I've never cared all that much for sports but freshman year of highschool has finally given me a reason to enjoy them (I play tenor drums in our pep band) its probably one of my favorite kinds of music to play ever, your videos are always incredible and its always cool to see different pep/marching band arrangements.
Seeing you inspired me to take up drums a few months ago. And I'm determined to put in the effort, so that one day I'll be at the amazing standard you are! Keep the videos coming, you're an inspiration :D

What you're hearing is the difference between him following a recording and the band following him. As a trumpet player, I can't stand a drummer that follows the band.
Yeah I play in a band as a clarinet player. My band's drummer(s) are terrible so drums are very crucial to the band. You know why they say, a band is as good as their weakest players.
That is the difference between messing around at home and playing for a band director. The director will usually reign in some of the gratuitous playing. It is also more exciting to play live for a crowd.
