And maybe some of the voice and personality, but I can't be too picky with that considering most actors were different after such a long time. I love every other aspect though. The ge plays so much better its almost too easy. I wish the AI was made harder just because of how signifantly better and comfortable and forgiving the controles are. But as a whole the game is very good. If I could wish for one thing to be changed about the remasters, it would be the distant off map views to be a modern version of a dreamy state view.
I think part of that is that you played the original games as a child, so that dreamy feel you speak about could be your childhood wonder at playing as a dragon in a magical exiting world. And now as an adult you feel the remastered game feels too real and modern because well, you have lost the magic that comes from seeing a game (and life) through the eyes of a child...
@xXxZugoldragonxXx I recently bought a ps1 and the first Spyro and that dreamy feel he's talking about is still there. I recommend trying out the original on Playstation again and see what he means. On the other hand, remastered game play footage looks amazing from this video so I'll definitely be checking it out soon.
@@Venomonomonom you can play as sheilah the kangaroo, Sgt Byrd(a flying bird bomber), Bentley the yeti, and agent 9, a chimp with a laser gun. They all play great and are very fun.

I'm so fricking excited for this trilogy. IT has been a big part of my childhood especially since I played the original three together with my Grandfather. So I can't wait to play it all :)
Think you hit the nail on the head with the fact that this remake is how we remember the originals. That's how I explained it to a friend, who was a massive fan of the originals, when she asked why she should consider getting the remake.
This game was awesome back then along with Crash those were the days. I was lucky enough to have N64 and PS1 and wish i could go back to those days. Now I share it with my kids
I do not understand why people are so hung up on this. Many people like having cases to put on a shelf. It's a great game. Buy the cartridge and complete the download or just buy it in the eshop. Who cares.
For some it's about preservation. Wii servers are down and eventually Switch servers will go down too and then the downloaded portions will be inaccessible. For people who still play their twenty year old games and plan to do the same with this, that's a legitimate concern that physical media is supposed to alleviate. And of course one might say that MOST games have patches to download now, but little quality-of-life bug fixes are different than two-thirds of a game being unplayable without a download.
@@PEHfinale You know, the preservation aspect makes a lot of sense, and I didn't think about that. It is nice to have super old games to just pull out and play. But people will definitely have access to the download for the foreseeable future, and to avoid enjoying the game now altogether out of stubborn principle seems silly. Just my thought.
I feel like if it wanted to be the perfect remake they would have to have added the Crash Bash demo when you press the switch equivalent of L1+L2+R1+R2+Square+Triangle+Circle+Cross in the intro screen. I was so amazed when I discovered this when I played spyro 3 as a kid and I played the demo to death...
I’ve been playing this on Xbox and I completed the first one 120% and it was so enjoyable the whole way through. Collectathons balance in between interestingand monotonous but this is definitely a good balance
I downloaded my Trilogy on the eShop, is anyone else experiencing severe lag and stupid long load times? I am currently playing part 1, and as i navigate, the camera movement and animation lags and stutters a lot. WTF
The whole download thing makes me wonder if they're doing it on purpose so decrease number of physical copies purchased, making them "less profitable" so they can stop selling physical copies altogether. Just trying to usher in the digital only age perhaps?
Isaac Holzwarth I doubt it. Cartridges with less space will be cheaper so they’re just doing it so they won’t have to put more money into better cartridges.
I've played the original Spyro trilogy on PS1 so I'm wondering to those who played the original, is this game really a good buy? I don't care about graphics quality and frame rate btw. Thanks Spyronatics!
Just throwing this out there - I knew it was coming to switch. Before it came out. I was originally waiting for the switch version, knowing it was coming. The game came out on PS4 Xbox One, still waiting for switch version. My switch was stolen, so I bought a PS4 with my Christmas bonus from work, Got Spyro reignited then. - THEN they announced it for switch, thanks lads, also I did get my switch back. I think the second reason why there wasn’t much fan fare, is we already played it tbh. It’s lower frame rate, but is still very playable. People were hoping it would finally be a physical solid cart to preserve the collection for years. And it’s not. (From what I heard)
The load times between worlds are atrocious. Also only the first game is actually on the cartridge. Not mentioning that stuff in a review is a pretty big omission.
Derek J to me thats a lot, especially when you accidentally enter an area and immediately want to go back. The load times were so bad for me I sold my copy on eBay after 24 hours
My only complaint with this game is that I had to download 8.7 GB of data even tho I had a cart. If they could put Crash and Skyrim on a cart without having any download other than updates and saves they could have done it with Spyro.
I'm so glad I can finally play the whole trilogy! Don't have much memories of the first.. I GOT STUCK IN THE LABYRINTH IN THE FIRST WORLD! .. I was 6 lol.. Never finished Ripto's Rage.. Was too scared for the final boss. And I never touched the 3rd game tho..
The only thing I wish they would have done which is super nit picky and my own preference for sure is like a halo ce type of remaster where you can seamlessly flip back and forth between old and new graphics.
I was kinda excited for this after getting into Crash and i wanted to see more of the classic PS1 era-games i missed out. But then I read about the huge mandatory download and lost any interest in playing it, but more importantly supporting Activision. If BotW with its 13GB can fit on one cartridge, so can Spyro.
It’s the same on every platform. Plus, Breath of the Wild was made by Nintendo, who know the limitations and how far to an extent they can put on to their own cartridges. Who cares anyway? It’s not as if the games appear separately on the home menu...I have the PS4 version, and it made no difference whatsoever. People need to stop being so petty over a one time download, and just enjoy it for what it is
@@the_sonic_unity4451 people buy physical games to actually wanting to own the game and having history in that game card or CD to preserve because once the servers go down you will never be able to buy or play this game in it's full because it was never released in full format physically. Buying digital is essentially just renting, you're just buying the key to play the game you want.
I can't disagree more with your comments on the extra characters in Spyro 3; As a child, this was 1 of my only games to play, and as such, having multiple gameplay styles felt like I had more content than there actually is. Heck, I played the skateboarding segments more than i would ever want to admit. If your sole purpose is to beat the game, the gameplay styles are obstacles in your way, but otherwise, if you want a game to Pfaff in, Spyro 3 is the best option of the trilogy.
I don't mind multiple style gameplay for either new characters or any vehicle segments. Just as long as the name of the game is what the genre represents and most importantly, are well crafted and fun. And they did it well. Besides, you'll still be playing Spyro in his platforming style more times than any style it throws at. So it's fair.
Just got it the other day and I'm loving it so far. Mainly focusing on beating the first game before I move onto Ripto's Rage. Only thing I noticed with the Switch port is that, on handheld, there's a really weird dithering effect most noticeable in cutscenes, almost like the fade-in effect from Mario Odyssey or A Hat in Time, but without the actual fading. It's nothing gamebreaking, but once I noticed it I couldn't unsee it. Still, an excellent game so far.
I don't understand all the fuss about downloading half of the game? Nearly every game that comes out now needs a day one patch to even play. I don't like it but it's been that way for a while now. Why is it such a big deal with people with this game in particular? Hell you can't even access most of the content in Mortal Kombat 11 on Switch without a constant server connection and I never heard people complain.
Kevin Simmerman because it is a huge download for a small system, much more than any patch or update, and just shows they are being cheap by buying the cheapest cartridge to put it on
I really don’t agree that it’s ‘smooth and beautiful’, I really notice bad frame rate and loading times. Kameo on the Xbox 360 looked much better and more polished than this!
Im burned by activation already for their hand in CTR:NF but this is making me salivate. At least theres no online modes to lag and get disconnected from
A lot of ignorance in these comments. Of course the graphical fidelity is going to be downgraded. Yes, there are some frame rate issues here and there, but they are pretty minor from what I've experienced so far. Having a physical + download is BS, but that's probably the worst thing about this port overall. I played the game for a couple hours last night and had a great time with it. It looks and plays really nice. What more do you people want? It's not a portable NVIDIA 1660 ti.
Stability should always come before making things look pretty though, of course I like to see things look as good as possibly but honestly fps is way more important. There's no reason this couldn't be played at 60fps on the PS4/Xbox as they have the power (switch perhaps not). It's honestly just lazy and a money grab I feel compared to crash which was remade a whole lot better
@@David-bj8ri I don't disagree necessarily, but unfortunately the devs will get shit either way they go about it. An in between of graphics/stability is the best option to please people on either side of the board. There will always be those people that say that graphics aren't good enough and those people that say frame rate etc. Isn't good enough. At least in the case of the switch.
@@cheesewheel Yep I agree that people look for different things in games, I personally believe stability is most important. But then I have a keen eye for detail and notice even slightly fps dips, for this reason it drives me mad seeing it lol
@@David-bj8ri yeah I get that. I'm much the same way, but I just chalk it up to accepting that the switch just isn't that powerful so it just requires more adjusting to certain drawbacks in some games. But it's usually pretty minor.
If I have the game on my base 500gb PS4 that I share with my sister and I’m only probably just under halfway through the first game with the rest of it and the other two left, is it worth getting again on my WAY more powerful, personal gaming computer? Opinions? I’d love to play in 60 FPS.
I refused to buy this on PS4 because of the idiotic decision to only put one game on the actual disc. Sounds like they’ve done the same with Switch, so still no sale for me.
Am I the only one that got a massive headache from the framerate? It is so badly laggy it gave me such a massive headache when playing that I had to set it down after 10 minutes.

I grew up with N64, so it was my friends who played Crash, Spyro, all those PS1 adventure classics, while I never had the chance. Now my daughter loves our Switch and enjoys Mario Odyssey and BotW and games like that. Oh, and she's also played through the Daemon X Machina demo like 10 times. XD Would the Spyro games be worth checking out together? Thanks!
I would say so. the games themselves are fantastic, have a great replay value. They aren't as open as Odyssey per se, but you're getting 3 gems of the playstation era for a solid price. They are certainly games you can sit on the couch and enjoy for hours on end
also, as for the age demographic, the game is essentially eternal. I've played spyro games since I was 7, and I'm now 21 years old and still playing them
I guess one thing Spyro does that is better than Odyssey is that the Eggs or collectlibles feel more meaningfull than what people say the moons in Odyssey feel like.
You could honestly drop half of the moons and lose zero content Honestly even the eggs in Spyro 3 start to push it You need to feel like you have to work for it
I agree. It's also has better levels and challenging platforming & such that Odyssey fails to do. Yeah. There are some missions like the Alchemy one and others that sucks and could've been alot better. But at least it was challenging.

By providing a retail copy with a download code you're giving reseller's an opportunity to provide you the game at a discount. If it was digital only, you'd be solely at the mercy of the eShop. I can only assume you want all Switch games to be 100% contained on cartridges however this would lead to 1. Longer loading times as more aggressive compression techniques would need to be implemented. 2. Cut content, particular when it comes to audio and cutscenes. 3. Increased retail price where the publisher had to stock a higher capacity card. Ultimately its a shame that you're hard passing on something that benefits you, but I appreciate you're on a bandwagon right now that's moving too fast for you to get off.

Great take on the second paragraph.
At 7:40 when he yelled “OH NO SIR” I thought he was taking about Spyro almost falling into the lava
Now that Spyro is here,
GIVE US SLY COOPER FOR SWITCH !!
Alaa Shaban definitely not happening
Uh, no.
Play as the other characters was one of the best parts of the third game. Hard disagree with your take on that.
I haven't even played Spyro but I want it bc I love playing as different characters. Especially if they're evil hehe
I CAN'T FIND OUT WHO YOU CAN PLAY AS!! WHY DOESN'T ANYONE SHARE THE INFO LOL
@@Venomonomonom you can play as sheilah the kangaroo, Sgt Byrd(a flying bird bomber), Bentley the yeti, and agent 9, a chimp with a laser gun. They all play great and are very fun.
agreed they even added little bit more variety to the gamplay as well 😀
It plays exactly as the original which is great. I just have some difficulties with the camera, but focussing the camera behind you with one button press is really helpful.
I love this game. This game feels like playing Tonic Trouble for some reason. Even the music feels like that.
I'm so fricking excited for this trilogy. IT has been a big part of my childhood especially since I played the original three together with my Grandfather. So I can't wait to play it all :)
Is he still alive
Did you like it
Think you hit the nail on the head with the fact that this remake is how we remember the originals. That's how I explained it to a friend, who was a massive fan of the originals, when she asked why she should consider getting the remake.
This game was awesome back then along with Crash those were the days. I was lucky enough to have N64 and PS1 and wish i could go back to those days. Now I share it with my kids
Same here. I taught my girl how to play video games running around in Ocarina of Time, and now we trade off the Switch and it's a lot of fun.
Thats not in there but some of the original cheat codes that make spyro look different were brought into the remaster!
I’ve been playing this on Xbox and I completed the first one 120% and it was so enjoyable the whole way through. Collectathons balance in between interestingand monotonous but this is definitely a good balance
I remember playing this game on my parent’s ps2, definitely one of my favorites. Brings back such nostalgia :,)
@Marco Kitty well PS2 can read PS1 games
I downloaded my Trilogy on the eShop, is anyone else experiencing severe lag and stupid long load times? I am currently playing part 1, and as i navigate, the camera movement and animation lags and stutters a lot. WTF
It might be your micro sd? Do you still have these issues
@@pastqr yes same here
The whole download thing makes me wonder if they're doing it on purpose so decrease number of physical copies purchased, making them "less profitable" so they can stop selling physical copies altogether.
Wondering the same I had it on ps2 I just got it on ps4. Gonna give it a try. If it's good still I'll grab it on switch
Just throwing this out there - I knew it was coming to switch. Before it came out. I was originally waiting for the switch version, knowing it was coming. The game came out on PS4 Xbox One, still waiting for switch version. My switch was stolen, so I bought a PS4 with my Christmas bonus from work,
Got Spyro reignited then.
It runs at the same frame rate
Still at 30fps
The graphics were downgraded but not the frame rate
Alright so when controlls are updated (Majora's mask) y'all complain but when it isn't yall complain?
CecilDaBomb1117 that’s because people thought majora’s mask’s controls were updated poorly
I never played this series , but it looks cute to have on the go .Thanks for the honest review !
I really appreciate breaking down each game individually
I mean we already know about the game but how does it function on switch and what differences are there between versions?
Could you at least watch the video before commenting, just to make sure he didn't cover that at the end?
The load times between worlds are atrocious. Also only the first game is actually on the cartridge. Not mentioning that stuff in a review is a pretty big omission.
thedreadedzero it’s like 20 seconds it’s not bad at all
Derek J to me thats a lot, especially when you accidentally enter an area and immediately want to go back. The load times were so bad for me I sold my copy on eBay after 24 hours
Mike UK 1970 it’s still something that should be mentioned in a review
Devin Isaacson I work a lot. In my spare time I play games. I don’t have patience for things like sitting and waiting for long load times. 🤷♀️
Mike UK 1970 the one I had was the PS4 version, but from watching gameplay videos of the Switch version the load times are identical
My only complaint with this game is that I had to download 8.7 GB of data even tho I had a cart. If they could put Crash and Skyrim on a cart without having any download other than updates and saves they could have done it with Spyro.
I still own all the Spyro games from Sony to this day. So I think it would be interesting for this game come to switch
The game is already on switch
Should I get a switch v1 or a switch lite with a game
I'm so glad I can finally play the whole trilogy! Don't have much memories of the first.. I GOT STUCK IN THE LABYRINTH IN THE FIRST WORLD! .. I was 6 lol..
Never finished Ripto's Rage.. Was too scared for the final boss. And I never touched the 3rd game tho..
If From Software wants to milk my nostalgia they can release a King’s Field anthology and an Armored Core anthology.
The only thing I wish they would have done which is super nit picky and my own preference for sure is like a halo ce type of remaster where you can seamlessly flip back and forth between old and new graphics.
I feel like this is a great game but I don’t know if I show buy. I haven’t played the original three games of Spyro so I don’t know much of it.
I recommend you play spyro if you're a fan of crash bandicoot or just a fan of 3d platforming in general 🤔 😉
@@pulseofme4949 this guy gets it.
the game is so fun

Bet he said "Review copy provided by ACTIVISION" with gun pointed at his balls.
I never played any of the Spyro games but this looks so colorful and beautiful, I had to pick it up for the steam deck for only $10
I can't disagree more with your comments on the extra characters in Spyro 3; As a child, this was 1 of my only games to play, and as such, having multiple gameplay styles felt like I had more content than there actually is.
Thanks Alex. I was on the fence about this one. I never played them back in the day but it sounds like a solid 3D platformer to pick up.
Did you like it?
@@RayTubedusRT - Still haven't got around to buying it yet lol
@@AndrewO83 😂
@@AndrewO83 I felt this
I only played the Gba Spyro games and I feel right at home with the trilogy:)
Spyro 1: Simplest and most nostalgic
Spyro 2: Best and enhanced
Spyro 3: Skateboarding
😂
I don't understand all the fuss about downloading half of the game? Nearly every game that comes out now needs a day one patch to even play. I don't like it but it's been that way for a while now. Why is it such a big deal with people with this game in particular? Hell you can't even access most of the content in Mortal Kombat 11 on Switch without a constant server connection and I never heard people complain.
Kevin Simmerman because it is a huge download for a small system, much more than any patch or update, and just shows they are being cheap by buying the cheapest cartridge to put it on
@@charliefen7056 Get a job so you can afford a sd card, dumbass. 8.7 GB download is nothing in 2020

I love these kinds of games!
It gives me nostalgia of the games I played when I was little(well I'm still a kid): Crash bandicoot, Spyros.
I only remember playing the first spyro and maybe second spyro. i mostly remember playing a snow stage
I really don’t agree that it’s ‘smooth and beautiful’, I really notice bad frame rate and loading times. Kameo on the Xbox 360 looked much better and more polished than this!
Samuel Coe duuuh
BigWiteOne BigWite What do you mean ‘duuuuuh’ ? Do you understand that Kameo came out 15 years ago on a system two generations old!
I've had no issues so far game looks great and plays fine overall
I loved the PS1 trilogy. These remasters are better than the original. I remember many of these levels. I always hated those taunting egg thieves!
If I have the game on my base 500gb PS4 that I share with my sister and I’m only probably just under halfway through the first game with the rest of it and the other two left, is it worth getting again on my WAY more powerful, personal gaming computer? Opinions? I’d love to play in 60 FPS.
This game works (smoothly) on the Switch Lite, right?
How are the graphics compared to playing it on a PS4?
I refused to buy this on PS4 because of the idiotic decision to only put one game on the actual disc. Sounds like they’ve done the same with Switch, so still no sale for me.
BUY EXTRA STORAGE IF YOU WANT THIS GAME ON SWITCH!!!! 13/10 GB!! THAT'S WAY TO MUCH!!!!
How do people not have at least a 250gb micro sd
Do you recommend this or mincraft (for swich)
I looove this game. Played it when it came out years ago for PS
How can Sparx show you hidden gems on the switch version? Which button?
Am I the only one that got a massive headache from the framerate? It is so badly laggy it gave me such a massive headache when playing that I had to set it down after 10 minutes.
Could you play it with the GameCube controller?
Hey, can anyone vouch for this game being fun for a 4th-grader to play?
You could honestly drop half of the moons and lose zero content
Honestly even the eggs in Spyro 3 start to push it
You need to feel like you have to work for it
I agree. It's also has better levels and challenging platforming & such that Odyssey fails to do. Yeah. There are some missions like the Alchemy one and others that sucks and could've been alot better. But at least it was challenging.
I passed on buying it. If it is not Physical Full-Cart release, it is not worth the money! Just 'pirate that old rom and enjoy' is how this marketing format makes me feel!
I got this because I love Spyro and he fits on the switch . Plus I want future crash and Spyro titles on the switch
I'm having trouble getting the camera to behave. Any tips?
In the first world of spyro 3 you can change camera settings between manually and automatically

I agree there is no reason at all this couldn't fit on a cart, anyone saying otherwise is just dumb. Witcher 3 being on 1 cart is all I need to say
@@David-bj8ri No need to call people dumb, but I do agree there is no justification for not having it on the cartridge. IF the memory is too big, that implies to me the code is hugely bloated and not at all optimized for the Switch, a red flag.
Activision just being dirt cheap and not wanting to spend a little extra money for (which they have like a lot...billions) for a larger cartridge. On top of all that a friend bought me Okami HD for switch and I really want to play. I had to skip Fire Emblem for all this. Lol

I have downloaded this game on the PC and it’s a wowed feeling I must say! Cuz I don’t wanna to have the game on the switch just to have to download the game anyways!
It probably runs better on a decent PC anyway, enjoy!!
I had been looking forward to playing this but refuse to support physical games with download codes. Hard pass
Then get it didgital and quit crying
Jamie Prescott thank you!! People are such cry babies now a days. Everyone feels so entitled.
By providing a retail copy with a download code you're giving reseller's an opportunity to provide you the game at a discount. If it was digital only, you'd be solely at the mercy of the eShop. I can only assume you want all Switch games to be 100% contained on cartridges however this would lead to
Shoot3347 I agree, fuck all those shills that gave stupid responses.
