You should have polished the top instead of painting it
Cast iron is different. It will just rust.
I was thinking electroplating would have looked nice. Apparently it is difficult to plate cast metals.
@@therealjammit Yup, After doing some research you're right.
@@AbdelhakOussaid regardless the gold looks horrible
The main frame was made with box joint not with dovetail's
What I particularly like about this video is that you explain what you are doing in the various steps, rather than just using non-narrated video. It is very helpful to understand the process. Nicely done!
I love your restoration projects but this one disturbed me a little. Why the phillips modern screw ? It looks so out of place, either put nails or weathered screws ... The same with the screw for the handle, why not paint it black ?
that's what i'm thinking
Yeah I'm shocked seeing that!
At least he didn't use security torx screws. That would have been hilarious.
Phillips screws are barely modern. If he's restoring and repainting the whole thing why would he "weather" anything? And yes paint a highly worn surface like a screw in the center of the handle so the paint can wear away and flake off and look bad. Go grab something and restore it yourself if you think you have the right idea, make some videos.
@@ghostrider433 It is called suggestion ...
And I do restore stuff, I just do not make video out of it.
Miss your electronic how-to videos KipKay! Short and to the point, yet you broke things down so amateurs like myself could do them. Hope to see some new ones soon!
I actually just started the restoration of a similar model, I found it in my one friends basement. Pretty cool that someone else is working on the same thing
📼📽😊radical
Finally, a comment not talking about the new screws.
Why those screws...... :(
There are brand new little nails. You had to use them instead of the screws.
The drawer knob could have been screwed from the other side to hide the screwhead, it looks hideous
I thought the same thing. Put some wood filler in the knob, drill a new hole in the backside and screw it in from there.
Having been a sub for about 8 years or so i like the interesting new direction for the channel. Keep up the good work.
same here, i agree
I remember when he did DIY electronic devices etc...
@@MineCRAFTsalalala remember the $1 pill bottle survival kit? I actually made it and take it everywhere outdoors with me
I could've happily watched a couple of hours of you doing this. Thank you!
I appreciate you actually speak in these restorations😜
Why would you change to new screws, kinda ruins it all
Brass slotted screws would have fitted the age of it better I reckon.
that's what i'm thinking
I honestly love how you're still making videos, thank you for being here and doing this! I've been watching since I was around 8 and really enjoy seeing the new style and content!
Nice little restore. Just a note but to be a bit more sympathetic to the restoration you should have used flat head screws instead in keeping with the style of the item from when it was made. You could also have done away with screws for the drawer sides by simply gluing the sides together. Modern wood glues are quite strong.
Didn’t even make the coffee... );
My mom has something similar but a lot smaller, but my mom uses it to grind black peppercorns into pepper!
Big coffee nut, here, so I super love the restoration of such a classic coffee mill!
Maybe you can adjust the grind setting with that adjustment knob, but I see you got a super inconsistent grind size at the end of the video.
I’ve been subscribed for probably 5 years or more. Took a long break from watching really glad to see your still making videos. Keep doing it.
I remember my grandmother had one of these sitting on the mantel back in my younger years and I never knew what it was. 20+ years later I finally have an answer. Great restoration, KipKay and if you ever get the chance, please see about doing a restoration video on a vintage Tonka truck.
Nice restoration although I'd have probably buffed the whole cast iron top and lacquered it rather than paint (just my taste). BTW, it's Min-Wax, not Min-I-Wax.
Yes kip kay! Love the video idea👍
PLZ KEEP MAKING EM!!!
This is so fascinating man! Nice restoration!
That looks really good. I have sincere appreciation for restoration.
Been following since high school. Thank you Kip Kay
Keep up the restorations! Great videos!
Love the present format. Great job.
I miss your diy projects kipkay
Were you grabbing the screw with the wrench instead of the nut?
Those screws make it look awful!
i can't believe i missed this from you! nostalgia aside, this is really good content! miss me with the dentist drill though ahah
wow! amazing work kipkay!
Just for clarification the box was held together with box joints not dovetails. Enjoy for videos
Try tightening a nut slightly to break the rust before trying to back it off…
The screws wouldn't have bothered me if the top didn't get spray painted -- would have gone with the pin in the handle better - etc.
I know i have one of those in my basement!. Also yesterday i found a crank handle someone was using for a file handle! 🙋🏻♂️
Awesome! DIY’ERS OF THE WORLD UNITE! 👍
I wish to see a vintage camera restored to a modern look
So, are you just going to be doing restoration videos from now on, or are we going to see traditional content in the future?
I miss the as seen on TV Videos but I guess this is now a restoration chanel
For me the as seen on TV videos were a little crappy ,this new series is not that bad but I really miss the hacks and lasers diy videos :(
Beautiful job, Kip.
Pliers = wrench
Box joint = dovetails
Ok kipkay.
The point of restoration is to get it as close to its original state, not make a kitsch.
Yeah, nice work, except the screw though the drawer pull. Probably the original was a machine screw.
Here since weekend projects

My daughter recently picked up this exact same model for me from an antique store. But I cannot figure out how to adjust the grind. Anybody know? Thanks !!!!!
Supperb work. Only this screw on drower nob looks strange. Use one of older screws. Love your channel. Keep doing .......
Damn, I completely forgot that I used to have almost the same model
What happened to that Classic Clip?
Oh how you've fallen kipkay 😪
Looks great!
You should give that grinder to My mechanics, he make a new one wing nut
Why do people stay subscribed to Kipkay just to dislike his videos, I don't get it.
JuJu Oshiee cuz we can
Excellent tutorial. I'm starting my own restoration but what did you do to the metal that will be grinding the coffee? Any special treatment? Just grind and polish?
Finger jointed box* Not dovetail. :) Love your videos I've been a subscriber for about 8 or 9 years now!!!
Nice work!
It's about 100 years for it to look like that and you just messed up😒😤
Nice build, but the Phillips sqrew has to go for the knob.
Box joint not dovetail. Great video!
Nice project☕
That wooden part is not using dove tail joints its using box joints.
This is really interesting
God I love coffee ❤️❤️
The philips screws make it look like a modern knockoff.
Jan Klaassen hey hey hey, spoilers lol
Awesome 📼☻
now auction it for an insane high price
I miss the o.g. Kipkay
Those aren’t dovetails; they are box joints or “finger joints”
Bring back your unboxing videos
Looks great...
Why is the us flag in your pfp upside down
@@moki2093 The flag flown upside down signifies distress. This nation is in distress and in need of help....
Can you restore my faith in humanity?
Those aren't dovetails, they are box joints.

Box joint not dove tails
Kipkay!! You the man dawg , been watching since 2006!
👍
Yo,your still around?!?!
I’m pretty sure it’s a pepper grinder , Vietnam has many of these
Hi
Love these vids
you screwed up using screws
There's a lot of restoration channels but your by far my favorite because you talk in the videos. Why does everyone just put subtitles up? Use your mouth people!
It's much more enjoyable just watching people work. It's not that difficult to figure out what's going on.
That wing nut is not original i think
Lol that wasn't even a proper restoration
the new screws ruined it for me :(
Do you want to restore my grinder it is very similar. I believe in better condition than the one in this video. The metal is black. I will mail it if you will restore it.
I'm having a really hard time deciding whether or not this is supposed to be a parody or not. The end result is kinda godawful, and you didn't even really restore it, you just kinda cleaned it up. The handle actually looks worse with the screw, and the sticker is ridiculous. Then again, there are some aspects that make it seem like you're not even trying to take this seriously, but I'm just not sure.
don't look at his last restoration
While you did a good job refinishing the coffee mill you ruined the authenticity by putting all the screws into it. Bad bad bad.
Lol rusted nuts anywhere are never a good thing.
I've been watching you sense the beginning. I'm liking your new series
