  • Short field approach and landing during pattern work at St. Louis Downtown (KCPS) on a local training flight for my Commercial Airplane multi-engine certificate. Intended touchdown point was the 1000-foot markers.

Good job. Just learning how to fly the seminole with 4 hours and I have a check ride in 4 hours of flight time.

Nice job man. When do you smoothly pull power to idle? I have my comm multi add on on Friday and am landing a tad long. Appreciate it

Thanks. This was a really long time ago, but I think I remember bringing the engines to idle just as I began the flare/roundout. You may want to try a bit earlier if you are having trouble, or adjusting your aiming point to a bit sooner on the runway. You can see here that I was intending to touch down at the 1000-foot markers, but I instead aimed at the 500-foot stripes just after the numbers, to account for the flare. Best of luck!

True - I felt that our school taught short-field landings a strange way, by aiming for a specific touchdown point and not much else. More realistic practice is crossing the threshold at about 50 ft and getting stopped as quickly as possible. Do you fly the Seminole as well? I noticed Arlington on your videos - ATP?
