Tour guide and comedian, Tom Delgado, gives visitors to New York City some insider tips to help make their experience more enjoyable and also to avoid annoying NYC residents.
Action Kid says the "performers" can be scammers out to rob you. We found New York to be friendlier than we expected it to be. We missed a great deal that I am finding in watching your vlog from the comfort of my home. My tip would be: come prepared to WALK. I was thrilled and would love to come back.
Escalator etiquette - the right side is for standing, the left side is for climbing. Get out of the way of the climbers. Also, if you have food delivered, tips are NOT calculated on a percentage of a check like you would at a restaurant. The babysitter and the iPad are one and the same, no? ; )
What you said also applies to the animals having jerks come and trash their forests with everything from tires, cars, appliances, poop and everything in between. Leave the woods the way you found them...habitat for wildlife. NY needs folks to be neat as well.
🤣 You really ARE funny! Thanks for the tips although I highly doubt I'll ever set foot in NYC. I'm too far away, too crippled, and way too broke although I don't have any kids. 😁
I spent January of 2018 (the year of the bomb cyclone) with my dog. We walked all over the village and downtown and in Brooklyn. I felt like a local. It was awesome! I talked to so many wonderful people who I would not have met otherwise. I don't think I pissed anyone off...unless someone didn't like my dog riding on the subway or the Staten Island Ferry. I did find myself getting annoyed by slow walkers and not going with the flow. It's hard to describe but you know what I'm talking about. There's a rhythm. BTW - The frozen custard is also yummy at Shake Shack.
Agreed !!! If you need to look at a map , get to the side or in an empty doorway . just be careful where you step in those doorways . sometimes people leave souviners in those doorways . Experience talking here .
I was stationed in Kabul for nearly a year 1/10, would not recommend, except for the restaurant outside of my post where you could buy enough goat biryani to feed a small army for $2. That place was dope.
Hi Tom. Your suggestions to tourists make common sense. I learned the same thing from my friend from Brooklyn and from my own experience. I would add another tip, try to dress like n a native New Yorker and not like a touriist. Try to blend in and no one will bother or take advantage of you. Just blend in and you'll be fine. So no souvenir tee shirts or caps. Wear them at home to show people you were there. You don't want to stick out like a sore thumb. Also ,don;;t be afraid to ask for directions, People are friendly and they will help you out. My friend would make fun of me because I came from another place but I did';t get offended by it. I just laughed along with itt. It's like what Don Rickles used to do, it was all in fun.
I have taken my children on most of my vacations and they loved it. When we lived in New Jersey we visited museums and yes we did go to the zoo as well and they loved it
I'm bringing my kids in September. They are 28 and 23 though and they don't know it yet but they are 100% getting "dragged" to Ray's Candy Store. First time for all 3 of us and I cannot wait to further ruin my already ruined Scottish teeth.
Just one to add to your great list , esp. since I got away with it ... When leaving Grand Central Station , or The PORT Authority Bldgs. ... DO NOT LOOK UP !!!
re: Tipping. I get that it's the culture in the US. But when I visited NYC last year, I forgot to tip a few times. Paying by card and not cash usually made me forget. (Apologies to one of the food places in DUMBO!) I would think that signs reminding tourists (like me) what's an acceptable tip would help. If it's 20%, fine. Just remind us :)
It is my understanding it is against the law to tip subway performers and there are cameras all over the subway. Is it one of those laws that no one cares enough to enforce?
@mondblume63 I am referring to performers ON the trains. I got my info. straight from the MTA. I guess you've never heard the announcement... ""“Ladies and gentlemen soliciting money in the subway is illegal,” an MTA announcement drones above the rumbling of the subway. “We ask you not to give. Please help us to maintain an orderly subway.”
I’d like to make a return visit to New York but not until DiBlasio is long gone and the crime rate drops. A lot. I went on my birthday (9/11) back in 2009. It was clean safe and New Yorkers were incredibly nice and hospitable.
Tipping is wrong! Why should I be guilted into paying the wages of business people? If the business can't exist without the general public paying the workers wages, the company shouldn't exist. Simple.
Gee Tom, stop whining! Your lucky to have tourists just like Orlando! Its what makes your city a place that people want to go. It drives your economy too! Have a little patience please.
I have onze tip for you.....Stop telling people what to do or not to do ...... This is so pedantic and arogant !!! Thanks to these tourists you earn your money.
@@davidmoser3535 hypocritical?? Okay for me. I don't like people telling me how to live what to say or what and what to pay for. at most you might be able to give ADVICE. That's friendlier. And since you already know who and how I am I have an ADVICE for you since you let yourself be told everything......... Go f yourself!!!!!
YES! YES! YES!!! To ALL OF THIS! Especially the part about avoiding franchises!!! Shop small and local, eat small and local!!!
And YES to not taking kids to the M&M store!!!
Make this mandatory on every flight to NYC!
I like your directions to the complaint department. Will do.

You said it right about the 5 tips of NYC for visitors! You said it like it is. Great advice for first time visitors to the Big Apple!

Mom and pop shops for sure!

Trees have feelings.

Best video ever!
Looking forward to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade this year!
Enjoying your videos even as a native NYer

Your the greatest Tom....
You clean up really well.
I have taken my children on most of my vacations and they loved it. When we lived in New Jersey we visited museums and yes we did go to the zoo as well and they loved it
Tomm lmaooo
Tip 1 🙌🏻 I wish people remembered this when walking around Melbourne. Stopping in groups in the middle of the footpath 🤦🏼♀️
I'm bringing my kids in September. They are 28 and 23 though and they don't know it yet but they are 100% getting "dragged" to Ray's Candy Store. First time for all 3 of us and I cannot wait to further ruin my already ruined Scottish teeth.
Hi! Great vid! Can you do a tour video on places to visit for kids under 13?
Literally the same steps for being in New Orleans 😂 especially with the kids.
Except for #1 Keep walking, New Orleans is slower, more leisurely, "The Big Easy"
Just one to add to your great list , esp. since I got away with it ... When leaving Grand Central Station , or The PORT Authority Bldgs. ... DO NOT LOOK UP !!!
Do those complaint department folks have a form I can fill out? Should I bring my own pen?
Has bajado mucho de peso...cuando visito NYC bajo un poquito x las caminatas.
pretty good video
Out of many tips videos. This one is the most realistic. Are you a native new yorker?
This boy is funny

It's usually on your receipt
20 procent tip? you better be sucking me off for service!
Some tourists might come from the moon

Lol no way is that enforced.
Kids like Iowa
And yet....I gotta have Popeye's now and then.
this guy looks like Ted Bundy
I feel awkward seeing Eminem at MSG :/

Tell Americans to behave first. They are crowding my street in Singapore too.
Omg 😱 chris your foment is out of place man ! He is talking generally ! Why people prefer to hate omg
Bet they're not New Yorkers though.
by far the most hated tourists on the planet
I live in Nashville ….don’t talk to me about tourists ruining your day lol. BTW New York is dead….ain’t no one going there bud.
wtf is a nashvile?

Then cook your own food when you're in New York because restaurants here already apply the tip to the bill
@@robkeane3197 Not true where I ate.

then get me a new bill that lists the food i ordered only, im not from stupidville dont scam me because youre lazy @@robkeane3197
