The hardest part of every workout is getting my ass on the bike. Once I’m kitted up and pedaling I can just get on with it and leave the excuses behind.
+1000! This is exactly how I feel aswell. I have never not gone for a ride when I had my kit on, you're already 50% on the way, only other thing you have to do is hop on the bike.
Brilliant advice, I like to think I’ve applied this way of looking at the world for most of my “thinking” life. As an ex Royal Navy Field Gunner it’s what made us get out of bed and train for selection. As a now, 70 years old, I still do loads of sports, cycling, kayaking, hiking. My problem is my wife, she keeps trying to remind me and give me reasons to not do anything, starting with age. Superb channel!
As some have put it: "Age is a state of mind" if you think you are too old then you become too old but if you think and picture yourself as young then you become young. I'm "70" with a 20 year old mind, I cycle and ski both alpine and cross country, I work seasonally as a ski patroler (as a son put it "I get paid to ski"), and I try to grow a garden if I have time.
Getting out in rain and out of bed and just go that is something i do and can do :) hardest thing for me is the food intake, I just eat to much not so good stuff (getting slightly better at it work in progress ;) thanx for the advice Scott.
At the college I went to ages ago, there was a bike race I think it was 20km there were quite a few ppl entered. One guy showed up on an upright granny bike with basket and clanky fenders. He actually won the race. He was a competitive cyclist but still. More and more the bike industry is convincing ppl they need to save 40grams by changing component a or component b etc. Currently I ride a heavy hybrid with areo bars since that is what is available to me at the moment. Just get out there and ride no matter the weather or bike. It all helps! Great video from bulletproof!
I have finally realised that having mates and scheduled group rides is the best motivation. There’s commitment, expectation and fear of getting dropped to keep me in top shape.
So much truth to this. I can remember when I was competing I never gave the weather much thought. I rarely used an alarm to wake up. I just got up, dressed out and hopped on my bike. If it was raining I went back inside and got my rain gear. Riding my bike was the hardest part of my day. Everything else was easy after that. Without goals now I find it nearly impossible to ride consistently and any excuse keeps me off the bike.
I used to really love cycling. I would go out with a big grin for the every day commute or weekend group ride or wet muddy cyclocross day even though I might get lapped (I'm not so fast with asthma). But after a few years long stint of nothing due to various factors and injury, getting back on has become a chore. I go to bed with ambition for tomorrows long trainer but wake up really not into it. At least I am making progress at the gym. This vid, I think this is the way forward for me.
I came back to cycling a few years back from being a 20 min 10 mile TT guy …. To an overweight 30min 10 min TT guy …. And it was so tempting to give up ‘I’m too old - it’s too hard - bla, bla, bla ….. and I had to recalibrate - every session was a choice - don’t do it and get worse, or do it and hopefully get better … 5 years later I’m still not a 20min 10 guy and most likely never will be …. But I’m 100 times fitter and stronger than I was and so pleased I didn’t take the easy route and give up …. 1 life - even if you’ll never be the best - be the best you can be
I love you. Don’t need the advice like most as I’m a nut case with training, my issue is to much training. 2am zwift race and up at 6am. Recovery is also slowing at the age of 42. Either way, you’re the best on UA-cam.
I hate cycling first thing in the morning, it's not natural, and here in the highlands I'll wait until the sun is up enough to melt the ice, that's usually around mid-day and still in the shadows it'll be icy.... So a nice brunch then out on the bike...if it's raining/snowing/doesn't thaw it's Zwift. I like cycling and don't want to end up in the position of hating it as some "duty" I have to perform to prove to the 9 people who follow me on Strava that I've still got it (did I ever have it, that's the real question...?)
motivation doesn't exist .. is just an emotion... just do it ! Its a thing i always do... i even love to ride on "bad weather" ... i don't know im crazy or sometnhing but the feeling is so great... Cold ? just pedal and you get hot in a minute Rain ? just pedal and learn to love it ? i don't know because i do like the rain touching my face =P
I'm a wimp; any sign of rain and I'm on the Indoor trainer, riding in a gale force wind is idiotic, and if it's icy i don't venture out after a bad experience one winter on an ungritted road.

same.
300 days of sunshine here so bad weather days give me some rest. Still, at 72, my focus is health, so I push on.
Agreed. I'm in South Africa. I don't need to ride in rain.

Your advice about arches and squats has been a game changer. Thank you!

The voice talks me out of training, is the same voice that laughs at me later.
I had a friend who used to say “fat doesn’t care that it is raining/snowing” (meaning it will grow anyways). I often think of that

"I don't like going out in the rain coach".
"That's fine, go and find another coach". 😂😂

Doing the 10 minutes when you really don't have time is a solid tip.
I honestly don't want to ever ride in a group, but these videos provide great insight and motivation all the same.
I quit stopped riding with the local groups. To much drama.
Thank you, Coach:)
Thanks scott
I needed to hear this. Too many excuses
Yes coach! 10 second rule! You convinced me… can you convince my morning #2? 💩⏳⏳⏳
Great as usual Scott , you should have thousands of followers
You just lit a fire under my butt... gonna go ride when I get home tonight... no excuses!

You complain about riding a steel bike in 1989 ?
Blah-blah-blah for 10 mins. Do resistance training to not to be weak.
❤ I’m here for the blah blah blah.
Ever since Craig Ferguson monologues stoped. This is close enough for my fix.
