My Mom (and Li) Cried to see MY HOUSE in the Thai Countryside (Chum Phuang)

Surprise! and welcome (back) to Chum Phuang.
I invite you to look past the disarray because honestly, I was quite happy in this house. Today, I often think back and greatly miss the years that I was working as a teacher in Chum Phuang. I am happy to share this video as it even reminds me to be thankful for where (we) have come, and where (we) can reach next when we embrace the full range of our own past experiences. Mental and Physical.
Watching this video, I can tell you directly that you will get to know a lot more about me, and understand more about my life in Thailand, just by watching this one video. This could go some way towards explaining both my personal 'mission,' and my source of happiness, my positive outlook on life, and where I find the source of the gratitude with which I (usually :) ) live!
Faith in God, and a faith that holds both hope and love at the forefront of any personal action or ideal (and also just a LOT of goofy fun times living as a single white guy in free school housing, even when none of the other teachers wanted to live there!) these are basic and important things that would probably color all of my own words, actions, and also be the lens through which I now (almost 10 years later) experience life as a subject myself.
I have wanted the chance to make this video for awhile now, and a huge massive hug and thank you to my friend Ba Mohng (Auntie Mohng) for showing up at exactly the right time!*
*here, Li might add, why did the Gecko have to choose this very same time as well?

I was growing up in a small village like that.
At middle school, I had an American teacher from Main, and her name is Jen( Jenjira). She stayed in a house like that but it was not abandon condition. She was always drink Pepsi bc she was worry about drinking rain water.
One night, my school had a party . My friend and I got to stay overnight in her room. That was the time that she showed us her home pictures in Main. I would never think that I will get to go to America. I feels so special to be with her in that one night.
She was the queen of the ball party and she brought balloons in the room.
We laid on the futon on the floor and she laid on her bed. The balloons were up on the ceiling. That was one of my best memory and you, Joe,remind me of that.
Now I live happily in the US with my Thai -American family. I am lucky to get to go back to visit my Thailand family very often.
I miss Thailand all the time. Life is amazing and wonderful but sometimes you have to stay very far from your Mother land.

My grandma passed in March from covid and when I came across this video I started crying when you saw pa Mong and started tearing and I started to hear her say such loving things I started to cry myself. She reminds me of my grandma whom I extremely miss soo much. Glad you were able to see her after a long time

i always wanted visiting my first school and house in Thailand for more than 3 years. i have visited it for 2 times already since i left, now i am in my 8th year in thailand. The teachers and people around are still warm and very welcoming. i understand the feeling my friend, the feeling just cause goosebombs everywhere

My mom cried when she saw my first apartment. Trust me, they were not tears of joy 🤣. Like you, it was my first place all by myself. I was a new college grad with my first job. It was the first time in my life I was totally responsible for everything. My parents gave me a great foundation and it was time for my own journey. That was 36 years ago. There’s been so many life lessons learned over those years. Thanks for sharing your journey and your happiness and love for your own walk on this earth. It’s weird, because when people in who come from such poverty. Can be humble, but our richness comes from God. As a kid who grew up in Ghana 🇬🇭, didn’t have as much as I had now! Thank the Lord we serve a God that’s perfect! Joel that was amazing to see your humble beginnings! The Lord had molded you for a world and time as this!
