And I have 3 questions. I was probably thinking you and me and your wife can go to malls for your channel and my channel and also go to Abandoned places
It was a pretty clean, fun store. We miss it! I would love to turn it into a school of music… but unless I win the lottery, I don’t know how I would do it. Lol
Wallie for your collection you need a training video that was a K Mart employee training video. Lol but really you need something like that to go with you museum Kmart collection. Thanks for sharing this video.
The ending always get me so sad. I miss Kmart it was a good place to shop at. I remember getting alot of my school clothes there. In Massachusetts I know of several abandoned kmarts mainly in billerica and Nashua new Hampshire. I hope someday you could make it this way ! Thank you for the video 😊
I used to work for Kmart in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, 1985 until 1996 when Kmart Closed Permanently. The Kmart Store where I worked at, is a Planet Fitness Gym in the main Kmart Store. In the Kmart Garden Shop is a Subway Submarine Sandwich Shop. There was a Supermarket attached to the Kmart Store. It was a Kroger, and the Kroger Closed Permanently before Kmart closed permanently. The Kroger, is now a Dollar Tree 🌳. I miss 😢Kmart.
This makes me laugh so hard that it’s in the 30s there. When Coastal Mississippi is 50 degrees, it feels colder than Michigan at 30 degrees because of the humidity
Standard Kmart lease was for 20 years with 5 year renewals up to 100 years. Fartfurt closed the stores as the leases ran out, so most closed on a multiple of 5 year anniversary (25 yrs, 30 yrs, 35 yrs)
You’re a doorbell ringer, too? I have been my whole life. Not sure why, but any & every time I see a bell, I have to press it. I always liked the KMart in New Castle. There was just something about it that made it comfortable & welcoming. Good find, good find!
This one opened on November 17, 1999 as the first for a new design for Kmart stores (known as a Series 42 Kmart), the design was used throughout 2000 and 2001. coincidentally, this was also the last Series 42, it closed in December 2019.
There was a Series 42 store in Phoenixville, PA (about halfway between Philadelphia and Reading) which opened in 2001 and was scheduled to close in 2003 due to the original Kmart bankruptcy, but suddenly Kmart changed their mind (even though STORE CLOSING signs had been put up already!) and kept the store open! Of course it EVENTUALLY closed anyway, but that was 15 years later! The store had a "castle" exterior design which made it look much nicer than this Clio store!
@@trentpettit6336 I heard about that one. A good looking store IMO. I wonder why they wanted to close it so early, the market was good enough for them to want to open there in the first place, right?
@@retailforever Well, the location seemed perfect at first (Phoenixville had an AMES store which was an old JAMESWAY and had been the Kmart store's only competition) but then in 2002, both a TARGET (in the small town called OAKS) and a WALMART (in Norristown) opened nearby. The Target had a LOWE'S next door, and the Walmart had a HOME DEPOT next door, which both probably helped the Target and Walmart stores hurt the Kmart. There was a Sears Hardware next to the Kmart, but of course it was much smaller than their two nearby competitors!
@@retailforever Surprisingly though, the Walmart was NOT a Supercenter when it first opened in 2002 (even though the property was big enough for it to have been), but it was expanded into a Supercenter around 2008.
There is an identical Kmart to this one located in Pleasant Hills, PA right outside of the Century III mall complex. This was the last major Kmart store design to be rolled out in the late 90’s/early 2000’s before their bankruptcy when all the new stores stopped. These stores all have the red tile on the main entrance and the square metal grate design over the top of the portico entrance. Some have a rounded portico like here in Clio and others have a gabled portico like in Cranston, RI. Other examples of this design existed in Huntington, NY, Passaic, NJ, Lawnside, NJ.
This location did not have a Little Caesars. It had a Kcafe. This was the Kmart we went to when the Beecher Kmart closed in 99. So many memories of shopping here while growing up. The sign from the freeway used to say Farmer Jack where the urgent care sign was. Farmer Jack didn't last too much longer at that location when it opened... I want to say 3 years maybe.
There are 12 Kmart's left now... Six are in the US Mainland and the other Six are in US Territories: Guam has 1, Puerto Rico has 1, and the Virgin Islands has 4! Though what's interesting is that both the Biggest Sears left (3 floors!) and the Biggest Kmart left (2 floors!) are both located in the Plaza Las Americas Mall Complex in Puerto Rico!
I think this is across the street from the “Restaurant and Drive-Thru Inside” gas station. It had that on its sign. I always wanted to drive thru the inside. This used to have a Farmerjacks next door.
Kmart was my first job from 2009-2013. It closed in 2014. I miss it a lot even though the pay and hours were terrible. I worked with a lot of great people and have many good memories from working there.
Thanks for sharing this video Wallie my thanksgiving was a good one it sad that all kmart is gone in michigan you should check out port huron michigan one
I was passing through Caro yesterday, so I stopped here to get a few photos. Would you know it, all the signs are still up nearly five years after the store closed. My local Kmart, up the road nearly an hour, closed at almost the same time and their signs are long gone.
Yep, it’s a long I in Clio. We also have Milan with a long I and Charlotte with stress on the second syllable and more of a short O than the city in North Carolina.
If your ever back up there I can say visit Saginaw there is two Kmarts one turned into one of those storage unit places not sure what the other one is and there was a 3rd but that has been torn down for years now
We used to have a Kmart here in Liverpool New York. I remember that store was the always busy no matter what time of year it was. That store also had a pay phone in the vestibule, and I had to use it one day because I forgot what my grandma sent me there to get. Good memories thank you for the flash back. It was a pleasure meeting you in Gallitzin, I hope to see you on the NS main again.
Definitely a very unique and with the outside signs still up. I always have to ring a doorbell or buzzer as well expecting someone ro come out lol. Happy New Year Wallie cheers.
We have loads of Kmart stores in Australia. They're owned by an Australian company, but they must be paying royalties to the U.S. company to use their name and logos. I don't recall us ever having anything other than regular Kmarts. Kmart in the '80s to mid '90s were great. They had a proper hardware section and even a computer section. They used to sell great products. These days, they're not much different to a fancy looking discount store, with most of their products being cheaply made, low quality quality stuff from China.
There’s an abandoned Kmart store on Dixie highway in Waterford Michigan. Opened in 1976 closed in February 2020. It used to be a Grants department store, and is currently vacant.
Dixie Highway? Are you familiar with the tragic history of the famous DIXIE SQUARE MALL which was on Dixie Highway (that's why the mall had "Dixie" in its name even though it wasn't in a Southern state) in Harvey, Illinois near Chicago?
Visited here a few years ago, en route to Frankenmuth. Still hard to believe all the MI locations are gone. You are right, there are so many of them! If you head up to Bronner's again, you can probably stop by the Flint area locations, some have been closed since the 90s. Flint has so much other abandoned and crazy stuff though, that alone could be a whole trip.
Did you know about the shopping center in Dearborn (near Detroit) which was built in the early 90's (right before Kmart got rid of all the non-department store chains that they had owned!) which had multiple stores owned by Kmart at the time (Super Kmart Center, PACE Membership Warehouse, Builders Square, Borders Books, Sports Authority, and OfficeMax) as well as a Service Merchandise store, but all the buildings had the same fancy design? Sadly, the old Super Kmart there is a WALMART store today!
We used to have a K-Mart within a few miles from where we lived when I was a kid. I have a lot of good memories of it as a kid playing the original TMNT arcade game as well as number of arcade games there in their arcade while my parents shopped as well as browse the toy aisles for TMNT, Transformers, G.I.Joe, and other late 80s/early 90s toylines. It closed down sometime in the early 2000s and was turned into a Lifetime Fitness. The funny thing is, part of the outside is still very much that vintage K-Mart.
Funny story about the prison yard at the Lexington, SC store which is now closed. Our District managers son wanted a part time job while a junior in high school. He was working at this particular store and was out in the fenced area when they started closing the store and they locked him out there. He was out there over an hour before he flagged a car passing by down. Keep in mind this was back in 1996 before cell phones became super huge. Everyone in the district got a huge laugh out of it to.
Hi wallieb26 ❤
I love it you checked the Abandoned kmart in clio Michigan
I did to
And I have 3 questions.
I was probably thinking you and me and your wife can go to malls for your channel and my channel and also go to Abandoned places
Kmart Place Was Gone for Long Time.
Last time I was at a Kmart was back in 2007 in Claremont, NH. Looking back of the Kmart videos, I really miss being inside a Kmart
I miss 😢 big Kmart in Fall River
That’s a nice abounded big Kmart I like the yellow and white on the walls in the inside of the store
Yes I miss Kmart
Enjoyed it too
Kmart was my childhood late 1990s and early 2000s kids the final generation to know the amazing Kmart
Love the pictures at the end. Keep up the good work!
The blue light special was so cool
Happy new year 🎉💓
It was a pretty clean, fun store. We miss it! I would love to turn it into a school of music… but unless I win the lottery, I don’t know how I would do it. Lol
I was here the last day and the days after. It was a very nice store.
Good Video 😀
Great video! Sad to see another one gone.
Love the Hills hat. Great video as always happy New years guys. Thanks for sharing.
ty wally kayla for this video i miss the bigmart

Hi Wallie, great video! This Kmart opened on 11/17/1999 and was their newest and last store prototype.
So this store was only open for 20 years

I believe this store was a relocation from Beecher.

Was that Cranston (Rhode Island) store a former BRADLEES store? Or a former CALDOR store?
This store resembles a Target in my opinion

Clee-oh is how it’s pronounced… Michigan represent…
Thanks for letting me know. I just had a feeling I'd say it wrong. Haha
I miss are big kmart in iron mountain michigan
And it closed in 2015
There are 12 Kmart's left now... Six are in the US Mainland and the other Six are in US Territories: Guam has 1, Puerto Rico has 1, and the Virgin Islands has 4! Wow awesome video
My childhood K-Marts were near Wayne Hills Mall (RIP 🥺) in Wayne, NJ and West View Park Shopping Center in Pittsburgh, PA. ❤
I think this is across the street from the “Restaurant and Drive-Thru Inside” gas station. It had that on its sign. I always wanted to drive thru the inside. This used to have a Farmerjacks next door.
Happy New Years.
Man I really miss Kmart so much.
I miss shopping at my Big Kmart here in Mission TX
Kmart was my first job from 2009-2013. It closed in 2014. I miss it a lot even though the pay and hours were terrible. I worked with a lot of great people and have many good memories from working there.
This is about the size of the Big Kmart turned Rural King back home. I'm actually not surprised Rural King is snatching up Kmart locations.
If you remember sagebrush down in mt airy NC it's rented out as something else
Thanks for sharing this video Wallie my thanksgiving was a good one it sad that all kmart is gone in michigan you should check out port huron michigan one
Cambridge Ohio had one just like this .
I was passing through Caro yesterday, so I stopped here to get a few photos. Would you know it, all the signs are still up nearly five years after the store closed. My local Kmart, up the road nearly an hour, closed at almost the same time and their signs are long gone.
Awesome video.
Yep, it’s a long I in Clio. We also have Milan with a long I and Charlotte with stress on the second syllable and more of a short O than the city in North Carolina.
Sad that there are more closed Kmart's with signs up as there are actually open Kmart's.
If your ever back up there I can say visit Saginaw there is two Kmarts one turned into one of those storage unit places not sure what the other one is and there was a 3rd but that has been torn down for years now
Another Kmart video added to the stash! Looks like a chillier day. Can't wait to see what else you upload!
And yes. This is me.
@Sage Perkins You'd be amazed how many fake accs out there have been made to look like various retail channels in bad faith.
You all are the age of Kmart, I grew up with Kresge, Ayr Way and CSC when growing up
There is an abandoned Kmart in Marshall Michigan just across the street from the abandoned Burger King you did.
Is that the one that recently just closed?
Kmart, many memories back to childhood when they had the yummy Icee drinks! ( cherry or cola) LOL thanks guys! Love the photos at the end!👍😃
Check out the Michigan Kmart
Awesome Wallie
Our K-mart store in Corunna, Michigan opened in 1974. One of my favorite places to shop.
Yeah I had to work Thanksgiving which was also my birthday but not gonna complain to much. And I did all my Black Friday shopping online
Yep honestly I miss shopping at my store it's almost been 2 years since mine closed in 2020
Very interesting Kmart. Love the facade.
There once was a Kmart near me which had the same facade as this one, but with CASTLE STEEPLES on the sides of the facade!

Happy New Year Wallie and Kayla thank you for the KMART 📹, Delores Jordan

It was probably a super k that got scaled back to a big kmart
There’s a Kmart in north flint that’s been closed since 1997
It still amazing how big Kmart was !
Heck yes. My mom and aunt used to work at a couple. I'm only 16 but I miss k-mart
I could easily see Target moving into the building with minimal renovations. This Kmart looks to have been one of the nicer stores.
I shopped at the K-Mart in Cambridge, and Steubenville and both became Rural Kings.
I actually still have a Kmart by me that is still open and it’s one of the two only open currently in New Jersey
My local K-Mart in Torrington CT is now an Ocean State Job Lot Store.

Looks like the Kmart we had in West Seneca NY.
This opened in 1999.
How many Kmart’s are left in the United States?

Happy new years everyone and let's hope year of 2022 will be better year then year of 2021:)
This looks like the old one by my house
