A rolling pin for rolling dough will just kill nerves with thick heavy whaps but a dog beating stick martial art , a hit from a staff def hurts.
Also the hand is pretty hurtful too.
The death rate by personal belongings/objects, defined by hands/fist/feet/knee/etc, is 3-5 times higher than death number and death rate by guns. And that's including the suicide numbers that really shouldn't be counted as far as counting crimes go.

Fun fact: The actor who play Ip Man, Donnie Yen is once get into a street fight with some gangster in real life and really fought 10 guys at one times which inspired the scriptwriter to write this into the movie. That's how they get to do that "I want fight 10 person" scene. But of course back then Donnie Yen ain't using the Wing Chun style because he learn Wing Chun just before they plan to shoot this movie, but Donnie Yen did learn traditional martial arts since he was 8, then got himself black and purple belt from Judo and Brazillian Jiu-jitsu, he also explore MMA when he is in USA from 2000 to 2003, so you can kind of imagine how's that fight go. So he was mostly taught by one of Ip Man's top students, Wong Sheung Leung. Yet, never completed his training above most of basics. Though his system of Jeet Kun Do would implement Boxing, Western Fencing and basic Wing Chun.

My dad was a student at Ip Man's school in Kowloon at the same time as Bruce Lee, back when they were both teenagers.
So yes, Ip Man was a real person, and all the techniques Donnie Yen uses are real wing chun - I learned wing chun for 4 years, things like tan sao blocks, kicks and chain punches like the ones Yen uses are the exact same things that I learned :) Pretty much every modern wing chun school can trace its lineage back to Ip Man, his students and their students, so effectively all wing chun today was created by Ip Man's teachings.

If you are Asian, the duster is the ultimate insult, because that is what asian parents beat their kids with. So for Ip Man to beat him with a duster, it is like Ip man kung fu is so far above him, like an adult to a child. Also, for those who laugh at the duster vs sword, you do not know how powerful that thing is until you get beaten with one. Lol.

It a traditional duster made from cane and feathers. Dual purpose. 1. Dusting the ornaments at home. 2. Punishing kids by caning them. 100% common in Asian homes until maybe the late 90s. Yes, we ( chinese / asians) were once all caned by our parents as kids. Ensures our schoolwork are constantly A graded 🤣😄😅

While the movies are based on the character of the real Ip Man, a lot of the stories don't reflect real events. Ip Man is a folk hero, the movies are based on his legend, not his life.

as a suggestion for movies that just feel like an art piece, I'd suggest The Fall starring Lee Pace. it has some of the best transitions I've ever seen and it was filmed in like 20 plus countries. as an allegory for depression due to an injury it really hits home.

If you look at the later photos of Ip Man, he might look like a frail, skinny and weak person, and you may wonder how could this frail person be Bruce Lee's kungfu teacher? That's because in his later years, Ip Man suffered from throat cancer which weakened him considerably and caused him to lose weight and muscles. Bruce Lee always respects Ip Man greatly as his teacher. This can be proven by looking at the photos, there are photos of Ip Man with baby Brandon Lee (he's a few months old) and also photos of Ip Man with young Brandon (around 3 years old), these photos show that Bruce kept visiting Ip Man when he's coming to Hong Kong eventhough he had become a famous international movie star.

One noticeable difference of karate and kung fu (in this case, wing-chun) is that karate you’re facing your opponent, direct forward and back movements. Kung fu is circular, the stances are different, as of course, the methodology of the fighting. Ip Man (aka Yip Man) created wing Chun.

This is where bruce lee was the like the father of mma. He learned whin chung from ip man but he notice there was some offensive flaws so he only took in the principle of defensive from ip man and bruce lee created grappling and some hand bar take down used in today mma. A lot of mma fighters said bruce lee if he was alive today would do really well in mma cause he made some mma moves well known back in his time.

    • @seraphinaaizen6278
      @seraphinaaizen6278 9 місяців тому

Bruce Lee did notcreate ANY of the techniques he used. His contribution was making the concept of cross-training in multiple styles mainstream (although other people were already in the process of doing so).
"A lot of mma fighters said bruce lee if he was alive today would do really well in mma cause he made some mma moves well known back in his time."
Bruce Lee wouldn't have a prayer against the pro fighters of his own era, let alone a modern pro. He wasn't a fighter, he was an actor with a bad back. The only way he could have done well in MMA is if he had quit acting and trained to actually be a fighter full time.
There's a lot of hero worship around Bruce Lee which enormously distorts and exaggerates people's impression of him.

8:30 the tiger like style of gong fu he uses and his aggression, is to portray him as a northerner. There are also northern and southern stereotypes chinese people have about each other. Northerners are like the huns or barbarians. Southerners are civilized/cultured in comparison by stereotype. The south also has more wet climate and best for farming.
Southern people talk with their poisonous viper tongues
Northern people talk with their fists
    Or so the stereotype goes
