I love your videos - I'm seeing so many different parts of Malta that I now have a list of places to visit next time I am over there. I'm currently working from home in the UK and have your videos playing in the background all day long so I often watch them more than once!
Malta would be far more beautiful if they start shooting the wildlife with a camera instead of guns, It would attract many more tourists as well, especially these days in an environmentally conscious world. Malta may well be an Island in the Sun, but Malta is also an Island without any birds and such.
Hi Steve. We watched your Paola video at dinner last night. You are right when you say that the Maltese seem to build something and then leave it for ages before continuing. We will have to imagine what a beautiful garden this will be given time care and rain of course! Nothing you film is uninteresting..there’s beauty and interest in everything. Keep going.. for us it’s like waiting for the next instalment of a thriller! Thank you. Sue and Len x

Morning Steve...loved this video about Paola and gardens you make it so intetesting. I watch the skyline webcam looking into the town of Paola so to see it from street level was brilliant . About 3 years ago they did alot of underground pipework in the town over the road from the church, they dug up the area and it was so entertaining watching the diggers, traffic , people all trying to miss each other in a small space , it looks lovely now . Thanks again Steve...looking forward to your next video.

Nice one Steve, I enjoyed it, thank you. What a beautiful place that garden could be with good planting and care. There is certainly the space for it to be pretty spectacular and maybe change to a North African garden as summers are tending to be hotter. Then if they didn't want to water as much it wouldn't be a disaster with Mediterranean plants dying and water becoming a more and more valuable commodity. Lovely to see so many Maltese town houses restored and looking nice. Not everyone wants modern concrete and glass.

Englishman in Malta Unless we had to attend a Special Occassion everyone stayed in their own village. The only places we went, were to visit our family, Mellieha Bay to swim in Summer, nearly every Sunday to St. Anton Garden and Offcoarse Valletta. If you decided to go to another village and you don’t have a family to visit, in those days where do you go, there were no restaurants, nothing. Just to walk the street. Sadly you were at the worst hour, featuring Christ the King church's interior would have been the highlight of your video. Thanks for showing us around. My appreciations.
Oh...but as i said i will be going back . It was already a very long video, and i wanted to fit 8n the garden and the bridge, it was not possible to wait that day until after 5pm
Dom Mintoff has a plate on the wall of The Mellieha Park, as he was involved in getting Danish money and more work to Malta, and we Danes planned and had the Park built then. A new plate came when we expanded the Park with 35 new, fine maltese type houses few years ago. I remember having passed the prison at one time, on the way to something?
Next time you're in the south could you go past the Marnisi Marsovin Vinyard where I was born and lived till I came to England ,not far from Rahul Gdied .,it breaks my heart every time We go to Malta and see so many beautiful building going to ruins ,there s a big Palace we used to call it ta San Duminku with a small Chapel at the side, and also a famous hotel San Sussie .on Zejtun road..,there s a good book about the hotel called the White Lady of Marsaxlokk(the hotel still there but in ruins ) it was famous and I remember it when I was a child ,it use to be beautiful..
Shame i did not find it ?? Must be that thing i noticed blocked off ..They where are ..And yes i remembered later on in the video ..Any idea where the shelter is ??
St Ubaldesca Church was built by the grand master De Paule . It was the first church in Poala. It was dedicated to grandmasters mothers name. It's a historical church
How interesting! My grandmother married her English soldier husband during the Second World War in this tiny church. I wondered where the name came from. I actually managed to find it open the last time we visited. I could imagine my grandmother getting married in one of the side altars, she was not allowed to use the main altar as he was not Catholic.
This is awesome ... the place I was born in ... we used to live exactly over the Hypogeum ... a Pre-Historic UNESCO site ... the Only one of its sort in the World
Oh what a same been looking for someone to walk around with, This was not a full lost in it was so big, just was interested in the bridge and garden, take care my friend, keep in touch
Thank you Lawrence ...I did remember later on in the video ...They were good ...Everyone tell me October bet they were red and juicy ..and the ants hated me taking them aways from them ..lol 😁
They were very juicy, infact i pick some more and give them away, the skin was red on most of them ...i remembered the name later on in the video ....toilet is ok good to clean the system out once in a while ....🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Those are pomegranates, in Malta they are called 'Rummiena' (Rummien), yet those fruit are still very raw. Most Rummien ripen in October. I usually remember the Maltese name of them, I also usually forget how to spell and pronounce the Maltese name. When in Malta I carry one to two beverages with me (water, Gatorade, juice or fruit nectar and so on), one to two in a bag. Yet usually I just have one, and then go buy another during the day out. I find that it's very easy to forget things when I am out side a long time in hot and sunny Malta. Ants love Rummien fruit. I am guessing that the fruit was cracked open, or had a hole in it. Yes those ants in Malta can chew through plastic bags and get in to packaged baked goods. So they can certainly bite you. Some pomegranate fruit ripen prematurely, and when they do they are not as good as if they ripened at the proper time, and when they are early they usually crack open. Ants are often on the Rummien plants before the fruit even ripen. Many times when I take photos of my pomegranate plants an ant or two photo bombs my photos.
@@EnglishmaninMalta the thorns on pomegranates bushes are just hard branches with sharp ends, they don't come off easily, I have one variety of pomegranate that if I don't wear rose pruning gloves while pruning it looks like I was attacked by a cat's claws, on my hands and on my arms. A pomegranate bush with thorns that sharp can scratch you through a t-shirt without actually damaging the shirt. When pomegranate bushes are grown by seed they usually are very sharp, at least some of the pomegranate plants that you had seen on this video of yours must have been germinated by seeds. It makes sense they are germinating by seed all over Malta just like fig trees, so they are easy to find, and no person actually has to grow them by seeds, the birds do that, and people spitting the seeds out do that. All they had to do is find them growing, dig them up, and plant them in the garden. The pomegranate bushes grown from seed they have roots that grow very downward unlike cloned pomegranate bushes, that means they can collect water from underneath the ground way more easily than cloned pomegranates, eventually they would never need to be watered to stay nice and green. I may have eaten ants in figs before, yet I would never try to do that intentionally.
Hi Steve, I have a vacation to Malta and I have to board a flight tomorrow. Me and my husband are coming from UK so after returning we have to quarantine mandatory. I just wanted to ask are there tourist spots open and tourist coming? Bcuz it’s no point for us coming if everything is drop dead. Atleast we can save our hotel and food expenses if not flight. Please advice. I will be really grateful
Lots places open , Even bars , if bars serve food can open, many tourists places open, public transportation, ferry, and boat tours are all running, shop and indoor areas excluding restaurants are mandatory to wear masks, , just a few museum closed , but there so much to see
Englishman in Malta omg are you sure? Because we have been following you for a month now and even in your last few videos the streets look so empty so we thought it’s no point coming. Are the boat trips to blue grotto and st Juliens is all open? We would surely like to meet you up when we come there 😊
Of course its more quiet then usual, but think thats a plus, many museums are closed, or restrictions on how many people are allowed in ,and its a bit of a pain with the mask indoor areas, remember as i tell many people i film afternoons,so many places are quiet, just depends what you are looking for , could be there are bars ,hotel. resturants , lodos, tours closed but there are many open , all shops are open , ferry to gozo is running, but you must wear a mask, not sure about blue lagoon, but a friend of mine went over to comino to camping, but took the boat from Gozo ..
Englishman in Malta Thank you so so much Steve 😊 That will be really helpful in making the final move. Appreciate your reply. You are the best 😊😊 Thank you once again
Englishman in Malta no one paid the money due actually. The concession for anyone settling in the new village was that as long as they stayed there, they would be immune from prosecution to recover the debts. Also, Antoine de Paule was French not Italian.
It would be great if the whole world was planted with fruit trees that everyone could help themselves to. I would of been running around the pomegranate trees squealing flapping my hands 🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜. Also I'm amazed there's enough naughty people in Malta for a prison that size.
You never miss any part of video when add rolls it restarts same position,it means i cut at that place , sorry its impossible to show all , hope you enjoyed the video, i must return again one day ,
Englishman in Malta please do not think that I am knocking you because I really love your videos but I thought you were not saying Pawla but Paula. Rummien plural Rummiena singular for pomegranate. Baghajtar ta San Gwann or Farkizzan Is Figs they go in season on June24th and tend to be large. I am kind of disappointed. I was Baptised in Christ The King so it would have been nice if you would have video taped inside instead of harping on and on about the mosque. As Maltese ex pat and Catholic I have zilch interest to know or see the mosque. Their call for prayer was annoying and one day their audio just went bust. Good!
Disappointed !! This is laughable, Sorry but its a 45 min video in 40c temp of the town, Prison, Gardens , side streets and shops and shown three churches and maybe i mentioned the mosque a few times ..weather you like it or not it's part of paola, This was a walk around the town and i did say i would have to come back ,To do a full lost in .. ..There is always something somebody's not happy would you have like me to wait 2 hours for all three churches to Open ?? , Make it an hour video ..And then someone ...oh !! the video is to long ...Be reasonable my friend
lancer mitsubishi please have some respect and appreciate that Steve cannot do everything in one video. He does these videos in his spare time from work. I have no interest in religion whatsoever yet I find religious buildings fascinating and beautiful and the mosque was just that, from what we saw of it. If you find things offensive it's better to just move on to something you do like instead of being rude to someone who has gone out of his way to show people things they may not have otherwise seen. Have a nice day 😊

Englishman in Malta Up to this day. I have never been to so many places in Malta including Gozo. Disgusting! We left Malta when I was 14yrs. 🤷♀️
Oh wow ,how it all changed, the traffic didn't,but I use to go past that place every day on the bus on my way to work in Valletta..
Yes everything in Malta is changing
Thanks for this Steve. I really enjoyed it. I have stayed in Paola quite a few times when I have visited from Sydney Australia, and never ever heard of the Lost Gardens there. It looks so hot and dry there.
Glad you enjoyed it
I’m enjoying this I was born here ….it has changed I prefer how it was the piazza ….haven’t visited last time we where there had not much time as we where to take the cruise
Hi Censina, just found you on this video of Paola. Thought of you, and here you are! Isobel xxx
True nobody knows about it (that garden). You got that right Steve! Never been there myself. Go get hydrated mate! :D
Lol...I drink plenty mate do not worry about me ...Few can and could walk another few miles ..lol 😂

Nice trip my friend, cool
Thanks for visiting
Awesome footage!
Thank you very much!
Oh That's interesting never knew about that connection ..could have past going to the temples or so many sites over there
That pomegranate (Rummien) you plucked was still green . they crack when ripe in October
But its tasted ok ?
Wow I go to Paola for MCAST but never seen or noticed it
Soon can go lunch paola or walk though garden. When bridge ready
I will check it out, many are being refurbished now with new grants from the Government
Never knew about this church left Malta young
It's still early for Rummien (Pomegranate). Usually they are ripe and ready at the end of September beginning of October.
sorry I should have read the comments before i answered, you had already replied
hey ..this for me ??
I took about six home they are great ??
Those are rummin but it’s not done yet they go red when done also there is a shelter in that garden I grew up around there
Shame i did not find it ??
Not a single bird in sight Steve, where are they all, have they all been shot?
Hi my lovely friend
Thank you my friend
They could do with some water and rain from Lancashire Steve.,ha ha ..

Englishman in Malta we can do the walk together anytime buddy
Steve what you are eating is called rumin
Thank you Lawrence ...I did remember later on in the video ...They were good ...Everyone tell me October bet they were red and juicy ..and the ants hated me taking them aways from them ..lol 😁
Steve, after you finish eating that RUMIN that what it called, and by the way they are not ready yet you gonna run to the loo every
minute lol
I was filming and talking so did not notice ...had about ten on me ..wonder if i eaten any 😱😱 good fibre content

Hi Steve,
I have a vacation to Malta and I have to board a flight tomorrow.
1:31 in fact the Paolites are nicknamed 'Il-Midjunin' meaning 'the debtors'.
'Il-Midjunin' Thought i said that maybe not pronounced good ..But that was part of the story ?
@@EnglishmaninMalta Yes that is why they're called that because of the initial inhabitants of Paola
Englishman in Malta no one paid the money due actually. The concession for anyone settling in the new village was that as long as they stayed there, they would be immune from prosecution to recover the debts. Also, Antoine de Paule was French not Italian.

It's a myth that Malta is an ugly concrete jungle. There are many beautiful and interesting places in Malta
So tight my friend
Absolutely
Do a video about marsa thanks
Its difficult...lots are on guard not to be filmed there ...and the church is lovely
I not even realized that this bridge is here... Never noticed.
Think its going to be a busy bridge, and the garden needs improvement
That church is Saint ubaldesca
My Brother Lino was a Guard in that prison.

You so lucky beautiful!! Wheres the best place for street food ? The one near church?

It would be great if the whole world was planted with fruit trees that everyone could help themselves to. I would of been running around the pomegranate trees squealing flapping my hands 🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜.
Also I'm amazed there's enough naughty people in Malta for a prison that size.
Lovely comments ....But maybe that would happen ..if pigs could fly !! lol 😂
I don't think that prison is big enough; probably that explains why so many dodgy characters are running around free!

hello my friend
why dont you show us the only mosque in malta, its just around you at paola u guess, dont you see ;-)
Was thinking of walking near but theres no connection from the garden, plus same as churches its not the time to go in
I think the locals pronounce the town Pawla not Paula
thought i did ?
