    Surprised to see this is only your first video. Great work man!! I watched all the way through and really enjoyed it!.
    Since I know you'll see the comment, I think the only thing I might have to say that would help is just to tighten the editing and writing. A third of the video was done by the time the title card came up, which I was personally cool with, but I imagine that pace would drive viewer retention down and make the algorithm less generous.
    I subscribed! Excited to see what you make next! :)

    • @teddy_lastname
      @teddy_lastname  29 днів тому +1

      @@randomcookieboy I've been waiting for someone to catch this! Basically, what happened was the original recording of the entire walk got corrupted or something happened with how it was being imported into DaVinci Resolve, and about a good ten minutes at the end of the recording where I go to sell all of my stuff had to get cut otherwise the entire video wouldn't render correctly. Live and learn I suppose, but it actually wasn't as much as I had hoped, maybe only a few thousand caps more than The Gun Runners would've given me. 🥲

    so impressed with the video! really well put together, very thoughtful, and from just. some random guy youtube showed to me seemingly on a whim.
    as a reply to this comment, im gonna go on a short rant. the TL:DR is that i agree with you that your experience is awesome and superior to what bethesda is making today.

    • @arcanealchemist3190
      @arcanealchemist3190 2 місяці тому +1

      okay, rant time.
      absolutely, a smooth frictionless gameplay experience is way less interesting narratively than the alternative. that said, the goal of like, 99% of game developement is to remove friction. that's because there are two kinds of friction.
      the kind most devs want to remove, I'm going to call "unintended" friction. these are things the devs see getting in the way of the experience they want the player to have. if your loading screens are so long and frequent that your players are giving up, it's wise to remove that unintended obstacle.
      then, there is intended friction. these are things like being overencumbered or hitting a vendor cap when selling things. the devs recognized a behavior in their games that they wanted to modify, that being item vacuuming players not thinking about anything other than shoot, loot, scoot. but the issue is that if you apply that friction tactlessly, it has the same impact as that unintended friction, of making the game worse.
      back to starfield as an example of friction gone wrong, the balance of the loot in that game is so out of whack that it isn't uncommon for you to walk back with a backpack full of only the most valuable loot available from an "episode," as you called them, and even if you visited every vendor in the galaxy, you'd soon find no one had any credits to buy your guns.
      it feels bad to play, and doesn't effectively change the players behavior, because they're already choosing wisely what to pick up, and stopping to sell things when their backpacks are full, but they aren't rewarded by a release in the friction.
      and then, there's the event you described, somewhere in the middle. the devs didn't WANT you to treck, overencumbered, all the way to the bunker to sell your stuff. that was pure emergent gameplay. and that can't be predicted or planned for, it can only be cultivated by having interacting systems with depth and impact. that's why rimworld works despite being kind of a shit gameplay experience. it cultivates emergent storytelling.

    Anyways- yeah I agree that Ultimate Sawyer mod is one of the best experienced I've played. The only real problem I had was the fact it was so annoying to keep you hydrated. 😔 That's genuinely the only problem with it. Otherwise It's one of the BEST mods for New Vegas period.

    • @teddy_lastname
      @teddy_lastname  2 місяці тому +1

      The Vault 13 Canteen goes some way towards making hydration less of a chore, but I kind of weirdly love scrounging for water. Like finding purified water in a loot table is instant dopamine.

    • @kwagar9810
      @kwagar9810 2 місяці тому +1

      @@teddy_lastname I cannot disagree with that. Finding water gives you a massive sigh of relief, and it does make you consider buying it from venders.

    I see no reason why it can't be both the story and the mechanics that play a role in NV's staying power. However, I think you won't see many videos go in depth about the systems because its not as upfront as the story is - I know people that don't even understand what DT was (and how it worked) after several play throughs.
    This may not seem like a big deal - but it is. There is a reason why despite the not as compelling of a story or as much "system friction" Fallout 4 still does much better than NV in terms of bringing in new players. In fact, I would not introduce my casual friends to Fallout NV, I would start them with 4. Despite me liking NV much more.
    Is one better than the other? Maybe. However, every Fallout game has a role to play - even Brotherhood of Steel (just so I can remind a few mouth breathers at No Mutants Allowed that Interplay was not a safe haven for the series).

    the game engine is just so awful it makes playing this game difficult. 1 and 2 are good but turn based is quite slow. 4 is ok, but everything else about it is bad
