One thing I want to point out having recently needed to sell on Ebay to survive between jobs: A lot more of your money went to Ebay vs. the seller than they’re showing. They straight up lie about the quality of shipping you’re paying for, but if the seller tries to bypass this and get you a good shipping option, Ebay will hold their money a month longer for getting you nice shipping. By the time I was done selling my last tube amp (worth $900 new) I barely made $50 off it. Sellers aren’t ripping you off or being as nefarious as it may seem. Really rough platform.
I sold on ebay in order to make money/save up for my first PC (refurbished foot massagers back in 2018) and I probably could've kept selling if it hadn't been for me already having built my PC and ebay being the WORSE platform ever. Everything is easy to do and the process of getting your shipping label is easy as well but I would always be on edge because in the event of a customer claiming they never got something its 50/50 on whether or not ebay actually sides with you. The countless stories I would hear from people. It's as if ebay treats you like a seller on Amazon with the way they side with customers and treat their sellers like garbage. I stopped selling with them after a supposed error in my package weight that resulted in a 12 dollar charge by the shipping company. When I asked ebay and told them that the package couldn't have been a different weight because I had sold multiple of the same product they told me there was nothing they could do. They hold your money as well so they just yank it before you even have the chance to receive your OWN money.

Funt fact LTT: I still have one of those Zalman Reserator XT in Silver, in mint condition minus the pump :P I also kept the ORIGINAL coolant that came with the device when it was new, looking at the bottles it kinda looks fine too!
That additive in bundle with the zalman was the reason of most of its problems actually. It tended to cristallize and block the waterblock cooling paths, the flow sensor and cause erosion. The best way to fix it was to use not conductive fluids. just for your info. (I have the same reserator in my cabinet lol)
@@alessandrosala2340 Hard to say it was the coolant that truly caused those issues as the included zalman pvc tubing also leached an insane amount of plasticizer, I never used the included coolant and my system still got clogged with this grey putty which surely would have been dyed blue if I used the zalman coolant.
You gotta give credit to Zalman man. They come up since forever with this insane ideas that maybe 10 people will maybe buy in the whole world and they go "yep good enough, let's do this!". I remember back in 2010 thinking oh my god this cooler is so "cool" I should buy it. It had this sofisticated weird fan controls that you could set to maximum, medium and low, and also control for yourself, which, I think it's cool by today standards. Wow ain't seen a Reserator in a long time. You should track down one of those thermaltake tunic? tower thingies. There was a passive one as well either them or Zalman. Always wanted one!
I do enjoy watching you guys taking junk and making it work. Seriously not everyone can afford new stuff so it’s cool to watch you guys (in a playful way) make items some would toss out and make them work (sorta) again.
I still have my reserator V1 but I need to change the pump (it is a replacement pump with more flow etc.) As it have said thank you for this life after more then ~10 years of service 24/7. Only reason it already has a replacement pump that need replacement is that the pressure height and flow rate was not enough.
Hmm.. mine worked 24/7 up to 2018.. then the pump failed..bought a few pumps..but the where to loud..not used it since..I did enjoy the v1 silence for many years
@@mitchell6you my would probably live as long as yours, but I build the cooling system to big for original pump flow rate and pressure height to be enough with original pump. I could try to find out what replacement I have bought if you want as it fit inside the reserator and is enough even when you have build the water cooling to be able to handle ridiculously amount of heat with the reserator and a 1080 radiator. Yes they exists but seems not possible to buy new any more.
For oxidized copper, that green stuff, I recommend hot water with citric acid. Disappears in seconds. But also remember, this completely uncovers the copper and degreases it. You must immediately wash it in clean water and, preferably, apply some grease on it.
Love Linus, Alex, a box of junk, and computer components worth exponentially more than all the junk combined. It's basically an unofficial series, it should be an official one lol.
This video made me think that it'd be really cool if you did another video for "turbo nerds" like myself but about how radiators work. You could saw one in half and show different designs over time that way maybe?
This went a whole different direction than I expected based on the title. Well done! That Reserator was pretty cool. Almost makes me think it is the predecessor to my swiftech h320, which is a reservoir radiator pump combo. If it wasn't for that thing I probably wouldn't have even tried water cooling.
The challenge with this is the premade AIOs are getting plenty good, albeit they might not come with the best paste or fans out of the box. On a 14900K I've found both the EK Nucleus and Lian Li Galahad II Performance (also running likely the same EK water block) were capable of fully handling 325W no problem and had enough heat pulling power to also not thermal throttle at the first hit either. I did run Prolima PK-3 paste and Phantek T30 fans though. Still, zero thermal throttling at all and only around 45dB of fan needed at full load to hold at 325W. Off the shelf AIOs are pretty darn good, well EK based ones at least. I tried some others, ones HIGHLY recommended, and they did not do as well. Paste or fan didn't matter. Many other water blocks on existing AIOs don't seem to have enough thermal overhead to get well above 200W to 250W, let alone heading north of 300W. But EK, they currently have a block that takes a 325W hit at stride as long as the pump is already cruising. I don't know if there's much need for water cooling GPUs yet. So far, just the fan setups on them do quite well. Their wattage (outside of heavy overclocking) just isn't a big deal yet.
I have decade+ aged Koolance QDC fittings in 2 systems of mine and they still work great when taken care of... Seeing the ones in this video makes me wonder what kind of neglect those were exposed to.
Those dishwasher tablet things dissolve galvanic corrosion quite well. Try adding a few to your ultrasonic cleaner's water. The results are magical but don't leave it too long or you'll dissolve your aluminum parts. 😂

Being able to angle grind old rusty bolts is a godsend. The problem starts when you can’t get the grinder in to cut the bolt
Found the same fittings on my Zalman case, upgraded the AMD tubes for 14700 F, runs great.
small ventilation is enough, way faster now.
You managed to turn a box of janky hardware into a functioning cooling system. You've shown that even with setbacks, it can result in success.
LOVED this one, more fun build shenanigans and fringe products!
A tier LTT content!!! Banter, Tomfollery and a great mix of fancy engineering and bodgery!!
Wow ain't seen a Reserator in a long time. You should track down one of those thermaltake tunic? tower thingies. There was a passive one as well either them or Zalman. Always wanted one!
Imagine if they used their thermal cameras and tried some of those, like the awesome tower one from zalman or the huge cooler ball. I'd watch it!
I do enjoy watching you guys taking junk and making it work. Seriously not everyone can afford new stuff so it’s cool to watch you guys (in a playful way) make items some would toss out and make them work (sorta) again.
Today I learned how to spell segue - (in music and film) move without interruption from one piece of music or scene to another.
This is peak life.
“That’s supposed to be an inlet” 😂😂😂
Jenky watercooling with Alex is my most favorite part of this channel!! Please keep it up, I love it
I still have my reserator V1 but I need to change the pump (it is a replacement pump with more flow etc.) As it have said thank you for this life after more then ~10 years of service 24/7.
You must immediately wash it in clean water and, preferably, apply some grease on it.
great video... love to see how much time and energy went into making this video as good as it was. Quality and still almost daily.... keep it up LMG
This is the most I've been entertained by a ltt in awhile. Alex + junk = hilarious
Love Linus, Alex, a box of junk, and computer components worth exponentially more than all the junk combined. It's basically an unofficial series, it should be an official one lol.
You can put stuff in a glass jar and into an ultrasonic cleaner. No need to replace all the water every time. And helps keeping the cleaner clean.
oh man I reallly loved this kind of video. Wish you would do more of these
liked how your "old reference" was from a fellow Canadian!
This video made me think that it'd be really cool if you did another video for "turbo nerds" like myself but about how radiators work. You could saw one in half and show different designs over time that way maybe?
The gear never gets old… just the max cooling getting reached quicker, and if you never reach tjmax further OC is required.
This went a whole different direction than I expected based on the title. Well done! That Reserator was pretty cool. Almost makes me think it is the predecessor to my swiftech h320, which is a reservoir radiator pump combo. If it wasn't for that thing I probably wouldn't have even tried water cooling.
Alex's discomfort is highly entertaining. lol
That external cooler thing is actually pretty cool...pun intended.
Alex and Linus projects are the best projects. Absolute madness.
Those dishwasher tablet things dissolve galvanic corrosion quite well. Try adding a few to your ultrasonic cleaner's water. The results are magical but don't leave it too long or you'll dissolve your aluminum parts. 😂
I probably missed it but I really like the look of the silver/ aluminum LTT screwdriver
When was the last time we saw a video of Linus and Alex making something not "Janky"? That word and these two go together! LOL
Nice seeing one of these old school video's again
