    Superb video again, Never even thought of using braid for a loop rig snood. Makes complete sense, very small diameter line with better contact with the fish

      Thanks Mike. Its harder for crabs to cut through the braid. I also have braid hooklengths made up for boom rigs - useful at Gravesend when mitten crabs are rampant.

      Happy new year to you Carmelo! It's more satisfying catching on rigs you've constructed yourself, than on shop bought ones. That's not to say you shouldn't buy them all ready made up and I do carry shop bought ones in case I run out of what I need; its just that you can make them up to your own specifications and have several variations of the same pattern, giving you more options.

      Thanks again Anthony 👍 Yes, plenty of whiting around - I should really be taking some to eat, but I prefer plaice and soles!

    You put me right in the mood to go fishing, then i reach the front door and feel the winter frost chill wind and say f* that. Good to see some are enjoying themselves and still getting out and about.

      You are right there! Can be difficult to motivate yourself, if the weather is against you; but once you are out and catching, you'll soon be glad you went. Thanks for watching.

      Thanks Tony - happy new year to you too! I've had whiting to about 1 1/2 lb from Chesil; but I couldn't be precise, since its not very often I'll weigh what I catch, so I wouldn't know what my PB is!

    Cracking vid ! Really enjoyed that , thank you . Had a few hols at Deal in the "80's and used to walk down to a pub called Zetland Arms I think it was. Were you somewhere near there ? If its still going .

      Nice one! Zetland Arms is in Kingsdown, the next venue south of Walmer - I used to fish there quite a lot during the winter when codling were about. Thanks for watching.

    Thanks Rod I never mind catching Whiting you just hope something different turns up.Do you know the rules for angling at the moment.

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  3 роки тому +1

      Absolutely Gary - you just have to fish through the whiting to get to something else. As for the current rules - I have been regularly checking the .gov, Sports England and Angling Trust sites ever since the first lockdown in March 2020.
      The Angling Trust collate and comment on the official guidelines and have updated their own guidelines today (11.01.21). It is worth downloading a copy of this to have with you, should you be challenged whilst fishing, or on your way to fish: anglingtrust.net/covid-19/
      I dug bait today - a short walk across the road from me - but won't be fishing there at the moment, as it has been a lot busier with dog walkers, children and others during lockdown, than normal for this time of year. I'll be going elsewhere in my local area (in accordance with Government travel guidance) where there will be less chance of contact with anyone else.

    Great content and info as always Rods
    Cant believe just how steep the shingle beach is, on alot of your favourite places you fish.I can see why you dont have to cast miles to catch.

    Do you ever cut up the whiting for bait ? also here in the colonies I like to use circle hooks with a spinner and beads . Also we use a fish finder rig with and with out a float.

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  3 роки тому

      Hi Anthony. I use fish baits for rays and sometimes for bass and had a spell using 'live bait' rigs for cod; but I haven't tried cutting up whiting for bait - no doubt dogfish and other whiting would go for that! Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Great stuff you can only catch what’s in front of you :-) who does the filming ? How to you get the zooming in & out and panning around ? Cheers

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks for that - you're right - no point in fishing for what's not there and just casting in hope. Could have a third rod set up for that; but even that needs to be carefully thought out, otherwise you just end up messing around, using up more bait and getting in to all sorts of problems when the tide starts pulling hard.
      I film the lot - or rather move action cameras around a lot - then do all of the panning / zooming in post, once I've got the footage. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    "Why, why, why 'ting?" cried the distraught angler as he fell to his knees. "Fishcakes" came the reply from the sea fishing gods! Sorry about that. Just had to be done! On a serious note, do you ever take sizable whiting for the pot (fishcakes or otherwise)? Busy session and an excellent video as per usual. The rig tying session was very helpful. Many thanks as always. Keep safe and keep healthy. Cheers. Ken

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  3 роки тому +1

      Nice one Ken. Fishcakes or not, I'd love to catch a whiting at the moment! Two fish in the last two outings - a dab and a rockling! I should have taken some of the better whiting - I haven't eaten fish for a while! Thanks for watching and hope you can get out soon.
