I hope everyone is doing well out there in these very interesting times. I just wanted to make a note - from previous videos I have created on this bunch, many point out the fact there is a Triathlete on a time trial bike in the bunch, and that is a big no no. While I appreciate the reasons behind this, it is very common in Noosa - which is a global training hub for elite Triathletes - for experienced riders on TT bikes to join the bunch. You'll notice hands on the brakes unless rolling into the wind. This topic in its entirety is a fair old rabbit hole conversation, and not what the video is about, hence not something I bring up. I just wanted to make a point of this, as I know some will mention. Cheers, Cam
Back in the 90's when I was living outside the Vancouver area, I was very fortunate to have several friends and their mates who were pros or national team riders. Ride with them, you listen and learn, or never get asked out again. You got used to riding at close quarters, not half wheeling, taking clean turns at the front and superior bike handling skills...
This is a great video of which 90% of the cycling community in Australia should adhere too. Most rides with numbers more than 2 are usually messy af. Well done.
Haha! I know I know. Never planned on three but when each video gets over 100k views and thousands of likes that’s the people telling you they like it!
I was mostly intrigued by the difference in pedal strokes visible in the video, you just see how much more powerful his pedal stroke is when he is next to the other riders. Nice video!
Great video Cam, every cyclist needs to see and adhere to this, on some sportives here in the UK we have riders all over the place with no consideration for others putting themselves and others in danger. Car drivers hate us enough but dont give them any more ammo, stay safe and we'll be back riding in bunches before you know it 🤞🤞🤞
It’s good to see vids like this so you can pick up on the small details that you are pointing out, I’m sure the guy that got the horn blown at him and a yell would learn something about his ride if he saw this that perhaps was a bit of a blur at the time it happened.
Sweet info . Im a noob to road cycling so no group rides yet. But this vid is invaluable. I can see how letting the rider in front of you know to "roll out" as you pass at the back. So they dont have to keep looking behind or miss your wheel, seems like good manners. Approved✔
This is why , clubs or states should have a team time trial race series , especially at junior level , it teaches rides not to surge and to roll over super clean , cos u are riding for the team not for your own ego
I am surprised you didn't comment on the etiquette of using flashing tail lights in a tight pace line. Cycling pacelines are already highly visible to motorists; a far greater danger than not being seen is not moving predictably. Flashers command attention resources that are much better spent in staying tight and close, rather than moving around to take blinding and misaligned LEDs out of your peripheral vision. Flash lights all you want on your own. If you feel compelled to do so in a group, go to the back so motorists approaching from distance can see it, rather than the guy 2 feet off your wheel: he can see you just fine, and has a ton of other stuff to manage. If looking at flashing lights don't distract you, consider that they might distract others.
here in philadelphia we got the world famous Drives ride we teach to say last man and when at the front the man in front tells the rider pulling up when he is clear by saying clear
@@VN-je7rf Yes I agree. That dude was unpredictable and not cool. However, it is in my view totally fine to ride your Tri/TT bike in a group as long as you follow the unwritten rules.
Yep the hints in the name, TT bike. Not for group rides and me being impulsive would want to tell the guy to get lost and go out on a solo ride or team TT where no one is beside him switching positions at high speed such as in a chain gang like demonstrated here. TT bikes are good for straight-line speed and not manoeuvrability.
I think its around the 9:40 mark that you can see that side by side comparision of caleb and another group rider (grant?) - damn, calebs legs are huge..given his height its no wonder he is such a rocket.
lol ok i thouoght he was doing some kind of special turn lol , we here in america call this pace line and pull through and yes all your tips are great and apply

I hope you told that "unpredictable cyclist" what he did and that he should NEVER do that again!!! He even could kill some of you from possible car accident.....!!!!!!!!!!!
I actually thought this video would be about turns or cornering. So here we're really talking about moving through a pass-line? Never heard of "rolling a turn."
In a bunch ride wouldn't it be easier to say 1 wheel length from back wheel. It's easier for people to remember instead of 30-50cm and best of all safer.. I would say 30cm is with a group that is very familiar with every rider, I didn't share this video because some riders in my group are dangerous and don't want to be decreasing the margin of safety. Apart from the distance this is an excellent video, thanks.
cheers mate, and I hear you. It’s hard to make a call because if I say 1 wheel people will say you’re missing out on draft and it you go in too close it’s dangerous. I just made a call from the research and my own experiences but I hear your point 💯

5:45 Should be another rule for rolling turns, don't show up on your Tri/TT bike
