    Wow! Kwaku, my patriarchal blessing also does not include a tribe. My patriarch told me that I had "royal blood flowing through my veins" and I was the only person he had ever met who had "the full blood of Joseph" and thus did not belong to any of the 12 tribes. I am a convert of Jewish descent BTW. I also highly doubt the patriarch was aware of my ancestry as I kept it to myself up until after I received my blessing. I have begun re-reading my blessing and attending the temple to meditate on it more and I still have no idea how it pertains to me, but I am now comfortable with my heritage and the culture that I came from and I am compelled to learn more about the tradition of my ancestors and the Old Testament. I also have a testimony of Priesthood power and the importance of patriarchal blessings!

      @@MolyBDenum-lh3wy Not sure how you'd know. I mean some people might literally be able to trace their lineage all the way back to one of the tribes, but that's probably pretty rare. I usually always assume someone's lineage is an adoption. I think it's probably more common than rare.

  • @foster4391
    @foster4391 5 років тому +15

    Taken from the Church website....
    "Declaration of Lineage
    A patriarchal blessing includes a declaration of lineage, stating that the person is of the house of Israel-a descendant of Abraham, belonging to a specific tribe of Jacob."
    Kwaku's blessing is missing the specificness of which tribe he's from or adopted into. I would talk to a patriarch about it.

    • @Cyle-1
      @Cyle-1 3 роки тому +3

      It’s because there is no discernible lineage or tribe in Israel through which he will receive the Abrahamic Covenant. In other words, there is not lineage of Israel in him which means there’s no specific tribal promises and blessings; so you are truly adopted into the Abrahamic Covenant and will receive all of the blessings of the kingdom of god through Abraham rather than through one of the sons of Jacob (Israel) predicated upon your faithfulness. It’s fairly rare but it happens.
      So nothing is really missing from his blessing.

    Jacob did also bless Joseph, and in chapter 49 its Joseph' blessing. he blessed all his sons but Ephraim and Manasseh were adopted and would be called after Jacob's name (Isreal).
    For greater understanding the Lord revealed unto Joseph Smith and restored that which was lost which is found in the JST. 😁😊
    Moses also in his blessing to the tribe of Joseph in Deuteronomy 33:17 "His glory is like the firstling of his bullock, and his horns are like the horns of the wild ox: with them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth: and they are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they are the thousands of Manasseh" Joseph symbol is the ox. Ephraim also received the birthright as the firstborn because Reuben lost it because of his sins.

    The reason the young black man was not given a tribe is because in LDS Black people were not considered when their book was written. So therefore he wouldn’t fit into any predetermined tribe. Now, if he did a deep dive into who the real 12 tribes were...if he is of African-American origin he will come to know that he is of the tribe of Judah. The Native Americans who the LDS church speaks of are from the tribe of Gad.
    This is very clear throughout Exodus and Deuteronomy especially Deuteronomy 28.

    I totally understand keeping things short and sweet but just referencing the Israelites ( 10 Northern tribes btw) being scattered without making a simple reference to why was an oversight imo. Deuteronomy 28, curses of the Israelites. A slight reference to the northern tribes reverting back to certain pagan rituals, therefore breaking God's covenant, leading to their exile and enslavement in lands unknown to their fathers would have been a nice touch. God did lay it all out there.

    The whole tribe business is an inheritance thing. Each of the 12 tribes of Israel was given certain areas of land to occupy depending on their tribe. The 12 sons of Jacob all had land granted to them UNTIL God gave the tribe of Levi the responsibility of the priesthood. The tribe of Levi would be scattered among all the other tribes so they were NOT given a portion of land as an inheritance but were the ONLY tribe given the responsibility of the priesthood. Okay, so the tribe of Ephriam, the second son of Joseph (who was sold into Egypt), received the land as his father's heir because he received the birthright inheritance and why there isn't a tribe of Joseph. His older brother Manasseh is given the land that would have otherwise been given to the tribe of Levi. So there are STILL 12 tribes of Israel...not 13.

    I don't understand how this isn't considered anti-Semitic. There is a huge controversy right now with the documentary about africans and the lost tribes of Israel. Kyrie Irving might lose his job over it. Yet, LDS people can literally believe the same thing and nobody has an issue with it?

    @10:50 leviim and kohanim are definitely still a thing. The kohanim give the priestly blessing several times per year at the major festivals. Fun fact that's where the vulcan salute comes from in star trek.

    • @OhavYisrail
      @OhavYisrail 2 роки тому

      Additionally in an orthodox shul the first torah portion is always given to a kohan and the second to a levi. They also receive some other random liturgical privileges.

    • @OhavYisrail
      @OhavYisrail 2 роки тому

      Clarification; the kohanim give the blessing at most major festivals (pesach, shavuos, etc) in the shul throughout the world. This is part of the Mussaf service, which recounts in exacting detail what would happen on that day at the Temple if it still existed. You will not generally see it in a reform synagogue because they place a higher emphasis on ethics and spirituality than ritual.
      However, at the Kotel (western wall) it is performed every morning. There are some who have even snuck upstairs to the temple mount and performed it there (as inadvisable as that is from both a safety and Jewish law stance).
