The phrygian dominant scale has a haunting and tense quality that can really add an "exotic" touch to your music, both in terms of melody and harmony.
In this lesson we explore phrygian dominant, starting with its ingredients and then moving on to its application in harmony and melody.
By training your ear to the phrygian sound, as I encourage you to do in this lesson, you'll know when to pull it out of the bag for your lead playing.
Continue your exploration of this wonderful scale on my lesson page, where you'll find backing tracks, diagrams and all the good stuff...

Basically, this is a super scale! It sounds beautiful with the chordal harmony, it's great for tension, AND it's more powerful as a 5 chord. Not many scales hold these combined qualities.

This is the only channel that can somehow make exotic stuff applicable for me, thank you for your work. Your Lydian Dominant and Melodic Minor videos are absolute gold. It’s great that you explain how and where to use these scales while also teaching the theory behind it. These sounds are a lot more accessible to me when given actual examples of them in action.
