- Floriana is located just outside the capital city of Malta, Valletta, and is over looked by many visitors. The origins of Floriana date back to 1634 when Grandmaster de Paule, sensing another attack by the Ottoman Turks, brought over an Italian engineer, Pietro Paolo Floriani, who built further fortifications in the town. And this is from where Floriana gets its name.
Floriana was meant to be a suburb of Valletta, but it developed to be a town on its own. It covers an area of 133 acres, The town offers a rich history with a number of historic buildings, churches, gardens and monuments that shed a light on the Maltese history.

‘What a grand harbour’ Steve 😂. I didn’t realise that Floriana had so much to it. We will make sure we make time to walk around it. Last year we just skirted past the Granaries when Lewis Capaldi was singing in the evening. It was nice hearing the musicians rehearsing as we passed by and all the young people coming into Valletta afterwards when it had finished. There was quite a fun atmosphere. It would be great if you could do the historical trail if you have the time Steve. We would appreciate any pointers. Thanks for the video. It’s a good one 💕

Nice video, great views, we have walked most of them gardens, certain times of the year when planted with flowers they are very picturesque, also a great place to be when a liner is in dock because you are very close to it. We are sure the heritage trail would be good, Floriana is a really nice place.

Hi Steve. Lovely walkaround Floriana. Brings me memories of my parents inlaw who used to live in Floriana. On your political point of view, I agree 100% with you. Especially coming from an outsider, i.e. not biased. Regards , there's a lot more to discover around Floriana.

So sorry to hear that you are lucky you did not lose your rye sight. In Misida they had a high slid and lots of kids fell from the top. On to the concrete I thorn my dress it got cough on the top going down the slide

Its a big trail
Very enjoyable video. Places away from tourist areas, I love to see these. My father was in the air force and we lived in Malta for 3 years I actually went to a convent school (Mt Carmel convent school) in Floriana when I was young. (1964-66) I returned in 1986 and the nuns let me look round. I beleive the convent is still there, but the school has moved. I would love the heritage video too. Thanks for your time doing these.
Many hidden secrets in that town and its so big, Thursday/Friday video is a beautiful cemetery/garden way down on the other side I did even know it was in Floriana!

What a beautiful grand harbour loved it Steve get away from the busy main roads and lose yourself in the back streets.Thats me love to stroll through the Bach streets and who cares if you get lost it doesn't last very long.The heritage trail sounds fascinating can't wait to been in Malta next month.👍😀

fab video was there for the first time ever last april .loved the place ,1 week not long enough to see a lot ,stayed in santana hotel in qawra ,wood hut ,red loin amongst others visited .be back again this year as i want to see more of this lovely island

Here in the states we eat Artichokes leave by leave. We dip them in garlic butter until we get to the heart. I love them. It's like opening a present, unwrapping it til you get the the present the heart. Yummy.
Sounds great! Its not my thing I think Maltese cook them in a pot with garlic and parsley

Grand Harbour Hotel in Valletta is a must and could be part of the Heritage trail too.

The artichokes you stuff them before with tuna, garlic, parsley, olives, bread crumbs, anchovies and mix everything together then you boil them with a potato on top of each of them and Biggila on the side yummy 😋 you call them qaqoch

FLORIANA is named after the 17th century military engineer PIETRO FLORIANI. He was commissioned by the Knights in 1636 to extend Valletta's fortifications.
