I concur with the sketchy description of the Epic Evo 7. It is freaking fast but you need to ride it like you’re being paid-it’s a job. This new Epic 8 is intriguing.

Swapping to wider wheels, 30mm from the stock 25mm, on my epic evo 7 really helped calm it down and made it even faster.

That's my same issue, too! Epic evo 7 is terrifying on wet roots, even with chunky tires like wicked wills or dissectors. That coastal California fog makes wet slippery conditions, even during drought times.

In your original Epic 8 review you mentioned the bike was still in the "low" flip chip setting, and in this video you have it in the "high" flip chip setting. Which did you prefer and what was the difference in bike handling characteristics of each of these settings on the same Epic 8 bike? Thanks for your vides, they're done really well!

Specialized does this thing where they will remove a bike from their browsing and search pages, but if you google the exact model it will still show up. I can still find the page for my 09 Stumpjumper FSR like that. Point being as of a couple of weeks ago I found the base epic's website (no longer listed on Spec's home page). They are as of time of writing 40% off and there are several available locally. They are listed for less than my industry discount on a 2024 epic HARDTAIL.

I own two Epic Evo 7 S-Works , I believe you consider it "twitchy or sharp" because of two things. The Specialized tires are not comparable to Rekons 2.4 , Rekons are way grippier and also larger volume. And second that bike was designed with a 60mm Stem and in the test was changed to 40mm stem witch impacts directly on the speed of the movement of the handlebars. My two cents

The old Epic Evo 7 is great for the days where I want to be on edge a little more or where the trail is flatter and/or less technical.
P.S. This was almost entirely a comparison of the two bikes on the descents, any comparison with climbing (flat pedaling, sustained climbs, technical climbs)? Does the new Epic pedal just as well but provides more insurance on the downs?

They already have the stump jumper, now it’s a “trail country” bike between xc and trail…do we really need this much choices lol. It’s true I just bought last years Revel Rail for a really good deal..I don’t need latest models.

I bet you'll like the Santa Cruz Blur TR. I"m wondering how the new Epic Eco 8 compares.

I'd like to get a ride on the blur... I've never ridden one

I'm coming to the opinion that there are only really 2 types of Trailbikes to own. The first are the bikes with 120mm forks like the new Epic or the Spur. The second are the bikes with 160mm forks like the Stumpy Evo or the Yeti SB140 Lunch Ride. Avoid bikes with 130, 140, and 150mm forks. Either go for the light fast snappy 120mm fork bike or go for the slack capable burly 160mm fork bike. The 120mm fork bike is the Gravel, XC, Downcountry bike for long rides on gravel, green, and blue trails. (Yes, with Gravel or XC tires, XC bikes make great Gravelbikes.) The 160mm fork bike is the Trail, All-Mountain, Enduro bike for blue and black trails.
I have an Epic 7 Evo Comp and a Stumpy Evo Expert. I'm not a Specialized fanboy but Specialized has been giving such huge discounts that I couldn't say no. I've almost got two bikes for the price of one. I love both these bikes. With the Epic Evo, I do rides that combine pavement, gravel, and easier singletrack. The Stumpy Evo is for serious singletrack: fast, steep, and rough.

Depends on the trails you ride and how you want to ride. My 140/130 Stumpjumper is well suited for my local trails and riding style. That’s why I have it. My previous short travel 29 left me wanting but the bigger bikes are too much bike for my trails. The stumpy nails it for me.

Yeah, you're not wrong... a two bike quiver is ideal but most people usually only have 1 mtb

It’s not a race bike. I’m sorry but it’s not. I love specialized bikes and own 3 of them but Trek and Scott are going to have much better XC bikes than specialized. Pains me to say it but you can’t just throw on a Sid fork and call it an XC bike!
