  • National Banned Book week is October 1-7, 2023. To bring attention to the upsurge in book banning and censorship taking place in the United States, SCBWI will host Joyce McIntosh, Assistant Program Director for the Freedom to Read Foundation (FTRF), an organization dedicated to First Amendment education, litigation, and advocacy. Joyce will discuss ways that creators of books for children, teens, and young adults can address the current surge in challenges to books for young people.

Thank you for your courageous presentation. My four children are in between the ages of 30 and 40. I began hearing about this topic in the last year and began attending school board meetings. All these details I never experienced as a parent. I am in a season of educating myself on this topic. Though my children are grown, this is having a negative impact on our community.
