    I did the same to my Epic EVO Comp. Upgraded to XT/XTR drivetrain, SID SL fork, Reynolds/i9 wheels, and carbon post and bars and it's under 23# for a medium.

    Nice build there, during the Pedaldemic, I did a complete rebuild on a 21 Epic EVO Expert, It's 21.5 pounds now, drivetrain is the most important for handling/exceleration, XO1 cassette, XX1 gold chain, XO1 cranks, 36t Specialized Eagle aluminum chainring, XTR SPD pedals, Roval SL wheels/removed tape, put in plugs, Stans Race tubless, Specialized 2.35 S-Works Fast T5/T7 Trac front, 2.35 T5/T7 Renegade rear, Rock Shock Sid Ultamate fork, Sram Centerline 2 piece rotors w/metalic pads, Syncros Hixon carbon bars w/built in 50mm stem, ESI Chunky grips, Fizik 3 D printed carbon saddle, Thompson Masterpiece seatpost, I've got 2,500+ miles on it in15 months, all trail miles, this bike is forgiving, fast, comfortable, I could get it lighter, but its amazing now, I have ODI BMX end caps(much stronger then ESI's) Wheel computer, electric bell, bottle cage w/tool, custom stem cap, Rock Shox front fender, Blue color frame, blue Roval wheel stickers, blue forks, blue grips, the brakes, shifter, headset, bottom bracket are all that left from stock, so not a total weight weennie !!! its lighter then a S-Works Epic EVO, and a few thousand $ less.. (I sold the parts I took off to lessen the $ load)..

    Did a similar thing. Got the base model Epic Evo and then swapped my GX axs and G2 rsc brakes from the old bike and found used race face cranks, i9 UL system wheels, "da package" bar stem combo, and AXS dropper and now have better than s-works for < $5K (minus the suspension upgrades, but I'm not a shock nerd - this is my first full squish bike)! Best part is I've got an "old bike" with a brand new drive train from the stock evo. Fun stuff, and sweet bike!

    @ericmoore9554 2 роки тому +3

    Nice! I wanted the S-Works Epic Evo but had to settle for the Expert so I upgraded everything you did and more because I also wanted remote lockout front and rear. I went all in with remote Sid Ultimate fork, custom Fox remote lockout shock, XX1 AXS derailleur, cranks, oilslick cassette, and chain, Control SL wheelset with Maxxis Ikon rear 2.3 , Ardent 2.3 front, Magura MT Trail SL 4 piston front/2 piston rear brakes (I eventually want Trickstuff Piccola but they are behind by years), ultralight bar, stem, grips, and carbon saddle, Ti eggbeater pedals, and a Bike Yoke Divine SL 80mm dropper. I even swapped out the rear shock aluminum yoke for the carbon version. Total weight (medium): 22.5 lbs. I then sold all the take-offs so probably paid not much more overall than I would have for the S-Works but this one is lighter and has remote lock out.

    • @LuckyLuke6543
      @LuckyLuke6543 2 роки тому

      Thats quite impressive and light build. Does epic evo have internal cable route for shock remote lockout or you are forced to have this cable routed externally ?

    • @ericmoore9554
      @ericmoore9554 2 роки тому +1

      @@LuckyLuke6543 It does have internal routing. There is a little hole just above the shock on the underside of the top tube with a rubber grommet that will take a cable. This was a major selling point for me. However, there are only three entry holes on the head tube, so given one for the rear brake hose, then you have two spaces left for three cables. Thus either (or both) the seat post or the derailleur needs to be AXS. I chose the derailleur because the AXS seatpost is pretty heavy and I love AXS shifting.

    • @michaeljensen4095
      @michaeljensen4095 2 роки тому +1

      Wow, I hadn’t thought of replacing the aluminum yoke. How much weight does that save?? I made lots of the upgrades you did, but with XTR drivetrain including the cranks with 4iiii power meters - that’s probably the biggest weight sacrifice I still have. I have the 125mm carbon KS Lev so I can really ride it like a trail bike. I do have the Trickstuff Piccola and highly recommend if you can find them. I’m so much happier with my custom Evo than if I had the S-Works.

    • @ericmoore9554
      @ericmoore9554 2 роки тому

      @@michaeljensen4095 Cool I want the trickstuff brakes but they’ve not taking orders and I can’t find them. I had to replace my rear Magura because it keeps failing so I’m putting on an xtr 2 piston. XTR brakes were my second choice after the piccolas but they weren’t available at the time. It’s the story of my life that when I finally have enough money to build my dream bike there’s a worldwide shortage of parts. The carbon yoke saves an ounce or so.

    • @michaeljensen4095
      @michaeljensen4095 2 роки тому

      @@ericmoore9554 I have to say… I think XTR 2-piston are pretty marginal compared to Magura. I think the most important thing with Magura is having someone who knows how to bleed and set the mineral oil up properly. I just swapped out XTR two-piston on my hardtail for a set of MT8s which I had laying around and it is amazing how much better they are. I have gone through this XTR to Magura MT8s on three bikes now… the only time I have ever had an issue was when I was traveling and had a mechanic work on them and screwed up the bleed… my home mechanic re-bled and all good. That said, the Picollas are even better and lighter. Supply should open up before long now that DT Swiss owns them. Hope they don’t screw up the quality.

    Just collecting the 2022 EPIC EVO Comp this week. Your video confirmed the 2 things to change. Wheels - carbon rims is the goal and the cranks as I want 170mm as opposed to the 175mm standard. So I'll take some weight out while I am at it.
    My only reservation will be how well I can now ride the chunky downhill trails as compared to my previous 2018 Trek Fuel EX 9.8. 130/130 vs 120/110. hoping i am not unhappy with this change.

      I just built a revel ranger to 24.5 lbs. go for the control SL wheels, xo1 cassette, xx1 crank, one up carbon bar. And your good to go. At a minimum go with the wheels. Game changer.

    Sweet build. What was the total cost of parts switched out compared to purchasing an S-works

      I need to tally it up but thousands less. I was patient and didn't overpay for anything and found some good deals amongst the chaos.

      The s-works is another ca 700g less (saves further weight on frame, brakes, saddle, xx1 axs etc) I upgraded my evo expert similarly as you (cassette, handlebar, crank) but kept the control carbon wheels (vs getting control SL), now at 11.1kg with pedals. Superb bike! Ride safe & enjoy!

      @@krausol2802 Yeah, my setup makes up the difference with a lighter crankset, bars, stem, and a much lighter dropper since the S-works comes with the AXS reverb. 11.1kg is great! It's a super fun bike.
