    What's the best song written in Phrygian?

    • @AF-fb6yp

      Misirlou is great, though Phrygian dominant. Your videos on the modes are very good, especially when you run through chord progressions that work well and provide examples in actual songs 👍

      Misirlou is excellent. (I actually never knew the name of that tune until now.) it has a very distinct sound. And thanks for your feedback!

      Creeping death's die riff is the perfect example of creating that group doom effect from the phrygian mode.

    you have one of the best simple explanations of modal harmony on youtube. would really like to see this same format of video for the other modes of the melodic minor scale. thank you for creating these videos!

    The Andalusian Cadence of Flamenco and other Spanish is Phrygian Dominant and there are numerous examples. Am G F E7 would be an example of the progression in E Phyrigian Dominant. The Tonic is E Dominant. You could have made more a mention of that. Otherwise great video.

    I love the consistency in how you present your information. I'm going through all your videos about the modes and I like how you present the videos in the same format. It really allows the fundamentals to sink in, particularly with how you explain the tertiary links in the same exact way for each video

    A song in E phrygian, occasionally raised F-s, so the V can be used, but never as a cadence avoiding E minor sound. Cadences always from II to i What do you think? Look up the song Elevate from kazohin.

    I have seen chord progression charts utilising the roman numerals to assist in mapping logical movments for major & minor scales.
    Is there one that is specific for Phrygian also?

    Before producing a song, is it wise to decide what mode I want to write in? How do I know which one to choose?

    • @mikegeorge360
      @mikegeorge360  Рік тому

      The choice of mode may be intentional, or you may recognize the mode once the ideas start flowing. My video on the modes in the circle of fifths (editing now) will explain modes in more detail.

    How about Ultra Phrygian and Superphrygian / Phrygian flat 4 ?
    I have problem with functional harmony of harmonic Major
    /ionian b6
    progressions,how to use it etc
    we have dimminished chord on ii and vii
    ...and "iv", if we play (in C ionian b6)
    f,a-flat b
    and "vi"
    B dim,D dim,F dim,Ab dim.
    "vii" is rootless dominant in natural Major
    "ii" is sub dominant ii
    but in harmonic Major "ii" is dimminished chord
    vii,iv and vi also
    so,we have four rootless dominants?
    Three diatonic and one nondiatonic?

    • @mikegeorge360
      @mikegeorge360  2 роки тому +1

      I haven’t yet posted the video referenced at the 11 minute mark. Though I’ll post more on this to clarify-both the harmonic minor scale and how secondary dominants are used in progressions.

    @8:38 How Come You Arrange The Chords In That Trapezoid Configuration?

    • @mikegeorge360
      @mikegeorge360  2 роки тому +1

      This loop shows all notes of the mode arranged into a sequence of tertian intervals (that is, all major-third and minor-third intervals). And once in this configuration, you can see the movement of a progression within the contained region of harmonic space. In the "Modes" playlist, the "Ionian Mode Chords" video explains this looping configuration a bit more starting at 7:17.
