SinCity Sinner Duggan was over because he laid on the patriotism gimmick really thick. In the 80's - early 90's Cold War climate, patriotism for 'Murica was the easiest way to get over. Cunt Hogan used it to get huge face heat too. Then it started getting tired when Hogan left and Lex Luger was given the stars-and-stripes gimmick. Then there was The Patriot, whom people cared so little about that he barely got a push even during Bret Hart's pro-Canada/anti-America heel turn. And by the time Kurt Angle arrived in wrestling, being an unabashed patriot was guaranteed heel heat because it was just overused by then.
Has there ever been a reason given as to why the Bret Hart vs. Ric Flair title change never aired on TV? I know it made it into one of those "Best-of" video's, but why the hell wasn't it put on TV? I was in that crowd, seated with my family 2 rows above the hard camera, and that place went MENTAL when Bret won, no need to feed in crowd noise in post-production. No one in the crowd expected a title change. Title changes usually only happened in more famous cities, like LA, New York, Toronto, etc. But Saskatoon? The sleepy city of 150,000 people at the time with no claims to fame? No, a title change would never happen there.... HOLY SHIT BRET WON THE TITLE!!
CTWraith as a lifelong die hard Hitman fanatic who lives nowhere near Canada, I was over the moon when he won, and would have loved to have seen it on tv. i have the match on 3 DVD sets now, but then.....kids today don't know how good they have it with the Network and UA-cam!!! How awesome that you were THERE!!! Canadians have always been steadfastly pro-Bret, so I can imagine how crazy the crowd went!!
CTWraith I think Bret bled during the match. Either that or Flair didn't want it aired. Titles would often change a lot on house shows. I remember seeing sting beat hogan in a cage in a vegas house show once and hogan had the title on nitro.
Kind of saw the same thing when i went to see; Sting Vs Big Van Vader in Wembley Arena on March 12th 1993. Nobody was expecting a title change for real, but we got one. It was one of those things you'll never forget. the crowd where you sitting that night etc. i can relate man, trust me i do! At least the Hart Vs Flair match was recorded at a house show. The Sting Vs Vader match wasn't except for a few fan recorded bits on camcorder in the early 90's which isn't good at all but have made their way to youtube finally or so?... ua-cam.com/video/2Q4IAUoHNvs/v-deo.html
CTWraith I had always assumed it was a contract thing. I didn't see Flair in WWF very much at all afterwards, so I had just assumed he dropped the belt to Bret right before his contract expired and he went back to WCW. But it had to be done relatively quickly and to someone they felt had enough heat for a title run and dropping it to Canadian face Bret at a Canadian house show would be the best option and guarantee a massive pop.
there are lots of things going around why it never aired. 1. flair had been potatoed by warrior and had a severe inner ear injury and couldn't work very much. 2. flair was already on his way out to go back to wcw and vince wanted to limit his exposure on wwf tv as the world champion 3. vince had serious buyer's remorse over taking in flair and considered him and his run a massive failure. stories of him blowing up at him and savage for stinking up a match were pretty common, and he blamed flair not savage. i believe 3. i love flair, but his run in the wwf wasn't what vince had hoped it would have been. not entirely sure what his expectations were...

@@totallyrandomhorror Was he ever a character in the NES/SNES era of WWF games? I'd imagine that he'd eventually appear on later console generations because they were more capable of showcasing a bigger roster. Was he on the SNES Royal Rumble game? I think it might've had the biggest selection of wrestlers of all the 16-bit games.
This brings back such fond memories. Remember watching the PPV round my next door neighbours and there were a bunch of us. The atmosphere really grabbed me. And that final match was such a big deal. Me and one other guy in the room were the only ones cheering for Bret. Remember being gutted when Bret lost the belt being such a Bret mark!
Fun Fact: Before he came into WWF Nailz tried out for a spot in WCW and they basically told him that they'd "get back to him but they didn't think they'd need him. According to Jim Cornette buscholtz called ric flair (who was WCW head booker at the time) up a couple of weeks later during a booking meeting and asked if they wanted him, when flair replied "no" buscholtz blew his stack and started screaming about how he "needed a job" and they insisted that they should "just fire someone to give me a spot because I need a job".
Personally I'd love to see more overseas PPVs, it kinda defeats the logic when something known as WORLD Wrestling Federation/Entertainment only has PPVs in the US and Canada. imagine Wrestlemania being held in either the Olympic Stadium in London or in the Tokyo Dome.
The only realistic place outside of the us and canada that I could see WWE holding a mania is Estadio Azteca in Mexico City because the time difference isn't that great and its close enough to the US that it wouldn't be too expensive to ship all their shit there and they could easily jam more than 100.000 people into the venue.
Hammerhead547 you don't need the top PPVs outside the US. Keep mania there, but things like this summerslam were massive in the UK. It might be too late to emulate it now to be honest
Warrior and Macho here was a great match, great storyline, completely erased from both guys history and DVDs. I was at the Warrior/Macho vs Nasty Boys match for the Summerslam Spectacular, Nashville Tennessee August 1992 ! Their title match in England was one of the longest World title matches in WWF history and its always been a memorable highlight for me - I loved this whole event when I was 9 ! Taped it off TV and watched it about 20 times that year
Vince was better when he was with Ventura. Vince's performance was supposed to be a parody of the corporate shill announcer. Vince was anything but a typical American yes man.
I don't mind off camera title changes once in awhile. It makes it feel more 'real' and does make you feel like you might win the lottery and see something exclusive if you see a house show
I went to summerslam 92 when I was 9 with my dad and brother. Still look back on it and it was awesome. U will never have a 80k capacity wrestling event in the UK again. Old school.
WWE just announced that they're doing a PPV in the Principality Stadium in Cardiff Wales on September 3rd. It can hold up to 78,000 people for boxing events
So what? D'Lo Brown was billed coming from everywhere in Europe when he was the WWF European Champion. Its exaggerated kayfabe y'know. their weight and place of origin isn't always precise. And the Bulldog was really from Wigan in Wales anyways lol.
The references in these vids is exactly my childhood in England; Red Dwarf, Blackadder, Visionaries, Big Break. Very funny rediscovering all the shite I’d sort of forgotten. Love your work.
Whoever it was that posed the question about Steve Lombardi being in the WWE Hall of Fame around 1:16:00 , I totally agree, guys like him were the backbone of early Raws.
🗣 I remember living in *Neasden* 15 mins from Wembley in *1992* ! We could hear *Wembley’s* *PA* System & *Vinces* commentating skills fill the air on that special day!🔥🔥🔥
The whole arena set up for this looks really awesome. I have always thought that open air Pay Per Views on the daytime were a bad idea because they couldn't get the atmosphere correct in the sunlight, especially for wrestler entrances because all the lights and pyro looks 1,000 times better in a closed arena where they can cut the lights and make it pitch black, then they can put on kickass light and pyro displays throughout the show, but this whole set up looked really fucking good. It might just be because Wembley stadium is one of the most iconic and beautiful buildings in the world, but the WWF went above and beyond to create an atmosphere worthy for Wembley stadium. The hard cam shots look really crisp with the blue summerslam aprons and the fucking massive sea of people they are able to get in the shots. It looks amazing seeing the wrestlers running and bumping around the ring with the sea of people on their feet going crazy, especially because the crowd seems to go on forever. During the typical shows in an enclosed arena the camera inevitably picks up the upper deck and sometimes even the rafters of a place, making it feel almost claustrophobic, but here even the wide shots can't even pick up the top rows of people, so what we are left with are some amazing shots of row after row of thousands of rabid fans. The first time I noticed and it really caught my eye was during L.O.D. Vs. Dibiase and I.R.S. match. After Animal got tagged in he started running off the ropes and then ducked both Dibiase and IRS and then caught them with a double clothesline which was just fucking beautiful with the camera angle and all the fans on their feet going crazy. Even non wrestling fans have to admire the pageantry set up for this show, and it looked like it would have been an absolute fucking blast to be there. Even the most cynical and miserable person imaginable would have been on their feet and caught up in the moment with thousands and thousands of other people on their feet and blowing the invisible roof off of Wembley. I am actually jealous, lol. Yes I said I was jealous of people at a show decades ago, but so what, it looked like it would have been one of the greatest days of a lot of people's lives, lol. I love the OSW channel, it deserves to have millions of subs and is definitely one of the best wrestling UA-cam channels. Keep up the good work lads, you have a big fan and supporter her in Las Vegas.
41:08 television back then was essentially a commercial for the house shows, which were the big source of income. SNME were like today’s B-PPVs. Secondary title changes were used to boost attendance and promote the notion that anything could happen at house shows. Bret won the WWF title at a house show later in ‘92
I finally hear someone else say that they can't stand the Bushwackers (Shitwackers). I am 38 years old and have been watching wrestling since the mid 80's , and I have always hated the Bushwackers, I never understood why they got such a big pop whenever they came out.
The PPV that made my mum's fella (at the time) to get Sky. So this kick started my love of football and meant that I didn't have to keep re-watching the WWF VHS' I had over and over.

I'm going to guess that the reason Diana looks the way she does is because she's fully aware that Davey has been smoking crack for the last week and has no idea what's going on in this match.
I don’t know the timeline in this thing, but I remember some lines, in another show, about giving the iron claw is more powerful when you hold your own wrist 37:35 Rick is giving OP chest compressions lol
Lol, did anyone else notice that Alfred Hayes is missing big parts of his eyebrows? Look close and you’ll clearly see it. Especially when he’s in the bit at Warriors dressing room door. It looks like he fell asleep on the plane ride over there somewhere by Mr.Perfect.
Nailz was not going anywhere lol. He couldn't wrestle and had one move...Choke hold. He was just another guy who had a look that Vince tried to turn into a wrestler. He looks tall and scary but you can't just put somebody in a ring and work around it if they don't even understand the basics of wrestling.
It's actually mind-boggling how someone can call themself a wrestling fan and not care about psychology. It's like being a fan of film and not caring about filmmaking

Back when the Intercontinental Championship meant something. As much as I liked the Attitude Era one of the bad aspects of it was devaluing of the IC belt with very frequent, meaningless title changes & scrubs like Road Dogg & Val Venis winning it. Not to mention Chyna winning it which was just terrible. It got better after Russo left in 1999. Then you had guys like Y2J, Angle, and Benoit bringing some respect back to the strap but it was never like this Bret-Bulldog match level.
This event was HUGE in Canada. We were all ready for Bret to be the main man in wrestling. It seemed so natural. Fun fact: When talking about who is the best ever, here are two stats to consider. 1. Bret has the luxury of waffling between Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels as his greatest opponent ever - in particular at Wrestlemania. No other wrestler can claim those two as their best / top 2 WM opponents. That's a pretty nice top two! Only Bret can say that. Which makes him the best. 2. Bret Hart is the only wrestler in the 1990s to hold the WWF title in 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997. Which makes him the best. #Canadianfanboy

And by the time Kurt Angle arrived in wrestling, being an unabashed patriot was guaranteed heel heat because it was just overused by then.
SinCity Sinner yeah Hacksaw really stank. And the fact that he just REFUSED to lose clean really just is the icing on the cake.
Switched from an lsv cube draft to you guys. Been going through a lot of shit lately, just know that in some ways you guys are helping save me right now and you always have in the past. I love you guys and thanks for being something that can help people get through tough times. Cheers! Got a stable to think about now...
Hang in there bud. Wait out the hard times and you’ll live to see more good times in the future… even if it may not feel like it at the present moment.
State of Davey Boy cutting that GamesMaster promo...
Is there any worse verbal transition than the phrase "I've said my piece"? He might as well have said "Shit, I reached the end of the script."
And his theme song, I can see why they didn't play it instantly.
@@glennwelsh9784 omg yes. "I've said my piece, GamesMaster. Even though you're not actually here in the room with me, I'm speaking conversationally so that it's easier for a young audience to engage with. You can now turn off these cameras, send the material we recorded today to your production department, and wait for them to finish editing it and cutting it into the episode that you have decided that this segment will be a part of."
State of Davey cutting ANY promo, if I’m honest.
Fun Fact:
Before he came into WWF Nailz tried out for a spot in WCW and they basically told him that they'd "get back to him but they didn't think they'd need him.
@@SomeDumbKid1
Luckily for the rest of us he never rose to the lofty heights he didn't deserve to reach.
NJPW will not allow WWE to do a major event at the Tokyo Dome because that is where they hold thier big event Wrestle Kingdom
The Olympic Stadium is called The London Stadium. And it’s bloody dreadful
@Mike Keller monkey's paw of a wish lol
These never get old. Gives me such a great feeling connecting my childhood.
NAILZ VS VIRGIL the match that saved the WWF. NAILZ the biased witness for the prosecution Vs Vince McMahon
McMahon fingered his bum. You know it, I know it, and Vince knows it.
Taped it off TV and watched it about 20 times that year
i loved when Vince called matches! Late 80's to mid 90's was my favorite time in wrestling. I was born in '81, so that may explain it... lol
Yeah everyone's favorite time was when they were 11 :)
Vince was better when he was with Ventura. Vince's performance was supposed to be a parody of the corporate shill announcer. Vince was anything but a typical American yes man.
That's UNBELIEVABLE
OOC’s Vince impression on commentary. Can’t stop rewinding.
1:08:03
@@ducc764 Even better than they add a splicey of OOC doing his impression whilst Vince commentates, makes it all the more humorous
I don't mind off camera title changes once in awhile. It makes it feel more 'real' and does make you feel like you might win the lottery and see something exclusive if you see a house show
Its definitely important to make sure fans show up to house shows...
After watching the entire New Gen arc, I can see that the Bruce Hart love started earlier than I thought at 1:23:25
How is this not bigger?? You guys are hilarious! Looking forward to more!
Shawn / Model / Sherri...arses all around!!
"They all have lovely bottoms!"
when the commentary team used to dress up in tuxes for pay per views, it felt special
For those wondering The Genius name checked England winning the 1966 World Cup in Wembley, most be a sore subject for Jay lol
Thanks, I was wondering exactly that :)
July 30th 1966 England wins the world cup and south London gangster Charlie Richardson was arrested
It was great to see a pay per view without Hogan in it! Bret is just a great wrestler period.
The British Bulldog has been billed as coming from London, Bolton, Manchester and now Leeds. SMH.
So what? D'Lo Brown was billed coming from everywhere in Europe when he was the WWF European Champion. Its exaggerated kayfabe y'know. their weight and place of origin isn't always precise. And the Bulldog was really from Wigan in Wales anyways lol.
What, Wigan is in Manchester, 3 hours from Wales.
golbourne to be exact, i have friends who hung out with him. i only moved here after he died so that sucks.
HHKMag Leeds were the reigning football/soccer champions at that time, so I assume it was pandering.
Because it meant nothing to the Yanks. Thankfully now things are better.
The references in these vids is exactly my childhood in England; Red Dwarf, Blackadder, Visionaries, Big Break. Very funny rediscovering all the shite I’d sort of forgotten. Love your work.
I can't believe Tito got a dark match after his amazing match with Nature Boy at the summer slam spectacular .
Whoever it was that posed the question about Steve Lombardi being in the WWE Hall of Fame around 1:16:00 , I totally agree, guys like him were the backbone of early Raws.
🗣 I remember living in *Neasden* 15 mins from Wembley in *1992* !
We could hear *Wembley’s* *PA* System & *Vinces* commentating skills fill the air on that special day!🔥🔥🔥
I remember being disappointed in the followup to Martel/Michaels because I figured a babyface turn for Martel was coming...which it wasn't.
The build up to Michaels Vs Martel was quite put over about who was the best looking, I remember friends mums commenting on this.
Amazing Hawk was able to drive that motorcycle straight down the ramp!
Lol "can I go?"
My dad: "No."
"Can we order it?"
"No."
That pretty much exactly summed it up!
I was there
The whole arena set up for this looks really awesome.
In retrospect, Vince probably seggzually assaulted Nailz lmao
I love the Model character so much. Such a great heat magnet, in the best way.
The fact you guys spent that much time on the career of Crush is sad...the fact i watched it as intensely as I did is even worse.
41:08 television back then was essentially a commercial for the house shows, which were the big source of income. SNME were like today’s B-PPVs. Secondary title changes were used to boost attendance and promote the notion that anything could happen at house shows. Bret won the WWF title at a house show later in ‘92
Diesel won the world title against Bob in a house show too.
Man I still come back to these old vids to get good laughs... You Lads are great. Lol I can never get a tat but OSW is in my blood....
That shot of the ventriloquist doll at 14:49 looks just like Eric Bischoff during his Harley riding phase...
you guys are great. you know your shit and you add witty insight. listened to most of your shows up to 93 now. keep it up. :)
I thought The Bulldog's wife was beautiful, I had an instant crush on her then and I still think she looks hot.
Plane Jane is a founder of the Mile High Club
Yeah Diana has some kind of odd beauty to her
Vince proved you wrong on those “non-hall of famers”
The Andy Gray part is the funniest. And of course Doink Bruh, you making kids cry bruh. 😂😂😂😂
And I continue to come back here just for the complete and utter corpsing of the panel for Blacktop Bully. STILL.
OSW is EASILY the best wrestling review channel on UA-cam or anywhere! You guys rock, keep up the work!!!
Why because they have the same exact internet approved opinions that every other review show does?
Just in case anyone wants to compare OOC’s Vince impression with the real thing:
OOC- 1:07:55
Vince- 1:08:09
Absolutely spot on😂

“…went down almost posthumously” should have been in the running for quote of the year
Necrophilia reference? 🧟♂️
I finally hear someone else say that they can't stand the Bushwackers (Shitwackers). I am 38 years old and have been watching wrestling since the mid 80's , and I have always hated the Bushwackers, I never understood why they got such a big pop whenever they came out.
Dumb people like dumb things
I guess only the kiddies liked them. A bit of comedy.
I laughed so hard at his impression of Vince’s “OHHHHHH MMMMYYYY GOODDDDDD”
“Is Brooklyn brawler in the Hall of Fame?“
“No”
Brooklyn brawler would be inducted a year later as the second pick of the line up.
No Hogan and still got the largest live crowd in wrestling history? Ouch....
According to his book he was there though
You're correct, Piper can actually play the pipes. He's played with my uncle in the past
The PPV that made my mum's fella (at the time) to get Sky. So this kick started my love of football and meant that I didn't have to keep re-watching the WWF VHS' I had over and over.
I don’t understand how someone can dislike the Bret vs. Bulldog match.
The British Bulldog's gonna win...whether he wants to or not! We now have every episode online! Next up is ECW One Night Stand 2006. Updates & daily awesomeness at facebook.com/OSWreview
jamieson level gimmick? you guys seemed to enjoy him.
***** Easy, Chris. Don't want anyone to go and get murdered, now.
so wait, do you hate the genius or not?
You should do
WCW Last PPV
Or ECW Last PPV
Your next thing should be some NWA stuff form 1987 to 1989. Tons of osw review favorites.
Starrcade 1987: garvin
Starrcade 1988: lex luger/ flair
Great American bash 1989: lex luger, Shane Douglass
And tons others. Would he cool to see what hulkamania was up against at the time.
59:27 Well... Vince did prove you wrong
He must watch the show.
I'm going to guess that the reason Diana looks the way she does is because she's fully aware that Davey has been smoking crack for the last week and has no idea what's going on in this match.
Diana was really good looking
Request/recommendation: Do a series through WCW's 1992 PPVs. A blend of great matches and "bollocks" that's perfect for OSW reviewing.
Vince is like a full megaphone when he commentates. He goes from normal to OOOOOOWOWOWOWOO in 3 seconds flat.
I don’t know the timeline in this thing, but I remember some lines, in another show, about giving the iron claw is more powerful when you hold your own wrist
37:35 Rick is giving OP chest compressions lol
Lol, did anyone else notice that Alfred Hayes is missing big parts of his eyebrows? Look close and you’ll clearly see it. Especially when he’s in the bit at Warriors dressing room door. It looks like he fell asleep on the plane ride over there somewhere by Mr.Perfect.
It’s crazy how much demographics can be changed in such a short time. Wonder what this city will look like 30 years from now.
Can't get enough of these reviews! Too damn funny
This video came out 9 years ago and honestly the "take a bow" moment is beyond hilarious. Never fails to crack me up.
Diana is actually a very pretty woman.
Ach, take a boo lads, take a boo!
It's actually mind-boggling how someone can call themself a wrestling fan and not care about psychology. It's like being a fan of film and not caring about filmmaking
Telling people how they must enjoy wrestling is an unattractive trait.
@@OSW I mean to say 'it's mind-boggling to me' people can like what they want but that doesn't mean I'll understand it

I don’t know if someone has said this, but for some reason: The Bushwhackers remind of the Chuckle Brothers.
I’m not sure why though.
Poor Owen! He fucked up a throwaway line, and it's still being ridiculed 20 years later.
