot. The film simulations and XApp allow me to share finished images quickly and conveniently. People respond very well to the output. It doesn’t replace my Canon but supplements it well. If you want to try Fujifilm at a lower price point, the X-S20 is a great entry point.

    • @KevinDeal
      @KevinDeal  10 місяців тому +2

      I agree. I had the XS10 and I didn't like certain things about it. Mainly the fact that you couldn't program your command dials like Canon. They were backwards (like Nikon). That was a deal breaker for me. So I went out and got the XH2. Of course, the XS20 came out afterwards and it's definitely upgraded. I think they also allow you to program the command dials like Canon now.
      Outside of the Fuji cameras we both use, it sure sounds like we shoot Fuji for the exact same reason.
      If Canon made their STM lenses weather sealed, I could just use those and a small camera like an R8, but instead, you have to buy an L lens, which is the size of a softball to get weather sealing. Lame. But, there's a solution for that - Fuji.

    I do own a the X-H2 as well as the X-H2s and, coming from an X-T3/X-T4 setup the AF performance of both these cameras are just on another level. But I have to admit, since I‘ve also started using the Canon R6 II I get what everybody is saying about Fuji not even being close. I still love my Fujis, but for almost all professional jobs I only use the Canon because it is so incredibly reliable.
    So, I can basically confirm everything you‘ve said.

    • @KevinDeal
      @KevinDeal  11 місяців тому +4

      Agreed. Any time I see someone come to the defense of Fuji's autofocus system they are either 1) a landscape or product photographer, who never really challenges the AF capabilities or 2) a Fuji fanboy who has never tried Canon or Sony. I cannot stress how night and day the difference is between the two systems in terms of AF. I would LOVE for Fuji to catch up. If they did, I could probably sell of all my Canon stuff.
      The crazy thing is that Fuji actually tracks really well, but once it's time to take the picture, something gets screwed up. I would love to see them fix this. I'm rooting for them. But yes, my R5 and R8 are my go to cameras for crucial work still.
      Thank you for kind words and for watching my video!

    Thanks for the review. I am an amateur and have used Olympus/OM System for 10 years. A year ago I got a Ricoh GRIIIx and love it for image quality so I was looking to upgrade my ILC. The XT-5 grip is too small so I'm likely to get the X-H2 with the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 for general work and the Tamron 18-300mm for wildlife. I hope the autofocus isn't too much worse than my OM-1 which has great tracking and autofocus. But the 40 MP sensor is very attractive and I do a lot of landscape, street/urban stuff and think the X-H2 will work fine.

    Excellent video 👍 i have 2 Fuji xh2 cameras i use for event work and they do freeze only when im using on camera flash and as you said its the lexar cards that i use too and maybe switching to another cf express card should solve the problem as at weddings when the couple were going to do the 1st kiss the xh2 froze!! And I nearly traded in my Fuji gear for canon a few times after the disappointments , but like you mentioned it’s the Fuji colours that keep me with Fuji ! My Fuji xt5 never freezes and so I believe it’s the lexar cards that must be the problem.

    • @KevinDeal
      @KevinDeal  11 місяців тому +1

      Having your camera freeze during the first kiss is terrible. I hope Fuji sees that and it motivates them harder to make their cameras have less issues with cards. If they just made their cameras less buggy, improved the body quality and upgraded the autofocus, they would be a much larger part of the market share. I'm definitely rooting for them.

    One of most honest and useful reviews of the X-H2 I’ve found, thank you! Having switched from the Z6ii to the A7iv for AF, Fuji’s AF is what keeps holding me back. We have a large family that start on Fuji Bridge cameras, moving our Fam completely to the X-System makes a lot of sense, but I think Fuji’s AF currently would be frustrating… especially having used the A7iv. Smaller lenses / more reach is my goal at the moment and using the A7RV in Crop Mode may be the best of both worlds… Agree, Fuji really needs to dial in their AF, it’s costing them sales. Thanks again!

    Hi Kevin. Love your channel. I am a “retired” photographer who used Canon Cameras & lenses for the last 40 years. I sold all my Canon gear & moved to Fuji, investing heavily in their lens lineup. I believe many of the Fuji lenses compare favourably with Canon “L” glass. RF lenses are of excellent optical quality but are extraordinarily expensive, IMHO. I shoot on 2 X-T3 bodies with battery grips. The autofocus could be much better & I am hoping that Fuji will “breakthrough” & deliver autofocus performance on par with Canon, Sony & Nikon. Best wishes for your channel & photography buisness.😊

    • @KevinDeal
      @KevinDeal  11 місяців тому

      I own some of that expensive L RF glass and it is better, but not by much. And when you view images the way they were meant to be viewed, you really can't tell the difference. The Fuji sensor, in my opinion looks better than my Canon sensor. It really comes down to the work your doing. For personal work, I'm 100% Fuji. But I shot a wedding last night and my R5 reminded me how amazing Canon is for that type of application.
      I think if Fuji did two things 1) Massively overhauled their AF and 2) Built better bodies, on par with Nikon and Canon they would take over a larger share of the market.

I have been with Fuji for a while and you description of its limitations (as well as the positives) is very fair. I shoot both GFX and X. Each has its purposes but the be 40MP sensor as made the X series a very good second camera for long lenses, which are lacking in the GFX system. I had the XH2, but got stolen (boohoo). Got the XH-2, I was a Nikon hobbyist shooter before. I know very well the limitations you soundly described in this long term review. I confirm the Lexar SD Card dislike the XH-2 or the other way around ? Prograde CF Express Card are a little cheaper than other brands and works perfectly with this camera. Overall I love the colors, the skin tones, reminds me of Nikon D700 I used to have almost 2 decades ago. The photos are not dull, nor clinically correct, they show things differently very hard to describe, maybe there is a cinematographic look & feel in there that talk directly to the heart ?
    I was very reluctant to get this camera because it has so much megapixels but in the long run it turned to be a mind-blowing feature to me because with one lens I can have a macro lens (almost) and a powerful telephoto lens by cropping in post and still retaining enough pixels for larger prints. I found the XH-2 very good in low light as good as my old Nikon D750 at least which have half the pixels ! The IBIS is very efficient I can shoot as slow as 0.25 sec handheld and get perfectly focused shots, I believe I will never go back to a camera without this feature built-in. The auto-focus is on par with autofocus in older DSLR and since I don't get paid for my shots I really don't mind losing some shots, choosing lenses with fast linear motors makes also a big difference in that department.
    I wish also it had the build quality of a pro Nikon body but at that price I don't see how that could be possible given that the XH-2 has all the features a modern camera could offer. I sometimes shoot on film but exclusively on Nikon cameras from the eighties, I like the thrill of shooting evanescent streets events and not knowing immediately if I got it right !

    Tend to believe the AF issue Fuji have compared to other brand, are hardware issues. There is a reason they are fairly cheap. When keeping in camera processes to a minimum you do get better AF.
    I do have some issues with AF on my XH2. But find it natural, since I handheld push the exposure, IS, Iso and shutter speed in lesser ligth condition in the wood. Which I compensate with shooting several shoots on the subjects. Not all get nailed, but those that do have enough exposure without artifacts on L64. Those pictures are really stunningly great, with tact sharpnes on all the 40mp the camera have. Its a bit like walking on a knife edge with the setting, Apsc does need that ekstra exposures, when it get it you wont be able to see which format the image comes from. It will punish you fast on underexposed images with artifacts in the details.
    But I hardly never go out shooting on cloudy days, for the same reason. Those pictures are just a waste on the hardrive. Keeper image are shoot on well exposured sunny days.
    I completely happy with the camera, It does I expected it to do. The only issue I had until now was learning using the pasm dial. Since I came from an XT camera. Else I just love the XH2. How much you can crop it.

    At 12:55, when you comment on the EVF and low-light focus, you're at f9, ISO 125 and 1/200th, in a studio that's evidently quite dark - the EVF increases the ISO to focus, which is why it looks like that, and you have a moving subject that's not always looking at the camera. I can't help to think you're either expecting too much in this situation, or it's artificially created for some reason...

    • @KevinDeal
      @KevinDeal  3 місяці тому

      I'm not really following what you're saying. I have my preview / simulation turned off since it can't predict what my flash will do. So I am asking the camera to just give me a bright image.
      Also, I own other cameras on other systems that don't have this problem. Shooting f/9 in the studio at a low ISO at a camera's shutter synch speed is a pretty common thing.
      I am usually between f/5.6 and f/13 in the studio.
      Are you saying it's unreasonable to expect a camera you paid $2000 for maintain focus on a subject in a studio environment with common studio settings with a modeling lamp on? Because I''ll disagree with you on that all day and show you that my Canon cameras have been able to do this without issue, and I'm willing bet Nikon and Sony owners don't have this issue either.
      Yes, I do expect a camera with common studio settings to work well in the studio. If you disagree about that expectation of a $2000 camera, we can disagree there I suppose.

    One of my biggest gripes is the awful evf and how it gets destroyed in a studio environment, they have had 10 years to sort this from when I actually did one of the 1st Fuji studio workshops for Fuji Uk to demo the xt1 and on that 3 days of workshops I often had to pull out my canon 1dx to save the day. It’s still the same and in some cases worse. I started my career over 30 years ago with Nikon and will be ditching Fuji after there piss poor attempts to fix the AF on both my xh2s and xh2 and we are not talking continuous AF just simple single shot, tells me it’s locked, tells me it’s good to go and it’s either spot on or missed a little bit or by a ball park. It’s a trust thing and loosing that trust. Sensors though on both h2 and h2s are beautiful just a shame that still can’t get the rest right. Out of the two though the xh2s is the one I much prefer but it is still pants in the studio 😢

    • @KevinDeal
      @KevinDeal  8 днів тому +1

      Yeah. When it says I'm locked in at f8 and the model isn't moving, you can understand the disappointment when you take it into post only to find that you missed the shot. Super frustrating. They need to blow it up and hire a new AF team. I always feel like they've been chasing after 2018 autofocus and trying to perfect it while the other companies are inventing what's next.

  • @romo9592

    This pretty much summarizes the Fuji System experience. Fuji is the system for personal work or artistic work. This is often the reason why travel photographers and street photographers like it. I'm in the same boat as most, I love the Fuji experience but understand the autofocus is lacking. I'm pretty old school, I still shoot all my cameras as if they were DSLRs (single point, often in single AF) so I don't typically encounter what others are reporting.
    That said, unfortunately, I don't think that autofocus is Fuji's endgame. The personal pathos is what has kept Fuji in the market. After all, the X100 series is by and large their most far reaching and best selling offering.

    It‘s ok if they make it an option to close the shutter when the camera is off, but the shutter is no protection for the sensor and it is even easier to brake than a sensor. 14:23
    So I woult turn this off on a Canon camera, personally.
    What they should do is design their lenses so the aperture closes, when the camera is off, to protect the sensor from getting burnt in sunshine.
