@@scottsmith4315 I remember getting calls from fake debt collectors and they'd leave voicemails saying that I would be arrested. It was honestly terrifying and I could see me falling for it if my way to deal with anxiety wasn't to google extensively, so I can see a lot of ways how someone could get scammed. It really gets to me that people just say people who get scammed are just stupid, when there's a lot of angles that a scammer can leverage against someone.
@@lrose5522 I was actually in the middle of getting scammed in the loan scam when I got the one about my car being found in Texas with cocaine and money etc. I told my scammer (who I trusted at that time) and he told me not to worry it’s just a scam. I got so many calls during that period. Like they see a sucker and then attack like piranhas.

Most scammer employees earn their money via commission i.e. ripping off old ladies. The average Indian scam call centre pays their employees about $200 per month base salary. The rest is through commission. The scam centres tend to pay 1/50th commission to their employees for every successful scam. Thus, if you worked in one of those call centres and scammed someone out of $5,000 dollars, you'd take home $100 in commission.
Commission means an individual scammer can quadruple their base pay or earn more than $1,500 per month. Might not sound a lot in the west but this is an extremely good wage in India and that's why scam centres are so prevalent.

Because of the wealth difference for working class Americans and working class Indians, they think that everyone in America is filthy rich. They don't realize that everything costs more in America, so it almost evens out, and they don't realize that many people in America are also poor, especially elderly people.
Like many of my countrymen in Sweden thinks that American salaries are much higher than Swedish salaries. They don't think about that Americans have to buy health insurance, tuition fees and many more things we don't have to because it's already payed with our taxes. It will all even out in the end.

@@doreen6659 I saw another scambaiter's video that said they get something like a couple of dollars for scamming $250. Maybe that's why they're so desperate, if they don't scam you, they don't get any bonus money. The problem is, these guys are not really trained to do anything but stick to the script. They get tunnel vision going after the prize.
UA-camrs do more towards these scammers and finding them, than the government. How sad is that? I'm glad we got kit and the other scambaiters.

@@papayer In their defense, it's quite common that in those Call centers, even in real ones, people with not-that-great English (or any other language except if the call center is for the domestic market) are taken. I myself was working in one in my third language, sometimes it was truly horrible. No empathy for these idiots, tho.

I always like to compare how apathetic the scammer sounds when they accidentally send too much money vs the absolute frantic desperation they have when you redeem the cards. If they sounded more like that when they transfer the money, they would be much more convincing.

He fucks with their computers, but he's less entertaining (imo).

There's a scam going about where people use a fake banking app and they've been buying jewelry by showing the store workers the transaction is complete when in reality it's a fake account. He doesn't even like people to call out the fact that 97% of these scam calls he takes part in come from India. He doesn't want that fact to be singled out. I think Kit was discussing excuses with a scammer that he would tell the bank people about why he was pulling out so much money. The scammer wanted him to say that he would be opening a restaurant in Thailand and Kit just kept wasting his time with what names he should give this fake restaurant. One of them of course being just "Thai Restaurant"
I'm explaining this because I feel that joke is too obscure for people to understand.

What I thought was brilliant about your suggestion, was the idea that a team could be created and trained and assisted to do the kind of work that Kit (and others; Kit is the funniest and most entertaining) does. E.g., I could improvise like Kit, but I have limited computer skills. Perhaps others might have technical skills, but not know how to interact with scammers in a humorous and extended way. I'm quite new on this channel and OMG those redeem moments are awesome. But if the scammers can see the computer screen, why don't they copy the gift card codes quickly from the notepad and try to redeem them on their Google account, instead of just shouting?
@@SylD0611 they don’t want to redeem them, they sell them for cash. They don’t want the money in their google accounts, they want the cash.. they sell them for probably $350-$400 for a $500 gift card

We need to never buy discounted gift cards ourselves, or we're supporting an industry that helps these thieves launder money.

Thank you for educating people, I actually helped someone at my work today with this. I work at kroger and I saw somebody buying a ton of cards I asked him about it we ended up talking and it was this exact scam, I ended up telling him it was a scam and saved him from the entire thing. Never change man!
