I think in this case it was an event where he was supposed to be at and he did this as a quick favor to the group in the lobby. You can hear in the end he's like, "Ok I have to go get ready for X now". But the walking up to random people is something he does in other occasions and how he started out in Brooklyn and stuff, and it's def awesome because not many people have the courage to do that kind of thing
See 0.46 to 0.49 .that's where he hid the rest of the cards in his pocket and after that you can observe he has kept the spades only and kept it slightly bloated. You can very well observe the gaps in the deck..

And, I saw in another video of DB with this trick where the person accidentally picked the suit he already prepared (for example, spades in this specific video) on the first choice, he just went ahead and "vanish" all the other suits and have the one chosen as the remaining suit (with some very clever word play). What is impressive is his charisma and presence to be able to pull this off. We can replay videos to catch him in the act, but those people are witnessing magic live, and were just captivated by being in Blaine's vicinity. Simply amazing.

easy! look at the thickness of the stack at 0:41. then, the switch happens at 0:45. and then, look at the thickness of the stack again at 0:59. he is actually holding the stack with cards slightly separated to make it look thicker. and from that point, it's just a matter of pressing the deck down. he had 4 separate 13-card decks for each suit in his pocket. he had someone signal to him the suit when she showed it to them. so, knowing what she showed, he went for a stack that was other than what she picked.
David has described this before, part of a normal trick is get someone to look at the sky, then change the card when they’re looking up. He had no need for a second signal, he definitely just looked at the card while it’s being signed.
