I was 6 years old when Donald Campbell lost his life on Coniston in Bluebird, and there was only the brief grainy black and white footage to show what happened. So seeing this upto date video is like being transported back to 1967 and seeing bluebird as she was before that terrible day. She represents a wonderful era in British history, thanks to Donald Campbell.
There were two welders spent some time putting the boat back together as per original drawings from 1952.... the cockpit area was TIG welded into place using original material left over from the first build of K7...... the other welder was Bob Eden.
'Struts his fretful hour on the stage, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.' K7 can only have been original once. This is a 75% replica. And let's face it 'Sideshow Bill' Smith said he had no interest in the Campbell legend, he just wanted to 'hack off the tail fin and add it to my collection'.

Loved the shot at 2.42 on as she rises up on the sponsors - pure magic!
Thank you for bring back the good old history .
Saw her on Loch Fad. A fantastic experience. Dispelled some of the awful memories of her fatal crash.
We had a great view of it from Keen's Cottage - a beautiful holiday home.
Imagine seeing this in 1967 it must have looked like something from The Thunderbird's FAB!
Love to see it at Coniston one last time
Great video
Beautiful
Engine sounds the same as when it crashed
What’s the point
It'll be such a shame if it gets dismantled
