    ATC here, there are times when there vehicle crossings or FOD collection going on requiring a perceived prolonged holding. Also a possible phone call about an aircraft may result in a slight delay while we try to resolve any issue before letting the aircraft depart, in the event a return to the gate is necessary. I will say, in my experience, that it is very rare that a holding for departure is forgotten about. There is the possibility that a pilot has annoyed the controller and a slight delay may be imposed on said pilot but I cannot confirm nor deny ever participating in such actions.

      As someone with a CDL who DOES transport the cargo that talks back, you and your family have made a very wise choice! It's not just talking back and throwing things; it's also spitting at you, punching you, stabbing you, shooting at you, defecating/urinating inside of your vehicle, refusing to leave at the end of your workday, starting fights with the rest of the cargo, screaming at you for being allowed a 10 minute break within your workday, filming everything you do on their phones, leaving hazardous chemicals & syringes on your vehicle, committing crimes (like drug deals) on your vehicle or leaving the evidence of their crimes (like piles of security tags) on your vehicle, refusing to allow you to park in order to use a restroom, defacing your vehicle with graffiti, groping you (regardless of gender), going beyond not wearing a mask and being unsanitary by also purposefully coughing directly at your face during a pandemic, screaming at you for not agreeing to be put into a preventable accident situation (the higher their chance of death would have been, the angrier they become at you saying "no" to being part of it), etc., etc.
      All of that from the ones categorized as "adults."
      And the most frustrating part is that society has decided the driver has less rights than they do. Society has decided that the person operating the vehicle is not supposed to object to any of the things on that list. Your family's rule about not transporting them is a very wise rule, indeed!

If you could, please sign this liability form that states that you are aware of the defect and a high possibility of the plane crashing, and in an instance of the plane crashing you will not sue the company or anybody involved. I love moments like that.
      Gyros are definitely cool... if you can manage it, make sure that you get a two-place one because the joy of flight should be shared and I love having ballast that giggles like an excited school-girl and says, “Oh... This is cooooool...” - even when we’re only taxiing out to the runway...!!! ;)

    About the "we're ready" to ATC, if it seems clear and nothing is going on on the radio and you get no clearance for line up, you bet we forgot about you. Ideally you should get that clearance before you have to slow your 400+ (metric) tonnes aircraft to hold short for nothing at all. It's both inconvenient for you and your fuel usage and it isn't very environmentally friendly. So if you're ever at my airport, saying something like "we're ready when reaching" is quite ok in my book

    On my first solo I did 2 touch-and-goes with 2 beautiful landings. I came around the third time, and again, a perfect landing. I was _pissing excellence,_ *UNTIL,* after my third landing I started my right turn while rolling down the (paved) runway to head across the grass on the right side in order to get back and have my instructor tell me about how I was (by far) the best pilot he'd ever seen. (It was very obvious) However......that grass I went across also happened to be a grass runway, of course. A RUNWAY THAT WAS IN USE (of course)!! It didn't take very long to remember that however, because just as I headed across the grass I heard an amazingly loud roar, and I saw a huge shadow go over my aircraft on that beautiful, cloudless day. I went from "pissing excellence," to just pissing......in an instant.
    After getting the call on the radio to give the tower a call when I got back, I _really_ remembered everything. I remembered the beautiful yellow Stearman that had been coming in after me. A plane that I had seen dozens of times, and that *I KNEW was right behind me!!* I remembered the fact that the tower had told me to roll out to a full stop on the runway. I remembered acknowledging the instruction, and then doing a hard right turn about 1.3 seconds later.
    Yeah, there are some mistakes, that if you survive them, you absolutely will never make again, and I can honestly say that I never made that mistake again. I didn't need to, I came up with new mistakes. :-)

      @David-ei5lq 2 роки тому

      @@eclectichoosier5474 Are you serious? At the flight levels (50 to 60k) those aircraft are typically flying, the only humidity is ICE! Any liquid water freezes before attaining those flight levels. Electrically charged ice particles can attract oppositely charged ice, but ordinary commercial jets do not fly 50-60k and do not throw off charged ice or water vapor. That is why commercial jet contrails evaporate rather than grow and enlarge.

    • @eclectichoosier5474
      @eclectichoosier5474 2 роки тому

      @@David-ei5lq Water vapor can exist at low temperatures and pressures. It can even exist in what is otherwise vacuum. Ice sublimes constantly, even near absolute zero. It may happen extremely slowly, but it always happens. If deposition happens faster than sublimation, the ice grows. If slower, then it shrinks. Relative humidity (a somewhat complicated ratio of water vapor to air) plays a large part in determining this.
      Add in microscopic soot particles from an engine, or some other source of dust to act as nucleation points, and humidity can produce clouds of water or ice. With sudden disturbances in pressure, or sufficient turbulence, you may not even need the particulates.
      Also, condensation (or deposition) lowers humidity around whatever is collecting the vapor. That encourages any other particles around it which are more prone to losing water (slightly higher temperature, different phase, whatever) to evaporate and raise the humidity back to equilibrium. This is how snowflakes grow.
      It can happen at any altitude. It's just more likely at some than at others. A lot of factors influence this.
      Jets don't go to 50 - 60K very often. Military jets might, or possibly corporate jets, but not commercial jets. Some routinely get as high as 40 - 45K, but that's about as high as I've ever known them to go.
      The higher you go, the more stress there is on the skin of the aircraft. The more stress, the fewer cycles you get out of the aircraft before you have to decommission it or replace the skin (which is NOT an easy task.)
      For corporate jets, which don't fly as often, and aren't as sensitive to profitability, it's not a huge issue. But for airliners that are expected to make tens of thousands of trips, such high-altitude flying will reduce the lifespan of the aircraft enough to make a big difference.
      As to contrails - all you have to do is go outside and look up, to see that some of them grow. They certainly don't start out a mile wide, and as small as they start, diffusing over a mile would make them all but invisible.

    At least in Germany they hate it if you remind them that you're sitting there, holding short. You basically telling them, that they do a bad job.
    If you're sitting there for 4 minutes, some examples might be fud near the runway or a maintenance vehicle just finishing up work.
    They are very keen to reduce the latency for everybody, since that's how the management basically looks at the productivity of an airport - by avg delay of takeoffs/landings.
    Just some thoughts on that by a friend of mine who work on an international airport in Germany.

      @@jamesdean2185 I understand that. I feel the issue is more that the controllers in the US do clear not only an approach but also give landing clearances, if there's still traffic on the runway. So just a short distraction might lead to such an incident.
