We took a train from Bangkok to Mahachai, took a ferry across the river, walked to Ban Laem station, and took the Ban Laem train to the train market. Maybe 5 other tourists there

So how often do the trains run here? Is there only one or two a day? Do they estimate when the trains are expected to clear their stuff away or do they do it when they hear the train coming?
When I was in the military in Bangkok, back in the 60's we used to frequent this place, which was then called the "Railway Hilton".. Only difference being, we certainly didn't go there for the fruit & veg..!! Times are changing..!!

Most of these people come to the market to see the train so if they buy some food there that’s a bonus for the vendors , if they moved the market a lot of these vendors would go out of business. Were I live we don’t really have many markets , only big supermarkets , so if there was a supermarket that had a train going through it , I would certainly use it to buy my groceries.
That's a good distraction for pickpockets to take advantage of . I avoid places like that if I see tourists heading that way I go the opposite direction .
