    Excellent! Thank you for posting this! I bought a grinder just like this yesterday, and was looking for some tips on how to use it, adjust it and clean it. This was very helpful!

      It's a great antique AND a great grinder. You just need to experiment with the setting that's right for your type of brewing. Good luck.

    I "restored" my Great Grandmother's Arcade Crystal #3 about 9 months ago by glass beading, cleaning and repainting it.
    I made a wood backing board that measures 20"X7" which is approx. the same height as the entire grinder.
    It's mounted into a wall stud and I hid the 2 mounting screws directly behind the grinder. You will need to remove the grinder from the board to gain access to the mounting screws but this has provided a rock-solid mount with no movement at all.
    Excellent video, Thanks

    I have a # 3 that has been in the family forever but mine has nothing below the grinder body. No catch cup nor anything to hold one. It will be easy to fabricate something so that isn't a problem. This grinder probably hasn't been used in 60-75 years. Thanks for showing me how they work.

    I just purchased one today but it has no glass!! Any idea where I can find glass?

      Hi Melissa, you may want to try eBay or Etsy for vintage jelly jars. When the original glass would break, many owners (1900’s) would substitute with jelly jars.

    Excellent presentation 👏
    I just got one yesterday on Ebay with no hopper or glass, but I'll be making single cups so it's ok.

    Thanx, we've had one of these kicking around from wifey's grandmother. Our electric grinder gave up the ghost so I tried our Arcade Crystal but like yours the grinds were too course. Your demonstration showed me how to fix it.

    Thank you for posting this. It's the only video I've found that so thoroughly showcases the use of these antique grinders. You've definitely helped me make up my mind to look for and buy one.

      +David Manavi Buy it. I got one in an Illinois antique mall last year and it out-performs the Cuisinart Burr grinder I'd been using for five years!

      +Bogframe mine doesn't have a wood back frame attached can I still just screw the grinder in the wall without the back frame??

    • @Bogframe
      @Bogframe 8 років тому

      That's what I did, but use ither plastic sleeves or toggle bolts or it'll come right out of the wall.

    Thanks for taking the time to create this video. We brought this grinder a few months ago, and the only part not original was the cup. I didn't know it wasn't original until I watched your video. We also did not know that the grind was adjustable, but the setting it was on was just fine for an electric drip coffee maker. Thanks again for the helpful video.

    Just a quick question. Mine is unpainted just like the one in the video. I have seen pictures of this grinder with blue paint. I have also seen this grinder with the silver colored paint on the accents. Do you know if these all originally came painted, or not?

      You inspired me to tear down my old Armin Trosser. I cleaned it and lubed the shaft. It works so much better now! Still watching Arcades though.

    Mine doesn't have the wood back frame can I still screw it in the wall by itself or does it need a back piece .

    • @cutley2b
      @cutley2b  8 років тому

      Hi Dave. Yes, you can just screw it to the wall without the back plate. I just did that to make it stand out more.

    • @davorebo5790
      @davorebo5790 8 років тому

      +cutley2b so I screwed it in the drywall with the plastic sleeves but it still has a slight wobble when I spin it ..is this okay??

    • @cutley2b
      @cutley2b  8 років тому +1

      +David Reab I'm sorry, I should gave been more clear. You should make sure you attach it to studs in the wall with heavy screws. The plastic sleeves in drywall will probably not hold securely. When grinding beans, it takes a little effort as the internal gears are cast iron. There is a lot of pressure between the gears and the beans and your wobbling will get worse and eventually the grinder will fall off the wall.
