Ip Man knows English, when he was younger and still a student in his Master's school, he took a break after achieving a certain level of Mastery and went to study academics in Hong Kong. That's also when he met his Master's younger brother Leong Bik and learnt an innovated version of Wing Chun. Check out "Ip Man: A Legend is Born". The younger Ip Man is starred by Dennis To, a real Wushu practitioner who's won several martial arts championships and also known to be a champion of Wing Chun.
When filming the fight, Mike Tyson actually broke his fingers when hitting Donnie Yen’s elbows. Also, Donnie said that the part where he dodges Tyson’s fists while he punches the bag was actually dangerous because Yen had to dodge at the very last possible moment of
The first time that Max Zhang switched side, because they took his son along with Ip Man's. the 2nd time was after he did help fighting off the bad guys twice but no one noticed and he was even put to jail because he was there fighting.
There's a few things referenced in this movie, during dialogue and in the final fight, which are call backs to The Legend is Born: Ip Man. I definitely recommend giving it a watch!
"helicopter arms" is an actual useful move. You can, though rare, occasionally see its application in MMA fights. Having said that, a lot of "martial artists" that do not engage in actual combats may do so as in the movie -- just swinging for the sake of swinging. I had a friend thinking the same as you guys when I practised. He rushed into me trying to prove a point -- he got a swollen elbow for 2 weeks. I don't do MMA but points sparring. Most people that has not encountered this style would be surprised that they can't block the "swing" with just one hand against someone as skinny / whimpy as me.....and the combo of the seemingly stupid "helicopter arms" is hard to block unless they know what's coming next. I have scored many points against unprepared opponents with this move. The "bamboo sticks" were commonly used in construction. Back then when the city started booming, they were everywhere.
For the white or black foreigner appears in the IP man2&3, you can see them because Hongkong was colonized by UK at that period. At that time, not only Hongkong is govern by British officers, but some high-level hotels or clubs are not allowed for Chinese to enter. Most of the Chinese there can only have the inferior jobs under the governance of Britain. That's why the movie describe many foreigner there as "evil". Mike Tyson is just a gangster at that time. For this movie, it 's topic returns to the family, kids, and love, and also the fight for the honor of Wing Chun Orthodox between Ip man and zhang. so the plot might not be so exciting as the previous ones.
I agree, this is the weakest part of the saga, and the worst part is that we believed it to be the end for four whole years T.T thankfully we got Ip Man 4 which I preffer over this one.
If it doesnt make sense, then thats just you not having a good taste at all. Not all movies are supposed to be "Boom explosions, gun fights and American flags at the end". Sometimes its a different way to tell a tale. Also i dont see the reason to be laughing at IP man's wife getting cancer, seemed like a cheap way to degrade a good movie.
Mike Tyson is not Mike Tyson in this movie, he's just a gang boss who practices boxing. The movie takes place in 1960s, 6 years before Mike was born.
what a badass combo
The weapons at the end the staff and the dual butterfly swords are the two traditional weapons for Wing Chun.
Was about to comment this.
